Skoonmaker smokkel na bewering met dwelms
Polisie vee Wynberg-hof skoon
MISDAADTONEEL: Wynberg, Kaapstad: ’n Skoonmaker wat in die Wynberg-landdroshof werk is op heter daad betrap terwyl hy na bewering dwelms aan ’n gevangene oorhandig het.
Die Wynberg-polisie het inligting ontvang oor die skoonmaker, wat van plan was om die smokkelware op Maandag, 28 September 2026, te oorhandig.
Volgens die Suid-Afrikaanse Polisiediens (SAPD) het lede omstreeks 07:30 na die hof gegaan en die verdagte op heter daad betrap.
“Die polisie het beslag gelê op ’n sak wat 88 Mandrax-tablette, 10 pakkies tabak, sewe pakkies Tik, vyf pakkies dagga, ’n selfoon met twee SIM-kaarte en ’n charging kabel bevat het. Die 42-jarige man is gearresteer.
“Die lede het Dinsdag, 29 September 2026, die verdagte se kantoor in die hofgebou deursoek en ’n sak gevind wat na bewering aan die verdagte behoort. Daarin was 402 Mandrax-tablette, 41 sakkies Tik, een pakkie kokaïen, vyf pakkies dagga, 14 selfone met 16 SIM-kaarte en twee selfoonlaaiers. Daar is op die sak en die inhoud daarvan beslag gelê,” het die SAPD gesê.
Die verdagte het op Woensdag, 30 September 2026, in dieselfde hof waar hy gewerk het, verskyn.

Three arrested for tax fraud
CRIME SCENE: Mpumalanga: The Hawks have arrested three people in connection with alleged tax fraud and money laundering of more than R1,8 million.
The accused, Thandiwe Patricia Mokwena (33), Thabiso France Motsoeneng (32) and Sfiso Doctor Mokwena (28), were arrested on Tuesday, 29 September 2026 when members of the Hawks’ Middelburg Serious Commercial Crime Investigation (SCCI) executed warrants of arrest.
The investigation follows a complaint lodged by SARS.
It is alleged that Maps Africa Holdings (Pty) Ltd, of which Thandiwe Mokwena is a director colluded with the two accused and one outstanding suspect when submitting fraudulent tax returns for the period 2019 to 2021.
The company also allegedly submitted fraudulent VAT returns for the same period.
The accused appeared before the Witbank Magistrate’s Court, where all three were granted bail of R7 000- each. The matter was postponed to 28 October 2026 pending the arrest of accused number four.

Cleaner cuffed at court for drugs
CRIME SCENE: Wynberg, Cape Town: A cleaner at the Wynberg Magistrate’s court has been caught red handed while allegedly handing over drugs to a detainee
Wynberg police received intelligence about the cleaner, who intended to hand over the contraband on Monday, 28 September 2026.
According to the South African Police Service (SAPS) the members went to the court at about 07:30 and caught the suspect in the act.
“Police seized a bag containing 88 mandrax tablets, 10 packets of tobacco, seven packets of Tik, five packets of dagga, a cellphone with two sim cards and a charging cable. The 42-year-old man was arrested for possession of illegal drugs.
“On Tuesday, 29 September 2026, the members conducted a search at the suspect’s office in the court building. They found a bag that allegedly belonged to the suspect and inside were 402 mandrax tablets, 41 sachets of Tik, one packet of cocaine, five packets of dagga, 14 cellphones with 16 sim cards and two cellphone chargers. The bag with its contents was seized,” said SAPS.
The suspect appeared in the same court where worked on Wednesday 30 September 2026.

FROM THE COURTS: Two men who stole from the same retail store in Upington in separate incidents have been sentenced to time behind bars.
In April 2026, 23-year-old Ashley Mataba stole several items valued at R517. He was subsequently convicted of theft by the Upington Magistrates’ Court and sentenced to 30 months’ imprisonment.
In May 2026, 28-year-old Michael Bloem stole items valued at R534 from the same store. He was convicted of theft by the same court and sentenced to three years’ imprisonment.
The Acting District Commissioner of the ZF Mgcawu District, Brigadier Peet Coetzee, commended the investigating officer, Detective Sergeant Harold Booysen, for his meticulous investigation, which contributed to the successful prosecution and convictions of both accused.

Kariega killer gets life
FROM THE COURTS: Convicted murderer and gangster, Anthony Ruiters (41), also known as Nabbas, has received three life sentences.
Ruiters was found guilty on 7 July 2026 on a number of charges in the Gqeberha High Court. On Tuesday, 29 September 2026, he was sentenced to life on each of three murder counts and 10 years’ imprisonment on two counts of attempted murder.
In addition he received 15 years for aggravated business robbery, five years for Illegal possession of a firearm, two years for Illegal possession of ammunition and one year for pointing a firearm.
The court ordered that all sentences run concurrently.
The investigation was led by Detective Warrant Officer Dudley Ferreira of the Anti-Gang Unit.
The court heard that on the evening of 29 October 2021 Jaydin Stalmeester, Nicolyn Ferreira and Dillon Booysen were killed in Kariega. Fernando van Rooyen and Rodwin Human were shot and wounded.
Stalmeester was taken to hospital in Kariega, where he died. Human was shot in the leg as he entered the Oasis tavern on Seagull Street. Ferreira was shot after leaving the tavern. The accused later returned and shot Ferreira again. Booysen was chased and shot while attempting to flee. Ferreira was declared dead on arrival at hospital, and Booysen died at the scene.
During the investigation, DNA evidence also linked Ruiters to an incident in Jeffreys Bay on the evening of 13 September 2014. On that night armed assailants entered O Chorros Function Venue, assaulted occupants and demanded cash and cellular phones.
They removed property from the venue, including a Chevrolet Spark belonging to Nico van Onselen. The vehicle was recovered later that evening in Terblanche Street, Gelvandale, Gqeberha.
Acting Nelson Mandela Bay District Commissioner Brigadier Loyiso Ngalo commended Detective Ferreira and prosecutor Advocate Liezel Landman from the DPP for their diligent work and the successful prosecution that led to the conviction.
He said gangsterism remains a major concern in the community and that the conviction must send a clear message that those involved in criminal activities will be pursued and arrested.

UIT DIE HOF: Die Gqeberha-hooggeregshof het ‘n bendeliid tot drie keer lewenslank in die tronk gevonnis vir moord.
Anthony Ruiters (41), ook bekend as Nabbas, is op 7 Julie 2026 in die Gqeberha-hooggeregshof op verskeie aanklagte skuldig bevind. Hy is op Dinsdag, 29 September 2026, tot lewenslange tronkstraf vir elk van drie aanklagte van moord gevonnis, asook 10 jaar tronkstraf vir twee aanklagte van poging tot moord.
Daarbenewens het hy 15 jaar gekry vir gewapende besigheidsroof, vyf jaar vir die onwettige besit van ‘n vuurwapen, twee jaar vir die onwettige besit van ammunisie en een jaar vir die rig van ‘n vuurwapen.
Die hof het beveel dat al die vonnisse samelopend uitgedien moet word.
Die ondersoek is gelei deur speur-adjudantoffisier Dudley Ferreira van die anti-bende-eenheid.
Die hof het gehoor dat Jaydin Stalmeester, Nicolyn Ferreira en Dillon Booysen die aand van 29 Oktober 2021 in Kariega doodgeskiet is. Fernando van Rooyen en Rodwin Human is gewond.
Stalmeester is na ‘n hospitaal in Kariega geneem, waar hy oorlede is. Human is in die been geskiet toe hy die Oasis-kroeg in Seagull-straat binnegegaan het. Ferreira is geskiet nadat sy die kroeg verlaat het. Die beskuldigde het later teruggekeer en Ferreira weer geskiet. Booysen is agternagesit en geskiet terwyl hy probeer vlug het. Ferreira is met aankoms by die hospitaal dood verklaar, en Booysen is op die toneel oorlede.
Tydens die ondersoek het DNS-bewyse Ruiters ook verbind aan ‘n voorval in Jeffreysbaai op die aand van 13 September 2014. Daardie aand het gewapende aanvallers die O Chorros-onthaalplek binnegegaan, die mense daar aangerand en kontant en selfone geëis.
Hulle het eiendom uit die perseel verwyder, insluitend ‘n Chevrolet Spark wat aan Nico van Onselen behoort het. Die voertuig is later daardie aand in Terblanche-straat, Gelvandale, Gqeberha, teruggevind.
Die waarnemende distrikskommissaris van Nelson Mandelabaai, brigadier Loyiso Ngalo, het speurder Ferreira en die aanklaer, advokaat Liezel Landman van die kantoor van die Direkteur van Openbare Vervolging (DPV), geprys vir hul toegewyde werk en die suksesvolle vervolging wat tot die skuldigbevinding gelei het.
Hy het gesê bendes bly ‘n groot bron van kommer in die gemeenskap en dat die skuldigbevinding ‘n duidelike boodskap uitstuur dat diegene wat by kriminele aktiwiteite betrokke is, gevind en gearresteer sal word.

Extortion ring uncovered
CRIME SCENE: Gugulethu, Cape Town: The police have uncovered an extortion ring while questioning a suspect in an attempted murder case.
According to the South African Police Service (SAPS) Gugulethu police were interrogating the suspect on Monday, 28 September 2026.
“During the interrogation he revealed details about extortion activities and firearms concealed at an address in NY136. The intelligence was conveyed to members of the Crime Prevention Unit, who immediately went to the address, where they found two suspects and confiscated a 9mm pistol with seven rounds of ammunition.
“Further probing led to a second address in NY7, where two more suspects were found in possession of a 9mm pistol without a serial number. The four suspects, aged 19, 20, 26 and 37-years, were arrested for extortion, possession of prohibited firearms and illegal possession of ammunition,” said SAPS.
Foreigners arrested at spaza shop, main target flees

CRIME SCENE: Diepsloot, Gauteng: Two foreigners have been arrested for allegedly being in possession of Tik worth over R500 000.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) Crime Prevention Unit (CPU) conducted an ad hoc operation, in response to information regarding the suspected storage and distribution of illegal narcotics at Diepsloot informal settlement on Monday, 28 September 2026.
According to SAPS the information was received from a registered informant, who indicated that a known target was expected to receive a consignment of Crystal Meth (Tik) estimated to weigh 3kg, with a street value of over R700 000.00. The drugs were allegedly intended for distribution and sale in the vicinity.
“Diepsloot SAPS CPU members responded and conducted a search at a spaza shop. During the operation, members seized approximately 2kg of Crystal Meth, with an estimated street value of over R500 000.00.
“The recipient fled the scene just before the police could arrest them. Two suspects, who were identified as Ethiopian and Malawian nationals, were subsequently arrested in connection with possession and distribution of illegal narcotics,” said SAPS.

KAAPSTAD: Vinnige optrede deur die Metrop Polisie se eenheid teen motorkapings het gelei tot die arrestasie van vier verdagtes.
Die eenheid is Sondag, 27 September 2026, ongeveer 15:36, in kennis gestel van ‘n silwer Toyota Corolla wat in TT-seksie, Site B, Khayelitsha gekaap is.
Beamptes het die voertuig by die kruising van Govan Mbeki-weg en Oscar Mpetha-rylaan opgespoor. Toe hulle nader beweeg, het twee verdagtes uit die voertuig gespring en weggehardloop.
Die beamptes het hulle agternagesit gearresteer saam met twee ander wat nog in die voertuig was, insluitend ‘n 15-jarige seun.
“Dit is bemoedigend om te sien hoe doeltreffend die personeel van dié eenheid op hierdie voorvalle reageer. Dit wys ons gereed om op te tree sodra die sake by die Stad aangemeld word.
“Maar die sindikate agter hierdie kapings moet gestuit word, net soos die afpersingsindikate wat die gemeenskappe teister,” het JP Smith, die Stad burgemeesterskomiteelid vir veiligheid en sekuriteit, gesê.
Vir die afgelope week het die Metropolisie 211 verdagtes gearresteer – insluitend 104 vir dronkbestuur – en 3 819 boetes uitgereik.
Daarbenewens het hulle ‘n hoeveelheid dwelms gekonfiskeer en verskeie gekaapte voertuie teruggevind.
Wetstoepassing-beamptes het 214 arrestasies uitgevoer en 11 521 boetes tydens weeklikse patrollies uitgereik.
Op die paaie het verkeersbeamptes 51 verdagtes gearresteer – 36 vir dronkbestuur, 11 vir roekelose en nalatige bestuur en vier op ander aanklagte. Hulle het 1 749 lasbriewe uitgevoer, 108 openbare vervoervoertuie geskut en 42 118 boetes uitgereik.
“Inwoners van die Stad kan wetteloosheid by ons inbelsentrum aanmeld deur 021 480 7700 te skakel of die Stad se App te gebruik om ‘n voorval direk by Veiligheid en Sekuriteit aan te meld,” het Smith gesê.
Four suspects arrested soon after assault
Police officers attacked
CRIME SCENE: Harrismith, KwaZulu-Natal: Three police officers were assaulted by five attackers during the early hours of Sunday morning, 27 September 2026.
Four of the suspects have since been arrested and the police officers received medical treatment in hospital.
According to the South African Police Service (SAPS) the three off-duty officers were attacked while they were seated in their private vehicles outside a tavern in Harrismith.
One of the officers noticed a group of people attacking two of his colleagues. He immediately got out of his vehicle to intervene, but was also assaulted and injured in the process.
The five suspects fled the scene in an unknown vehicle at approximately 02:00.
Following a swift response and preliminary investigation, police managed to arrest four of the five suspects, aged between 21 and 25-years The fifth suspect remains at large.
Cases of attempted murder are being investigated.
