Search take cops to Khayelitsha, Saldanha
High drama as hostage rescued
CRIME SCENE: Summer Greens, Cape Town: A police search that started in Summer Greens near Milnerton and took detectives to Khayelitsha, ended in Saldanha Bay where a kidnapped businessman was rescued on Monday evening, 1 June 2026.

According to a police media liaison officer, Brigadier Novela Potelwa, it is alleged that the 51-year-old businessman and other occupants were robbed in a house in Summer Greens on 25 May 2026.
Seven suspects robbed the occupants of cellphones and a substantial amount of cash, before kidnapping the businessman for ransom, said Potelwa.
“Following the kidnapping, members of the Anti-Kidnapping Task Team in the Western Cape, intelligence operatives and special task force members descended on several premises in Makhaza, Khayelitsha on Friday evening, 29 May 2026, where they arrested five suspects during a tracing operation.
“Further information led the task team to a house in Basil February Street in the West Coast town of Saldanha where a person was arrested. They later pounced on another house in Noordse Street, also in Saldanha, where the hostage was rescued and three suspects arrested. The hostage who was tied up and appeared injured from presumed torture was taken to a medical facility for treatment,” she said.
The suspects, seven men and two women between the ages of 20 and 50-years are expected to appear in the Cape Town Magistrates court on Wednesday 3 June, facing charges for the possession of stolen property, firearms and ammunition and robbery, kidnapping and extortion.
Western Cape SAPS management has commended the Anti-Kidnapping Task Team for the meticulous investigations that led to rescue of the hostage and arrests.
