FBI help SAPS om seks netwerke te ontbloot

MISDAADTONEEL: Malmesbury, Wes-Kaap: ‘n 16-jarige seun is gearresteer omdat hy an bewering verbind word aan ‘n gewelddadige aanlyn seksuele netwerk.

Die Suid-Afrikaanse Polisiediens (SAPD) het saam met internasionale agentskappe gewerk en die tiener Maandag, 17 Augustus 2026 gearresteer vir die toegang tot en besit, fasilitering en aflaai van materiaal oor seksuele misbruik van kinders.

Die SAPD se Nasionale Ernstige- en Elektroniese Misdaad-ondersoek (SECI)-span het intelligensie ontvang van die Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) van die VSA, die Amerikaanse Ambassade en die Nasionale Sentrum vir Vermiste en Uitbuiting van Kinders (NCMEC).

Die inligting het aangedui die verdagte, wat daarvan verdink word dat dat hy ‘n verbintenis het met die gewelddadige aanlyn netwerke wat algemeen bekend staan ​​as “764”, vermoedelik in Suid-Afrika is.

Volgens die SAPD is “764” gewelddadige internasionale aanlyn ekstremistiese netwerke wat met kinderuitbuiting geassosieer word.

“Hierdie oortreders teiken en pers na bewering minderjariges af en dwing hulle tot aanlyn seksuele misbruik, marteling en moord op diere en ander vorme van skadelike kriminele aktiwiteite.

“Na uitgebreide ondersoeke het die SECI-span die tiener na ‘n adres in Malmesbury opgespoor, waar hy gearresteer is terwyl hy na bewering besig was met die misdade.

“’n Voorlopige ontleding van die verdagte se elektroniese toestelle het eksplisiete beelde en video’s ontdek wat seksuele misbruik van kinders en diere-verminking uitbeeld. Die toestelle sal omvattende forensiese ontleding ondergaan om die volle omvang van die beweerde oortredings te bepaal.

“’n Aantal kinderslagoffers is tot dusver geïdentifiseer,” sê die SAPD.

Die tiener sal na verwagting op Dinsdag 18 Augustus 2026 voor die Malmesbury-landdroshof verskyn.

Gunman dies after day-long shootout

CRIME SCENE: Robertson, Western Cape: A day long stand-off between police in and a gunman ended in tragedy when the suspect died and a police member were injured during the shooting.

According to the South African Police Service (SAPS) the incident happened on a farm in De Hoop, Robertson. It started on Sunday evening, 16 August 2026, with a complaint to local police of a man who shot at a neighbour’s car.

“This escalated into a gun battle that continued into Monday evening, 17 August 2026 leaving a trail of damaged police vehicles and an injured policeman,” said SAPS.

Robertson police who responded to the first complaint on Sunday evening came under fire from the gunman and called for back-up.

“The tactical response team (TRT) were later ployed to diffuse the standoff, but their was also shot at by the gunman, resulting in one police official suffering injury to his shoulder. He was hospitalised and is receiving medical attention.

“The operational response was escalated with the special task force also deployed on Monday afternoon. A heavy gun battle ensued as the gunman shot at task force members damaging a police armoured vehicle (Nyala).  

“Two women who were in a neighbouring house were subsequently rescued. The task force  later gained entry to the house where the 40-year-old-gunman was shooting from. He was shot in the shootout and died on the scene,” said SAPS.

An inquest docket has been opened for investigation. The IPID officials were also summoned to the scene. Police still continue to maintain a strong presence on the farm and further investigations continue.

An assault rifle, a shot gun, two pistols, magazines, different types of ammunition, flags and notebooks with inscriptions were seized.

The Acting National Commissioner of SAPS, Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane, has commended the “swift and courageous intervention by the members during a prolonged armed standoff in Robertson, which resulted in the death of a 40-year-old gunman”.


International forces help to trace 16-year-old boy

CRIME SCENE: Malmesbury, Western Cape: A 16-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with links to a violent online sexual abuse networks.

The South African Police Service (SAPS) worked in close collaboration with international law enforcement agencies to arrest the teenager on Monday, 17 August 2026, for accessing, possession, facilitation and downloading of child sexual abuse material.

SAPS’ National Serial and Electronic Crime Investigations (SECI) team received intelligence from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the United States Embassy and the National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC).

It indicated that a target, suspected of being linked to violent online networks commonly referred to as “764,” was believed to be located in South Africa.

According to SAPS these “764” networks are violent international online extremist networks associated with child exploitation.

“These perpetrators reportedly target, blackmail, and coerce minors into online sexual abuse, torturing and murdering of animals and other forms of harmful criminal activity.

“Following extensive investigations, the SECI team traced the teenager to an address in Malmesbury, where he was arrested in the act.

“The operation was led by the National SECI team, supported by members of the Occult Unit, the Paarl Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit, Paarl K9 Unit, and Western Cape Crime Scene Investigation Unit, as well as agents from the FBI and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI).

“A preliminary on-site analysis of the suspect’s electronic devices uncovered explicit images and videos depicting child sexual abuse and animal mutilation. The devices will undergo comprehensive forensic analysis to determine the full extent of the alleged offences.

“A number of child victims have been identified thus far.

“The teenager is expected to appear before the Malmesbury Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 18 August 2026. The possibility of additional offences relating to fraud and money laundering forms part of ongoing investigations,” said SAPS.
