JONGSTE! – Die Mosselbaai-polisie het twee verdagtes van 19- en 26-jaar-oud gearresteer vir die moord op die 27-jarige Mosambiekse burger, Tomas Chunguane, wat op 30 Mei 2026 in KwaNonqaba aangerand en gesteek is.
Die arrstasies het in die vroeë oggendure van Dinsdag, 9 Junie 2026, plaasgevind. Die verdagtes sal na verwagting Donderdag, 11 Junie 2026, in die Mosselbaaise-landdroshof verskyn.
Intussen het ‘n 30-jarige verdagte, wat vermoedelik die leier is van die groep wat die geweld aangehits en daartoe gelei het dat ongeveer 50 plakkershutte uitgebrand is, Maandag, 8 Junie 2026, in die hof verskyn. Hy bly in aanhouding en sal weer op 22 Junie 2026 verskyn vir ‘n borgtogaansoek. Hy is aangekla van aanhitsing tot openbare geweld.
Ondersoeke na die moord op nog ‘n Mosambiekse burger, die 43-jarige Danilo Muianga, ook op 30 Mei 2026 in KwaNonqaba, duur voort. Nog arrestasies word binnekort verwag, het die polisie gesê.
MISDAADTONEEL: Mosselbaai, Suid-Kaap: Die groot koppe van die Suid-Afrikaanse Polisiediens (SAPD) het mense wat “agter sosiale mediaplatforms, anonieme boodskap-groepe of gemeenskapsvergaderings wegkruip om geweld aan te hits”, gewaarsku om hul doen en late te stop of daar sal gevolge wees.

Die waarnemende Nasionale Kommissaris van die Suid-Afrikaanse Polisiediens (SAPD), luitenant-generaal Puleng Dimpane, het Woensdag 3 Junie 2026 saam met die voorsitter van die Nasionale Gesamentlike Operasionele en Intelligensiestruktuur (NATJOINTS), luitenant-generaal Tebello Mosikili, ‘n mediakonferensie in George, Wes-Kaap gehou oor geweld in die land.
Die afvaardiging is vergesel deur die Provinsiale Kommissaris van die Wes-Kaap, luitenant-generaal Thembisile Patekile, en die waarnemende Adjunk-Nasionale Kommissaris vir Misdaadopsporing, luitenant-generaal Khosi Senthumule.
Die afvaardiging het intervensies uiteengesit om wet en orde te herstel en te handhaaf, sowel as maatreëls wat daarop gemik is om die veiligheid en sekuriteit van alle inwoners regoor die land te verseker
NATJOINTS het ‘n omvattende operasionele plan geaktiveer wat die SAPD, staatsveiligheidsagentskap, metropolisiedepartemente, verkeerswetstoepassing, binnelandse sake, korrektiewe dienste, die Suid-Afrikaanse Nasionale Weermag en ander regeringsdepartemente insluit.
Die operasionele plan het drie sleutel bene:
● Meer sigbaarheid en vinnige ontplooiingsvermoëns: Wetstoepassingsbeamptes is in brandpunte en strategiese gebiede regoor die land ontplooi. Bykomende openbare orde-polisiëringsbronne bly op bystand om vinnig te reageer op enige voorvalle wat openbare veiligheid en stabiliteit bedreig.
● Intelligensie-begeleide operasies: Intelligensiestrukture versamel en ontleed voortdurend inligting om bedreigings te identifiseer, beplande geweldsdade op te spoor en proaktiewe intervensies te ondersteun voordat die misdaad gepleeg word. Diegene wat glo hulle agter sosiale media platforms, anonieme boodskap-groepe of gemeenskap vergaderings kan wegkruip om geweld aan te hits, moet weet dat wetstoepassingsagentskappe aktief kriminele gedrag monitor en op sal tree as daar genoegsame bewyse is.
● Geteikende operasies teen misdaad: Gesamentlike operasies word uitgevoer om kriminaliteit aan te spreek wat onder die dekmantel van gemeenskapsveiligheid gepleeg word. Dit sluit in operasies om gesoekte verdagtes te arresteer, onwettige vuurwapens te konfiskeer, dwelmsmokkelary in die hok te slaan, afpersing netwerke te ontwrig en onwettige persone deur middel van wettige immigrasie prosesse te hanteer.

UPDATE! – Mossel Bay police have arrested two suspects aged 19 and 26-years for the murder of 27-year-old Mozambican national, Tomas Chunguane, who died after he was assaulted and stabbed on 30 May in KwaNonqaba.
The arrest took place in the early hours of Tuesday morning, 9 June 2026. The suspects are expected to appear in the Mossel Bay magistrate’s court on Thursday, 11 June 2026.
Meanwhile, a 30-year-old suspect believed to be the leader of the group that embarked on scenes of violence that led to approximately 50 shacks set alight appeared in court on Monday, 8 June on charges of incitement to commit public violence. He was remanded in custody and is expected to appear in court on 22 June 2026 for a bail application.
Investigations into the murder of another Mozambican national, 43-year-old Danilo Muianga, that also occurred on 30 May in KwaNonqaba are ongoing. More arrests are expected soon, said the police.
CRIME SCENE: Mossel Bay, Southern Cape: The top brass of the South African Police Service (SAPS) have warned those who believe they can “hide behind social media platforms, anonymous messaging groups or community meetings to incite violence”, they will face the full might of the law.

The Acting National Commissioner of the South African Police Service (SAPS), Lieutenant- General Puleng Dimpane, together with the National Joint Operational and Intelligence Structure (NATJOINTS) Chairperson, Lieutenant-General Tebello Mosikili, briefed the media in George, Western Cape on Wednesday, 3 June 2026 following violence aimed at foreigners over past weekend.
The delegation was joined by the Provincial Commissioner of the Western Cape, Lieutenant-General Thembisile Patekile, and the Acting Deputy National Commissioner for Crime Detection, Lieutenant-General Khosi Senthumule.
The delegattion outlined interventions to restore and maintain law and order, as well as measures aimed at ensuring the safety and security of all residents across the country.
NATJOINTS has activated a comprehensive operational plan that brings together the South African Police Service, State Security Agency, Metro Police Departments, Traffic Law Enforcement, Home Affairs, Correctional Services, the South African National Defence Force and other key government stakeholders.
The operational plan focuses on key areas:
●Enhanced visibility and rapid deployment capabilities: Law enforcement officers have been deployed in identified hotspots and strategic areas across the country. Additional public order policing resources remain on standby to respond swiftly to any incidents that threaten public safety and stability.
●Secondly, intelligence-led operations: Intelligence structures are continuously gathering and analysing information to identify threats, detect planned acts of violence and support proactive interventions before criminal incidents occur. Those who believe they can hide behind social media platforms, anonymous messaging groups or community meetings to incite violence should know that law enforcement agencies are actively monitoring criminal conduct and will act where evidence exists.
●Targeted crime-combatting operations: Joint operations are being conducted to address criminality that may arise under the guise of community concerns. These include operations aimed at arresting wanted suspects, confiscating illegal firearms, addressing drug trafficking, disrupting extortion networks and dealing with undocumented persons through lawful immigration processes.

MISDAADTONEEL: Coniston Park, Kaapstad: Rowers het Maandagaand, 8 Junie 2026 ‘n 42-jarige man se lewe kortgeknip toe hulle hom doodgeskiet het.

Die polisie van Muizenberg het omstreeks 17:55 gereageer op ‘n skietery by ‘n oop veld in Coniston-laan, Coniston Park.
Sersant Wesley Twigg, ‘n media skakelbeampte van die Wes-Kaapse polisie, het gesê toe die lede by die toneel aankom, het hulle die man met skietwonde aan sy liggaam gevind.
“Die slagoffer is op die toneel deur mediese personeel dood verklaar. Volgens berigte was die slagoffer op pad huis toe toe hy deur drie onbekende verdagtes genader is wat hom geskiet het. Die motief vir die aanval is vermoedelik roof. Die verdagtes het van die toneel gevlug en moet nog gearresteer word,” het Twigg gesê.

MISDAADTONEEL: Wynberg, Kaapstad: ‘n Bejaarde (69) man se drinkery in die publiek het hom agter tralies laat beland toe hy gevang is met amper 2000 kreefsterte.

Volgens die Stad Kaapstad was wetstoepassingsbeamptes verbonde aan die marine eenheid op Sondag 7 Junie 2026 besig met patrollies toe hulle naby Victoria-hospitaal in Wynberg mense in ‘n parkeer area sien drink.
Hulle het die mense genader en ‘n wit Mitsubishi voertuig deursoek. Die wetstoepassers het afgekom op 1 848 West Coast kreefsterte en R17 600 kontant. Die voertuig behoort aan die 69-jarige man, ‘n inwoner van Houtbaai, en hy is gearresteer.
Die Stad Kaapstad se burgemeesterskomiteelid vir veiligheid en sekuriteit, JP Smith, het gesê die voorval beklemtoon die vermetelheid van wetsoortreders in die Stad.
“Hoe anders verduidelik ‘n mens die openlike oortreding van die wet deur alkohol in die openbaar te gebruik, wetende dat jy in besit is van smokkelware?” het Smith gevra.
Behalwe dié saak, het wetstoepassers vir die week tot en met 7 Junie 2026, 199 arrestasies gemaak en die metropolisie166.
Die verkeerspolisie het 41 arrestasies aangeteken, waarvan 34 vir bestuur onder die invloed van alkohol, vier vir roekelose of nalatige bestuur en drie vir ander oortredings was. Hulle het ook 1 764 lasbriewe vir arrestasie uitgereik en 219 openbare vervoer-voertuie in beslag geneem.
Die openbare noodkommunikasiesentrum het oor die naweek van 5 tot 7 Junie 2026, 1 439 oproepe ontvang waarvan 87 gevalle vir fisiese aanranding was, 35 van gesinsgeweld en 43 padongelukke.

Man killed on his way home
CRIME SCENE: Coniston Park, Cape Town: A 42-year-old man lost his life at the hands of robbers when he was shot and killed on Monday night, 8 June 2026.

Muizenberg police responded to a complaint of a shooting at about 17:55, on an open field in Coniston Avenue, Coniston Park.
Sergeant Wesley Twigg, a Western Cape police media liaison officer, said when the members arrived at the scene they found the man with gunshot wounds to his body.
“The victim was declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel. According to reports the victim was walking home when he was approached by three unknown suspects who shot him. The motive for the attack is believed to be robbery. The suspects fled the scene and are yet to be arrested,” said Twigg
Muizenberg police are investigating a murder case.

Drinking leads to crayfish bust
A 69-year-old man’s apparent love for alcohol has landed him behind bars.

According to the City of Cape Town Law Enforcement officers attached to the Marine Unit were busy patrolling the Hout Bay and Wynberg areas on Sunday 7 June 2026. While driving near Victoria hospital, they spotted people drinking in a parking area.
During a search of a white Mitsubishi they discovered 1 848 West Coast Rock Lobster tails and R17 600 in cash in the 69-year-old’s vehicle. The Hout Bay resident was arrested and detained at Wynberg police station.
Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, JP Smith, said the incident highlights the audacity of lawbreakers in the city.
“How else does one explain openly breaking the law by consuming alcohol in public, knowing that you are in possession of contraband?,” Smith asked.
During weekly enforcement patrols, Law Enforcement officers made 199 arrests and issued 10 797 notices.
Metro Police officers made 166 arrests and issued 5 845 notices.
Traffic officers recorded 41 arrests, of which 34 were for driving under the influence of alcohol, four for reckless or negligent driving and three for other offences. They also issued 1 764 warrants of arrest and impounded 219 public transport vehicles.

The Public Emergency Communication Centre recorded 1 439 calls for assistance over the weekend. Of the calls received, 87 were physical assault related cases, 35 domestic violence related cases and 43 pedestrian and motor vehicle accidents.

MISDAADTONEEL: Rondebosch, Kaapstad: ‘n Verdagte is in hegtenis geneem, na bewering met ongeveer 70-meter koperkabel.

Beamptes van die sekuriteitsmaatskappy, Compass Tactical, het op 7 Junie 2026 patrollies uitgevoer toe hulle ‘n verdagte man met rugsak opmerk, het die maatskappy op Facebook gesê.
Die beamptes het die man deursoek en vermoedelik gesteelde koperkabel in sy rugsak gevind, asook gereedskap wat algemeen met kabeldiefstal geassosieer word.
Ongeveer 5–7kg kabel is op die toneel teruggevind, insluitend lengtes van ongeveer 50- en 20-meter.

About 70 metres of cable found in backpack
Pro-active patrols lead to arrest
CRIME SCENE: Rondebosch, Cape Town: A suspect has been caught, allegedly with about 70 metres of copper cable.

Officers from the security company, Compass Tactical, were conducting patrols on 7 June 2026 when they identified a suspicious-looking man carrying a backpack, the company posted on Facebook.
The officers conducted an enquiry and during a search of the suspect’s backpack, discovered suspected stolen copper cable along with tools commonly associated with cable theft.
Approximately 5–7kg of cable was recovered on scene, including lengths measuring approximately 50 metres and 20 metres.

MISDAADTONEEL: Dieprivier, Kaapstad: Die polisie het Saterdag, 6 Junie 2026 drie mans in ‘n Toyota voertuig met onwettige vuurwapens betrap.

Die stasie se misdaad-voorkomingseenheid het ‘n padblokkade saam met die metropolisie op die hoek van Hoof- en Fairdale-weg uitgevoer. Omstreeks 21:20 het hulle ‘n Toyota met drie insittendes voorgekeer.
Tydens die deursoeking het die polisie twee 9mm-pistole sonder reeksnommers, ‘n replika vuurwapen en 22 rondtes ammunisie gevind. Die drie mans is gearrester.
Bishop Lavis: ‘n 25-jarige vrou is Vrydag, 5 Junie 2026 by haar huis in Bishop Lavis gearresteer vir dwelms. Lede van Operasie Lockdown 3 het opgetree op grond van inligting oor dwelms wat by ‘n huis in Endweg, Bishop Lavis, aangehou word. Hulle het die perseel deursoek, 75 Mandrax-tablette gevind en die vrou gearresteer.

Police recover 3 illegal guns
CRIME SCENE: Diep River, Cape Town: Members of Diep River Crime Prevention Unit arrested three suspects for possession of prohibited firearms on Saturday, 6 June 2026.

The team conducted a vehicle check point operation with metro police at the corner of Main Road and Fairdale Road. At around 21:20, they stopped a Toyota vehicle with three occupants.
During the search, the members found two 9mm pistols without serial numbers, an imitation firearm and 22 rounds of ammunition. The three men were arrested.
Bishop Lavis: A 25-year-old woman was arrested at her Bishop Lavis home on Friday, 5 June 2026. Members of Operation Lockdown 3 acted on information about drugs that were kept at a house in End Road, Bishop Lavis. They searched the premises, found 75 Mandrax tablets and arrested the suspect.
