Grim discovery at Grassy Park petrol station
Newborn found in dirt bin
CRIME SCENE: Grassy Park, Cape Town: The local community were left in shock on Wednesday morning, 24 June 2026 when a newborn baby was discovered in a black dirt bin.

Western Cape police media liaison officer, Captain FC Van Wyk, said South African Police Service members in Grassy Park received a complaint of a baby found deceased in a black dirt bin at around 8.30am at a petrol station on the corner of Prince George Drive and 4th Avenue.
“Upon their arrival they were shown to the body of a newly born baby girl. Circumstances surrounding this incident are under investigation. Grassy Park SAPS opened an inquest for investigation,” said Van Wyk.

This is the third incident of a baby being found dead after being dumped since the beginning of May 2026.
The body of a newborn was discovered on the corner of Second Avenue and Antelope Street, Lotus River, on Sunday afternoon, 3 May 2026 at about 14:00.
On Monday morning, 4 May a foetus was found by a worker who was busy cleaning an open field in Vrygrond Avenue, Capricorn.

Emergency worker hijacked
CRIME SCENE: Khayelitsha, Cape Town: Another Emergency Medical Services (EMS) staff member has been attacked.

The worker was attacked and hijacked on Monday, 22 June while on duty.
Constable Ndakhe Gwala, a media liaison officer for the Western Cape police, said the incident occurred at a shopping mall in Khayelitsha.
“The 56-year-old female victim was walking towards her work vehicle when she was approached by gunmen who forced her inside and drove off with her. The police were informed by a bystander who witnessed the incident and a search ensued.
“The victim was found unharmed and the vehicle was recovered with damages inside. The suspects are still at large, investigation is ongoing,” said Gwala.
Last week another EMS staffer, Lionel Rossi, died while chasing after robbers who had taken his cellphone during a smash-and-grab incident in Jan Van Riebeeck Drive, Elsies River. The police have opened an inquest docket to investigate the cause of death.

MISDAADTONEEL: Elsiesrivier, Kaapstad: ‘n Man is Dinsdagaand 26 Junie 2026 voor sy huis doodgeskiet.

Volgens ‘n skakelbeampte vir die Wes-Kaapse polisie, kaptein FC van Wyk, het lede van die Suid-Afrikaanse Polisiediens (SAPD) van Elsiesrivier om 19:45 gereageer op ‘n skietvoorval by ‘n perseel in Ou Stellenbosch-weg, Clarke Estate, Elsiesrivier.
“Met hul aankoms het hulle die 43-jarige oorledene op die sypaadjie voor sy huis met veelvuldige skietwonde aan sy liggaam gevind. ‘n Moordsaak is geopen. Die motief vir die moord is vermoedelik bendeverwant,” het Van Wyk gesê.
Hy het mense met inligting oor die voorval versoek om Crime Stop op 08600 10111 te kontak of dit anoniem via die MySAPS-App aan te meld.

Man shot in front of his house
CRIME SCENE: Elsies River, Cape Town: A man was shot and killed in front of his house on Tuesday evening, 26 June 2026.

A media liaison officer for the Western Cape police, Captain FC van Wyk, said South African Police Service members from Elsies River police attended to a shooting incident at a premises in Old Stellenbosch Road, Clarke Estate, Elsies River at 19:45.
“On arrival they found the 43-year-old deceased laying on the pavement in front of his house with multiple gunshot wounds to his body. A murder case was opened for investigation. The motive is believed to be gang related,” sad Van Wyk.
