Toe die polisie by die toneel opdaag, het hulle die slagoffer in die straat kry lê. Hy het veelvuldige skietwonde aan die kop gehad. ‘n Moordsaak is geopen en die omstandighede rondom die voorval word ondersoek.

Captain FC van Wyk, a Western Cape police media liaison officer, said the Philippi police attended to the shooting incident at about 05:00 in Primrose Street, Hanover Park.

The victim, a 20-year-old man was found laying in the street when they arrived. He had multiple gunshot wounds to the head. A murder case was opened and the circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation.

Speurders van die Ernstige en Geweldsmisdaad-eenheid ondersoek ‘n driedubbele moord wat Sondagmiddag 7 Junie 2026 in Langa plaasgevind het.

Volgens die Wes-Kaapse polisie se media kantoor het beamptes op patrollie gereageer op ‘n skietery omstreeks 15:45 by ‘n braai staanplek in Chief Albert Luthuli-straat. Toe hulle by die toneel aankom, het hulle drie mans met noodlottige skietwonde aangetref.

Die motief vir die aanval is nog onbekend en geen arrestasies is in hierdie stadium gemaak nie.

Philippi-Oos: In die ander voorval, Saterdagaand 6 Junie 2026 omstreeks 19:00, is drie mans by ‘n vrugte- en groentestalletjie in Ntloyiyastraat, Lower Crossroads, Philippi-Oos doodgeskiet.

Die polisie sê drie verdagtes het op die slagoffers losgebrand. Hulle het veelvuldige skietwonde opgedoen en is op die toneel dood verklaar. Die motief is nog onbekend en geen arrestasies is nog gemaak nie.

CRIME SCENE: Langa: Cape Town:  Six people were shot dead in two separate incidents in Langa and Philippi East within a few hours.

Detectives from the Serious and Violent Crime Unit are investigating a triple murder that occurred in Langa on Sunday afternoon, 7 June 2026.

According to the Western Cape police media office, officers on patrol responded to reports of a shooting at around 15:45 at a braai stand in Chief Albert Luthuli Street. When they arrived, they found three adult men who had suffered fatal gunshot wounds.

The motive for the attack is still unknown and the suspects have not yet been identified. No arrests have been made at this stage.

Philippi East: On Saturday night, 6 June 2026 at around 19:00 three men were shot and killed at a fruit and vegetable stall in Ntloyiya Street, Lower Crossroads, Philippi East.

The police say three suspects opened fire on the victims, sustained multiple gunshot wounds and were declared dead at the scene. The motive is still unclear and no arrests have been made.

The police have requested anyone with information about the shootings to report it anonymously via Crime Stop at 08600 10111 or the MySAPS-App.

Three suspects behind bars

CRIME SCENE: Delft, Cape Town: The South African Police Services (SAPS) have arrested three people for a brutal axe attack on one of their own on Monday morning, 8 June 2026.

A media liaison officer for the Western Cape police, Colonel André Traut, said the incident happened at about 02:00 while the constable was standing outside the SAPS Community Service Centre in Delft.

He was approached by a suspect with an axe, who struck the constable on the head, causing serious injuries.

According to Traut a fellow officer who witnessed the incident immediately responded and fired warning shots, causing the suspects to flee. They abandoned their vehicle and attempted to evade arrest.

“A coordinated pursuit by SAPS members and LEAP (Law Enforcement Advancement Plan) officers resulted in the arrest of three suspects, two men aged 23 and 25-years and a 23-year-old woman. The axe believed to have been used in the attack was also recovered,” said Traut.

The injured police officer was transported to a hospital for treatment and is reported to be in a stable condition.

The circumstances surrounding the attack are under investigation.

Hanover Park murder victim shot in head

Man killed in early hours

CRIME SCENE: Hanover Park, Cape Town: A 38-year-old man was shot and killed in the early of Saturday morning, 6 June 2026.

The police said the shooting happened in Johndown Walk at about 03:10. When Philippi police arrived at the scene they found the body of the man with gunshot wounds on his head.

He was declared dead by medical personnel. The police is investigating the motive for the for the shooting. No arrest has been made.

NASIONAAL: Operasie Prosper het gedurende Mei meer as 1200 mense agter tralies gesit vir ernstige misdrywe.

Die Suid-Afrikaanse Polisiediens (SAPD) en die Suid-Afrikaanse Nasionale Weermag (SANDF) sê egter dit is ver van genoeg en hulle gaan voort om georganiseerde kriminele netwerke wat betrokke is by onwettige mynbou, bende verwante geweld en ander ernstige en gewelddadige misdade te beveg.

Gedurende Mei 2026 het gekoördineerde multi-dissiplinêre operasies in vyf provinsies gelei tot die arrestasie van 1 287 verdagtes.

Die verdagtes is gearresteer vir misdade wat insluit onwettige mynbou oortredings, moord, aanranding met die doel om ernstig te beseer, onwettige besit van vuurwapens en ammunisie, oortreding van die Immigrasiewet en verskeie ander ernstige oortredings.

Operasie Prosper vorm deel van die nasionale misdaadbestryding-inisiatief wat deur president Cyril Ramaphosa tydens sy 2026 Staatsrede aangekondig is.

Die SAPD en SANDF sê hulle bly daartoe verbind om saam met ander wetstoepassing-agentskappe en die regering te werk om te verseker dat kriminele netwerke ontwrig, oortreders aanspreeklik gehou  en gemeenskappe beveilig word.

NATIONAL: The South African Police Service (SAPS) and the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) continue to intensify efforts aimed at disrupting and dismantling organised criminal networks involved in illicit mining, gang-related violence and other serious and violent crimes.

During the month of May 2026, coordinated multidisciplinary operations conducted across five provinces resulted in the arrest of 1 287 suspects for a range of serious offences.

The suspects were arrested for crimes ranging from illicit mining-related offences, murder, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH), unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition, unlawful possession of gold-bearing material, contravention of the Immigration Act, to possession of suspected stolen property and various other serious offences.

Operation PROSPER currently comprises of personnel drawn from multiple law enforcement and security agencies, deployed across identified action areas in the Eastern Cape, Free State, Gauteng, North West and Western Cape. Through a coordinated and intelligence-driven approach, operational teams continue to conduct targeted interventions aimed at restoring law and order in crime hotspots and areas affected by illicit mining and gang-related activities.

Operational activities include high-visibility patrols, vehicle checkpoints, roadblocks, cordon-and-search operations and intelligence-led enforcement actions, resulting in significant arrests and the seizure of illicit commodities, firearms and criminal infrastructure.

ARRESTS EFFECTED DURING MAY 2026

▪️8 suspects arrested for murder

▪️384 suspects arrested for drug-related offences

▪️4 suspects arrested for assault GBH

▪️9 suspects arrested for unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition

▪️6 suspects arrested for unlawful possession of ammunition

▪️4 suspects arrested for unlawful possession of gold-bearing material

▪️363 suspects arrested for contravention of the Immigration Act

▪️7 suspects arrested for possession of suspected stolen property

▪️502 suspects arrested for offences including robbery, possession of dangerous weapons, malicious damage to property, contravention of the Second-Hand Goods Act, contravention of the Road Traffic Act, fraud and liquor-related offences

ITEMS RECOVERED AND CONFISCATED

Joint operational teams also recovered and confiscated the following items during operations conducted across the five provinces:

▪️31 illegal and unlicensed firearms and 11 replica firearms

▪️1 703 rounds of ammunition and 7 magazines

▪️13 740 litres of illicit alcohol

▪️1 stolen vehicle recovered

▪️Gold-bearing material

▪️Various quantities of drugs, including dagga, mandrax, heroin and CAT

Operation PROSPER forms part of the national crime-fighting initiative announced by President Cyril Ramaphosa during the 2026 State of the Nation Address.

The SAPS and SANDF remain committed to working alongside other law enforcement and government stakeholders to ensure that criminal networks are disrupted, offenders are brought to justice and communities are made safer.
