Police arrest thousands in a week
CRIME SCENE: Limpopo: The South African Police Service (SAPS) in Limpopo have arrested 2 571 suspects and seized 12 firearms in the past week alone.
The seizures and arrests were a result of police action under Operation Shanela 2. SAPS also recovered 229 rounds and 10 stolen or robbed vehicles across the province during the period 14 to 20 September 2026.
The operations were conducted across all five districts and targeted serious and violent crimes, illegal firearms, drug-related offences, unlawful liquor activities, undocumented persons and other criminal activities threatening the safety and security of communities.
The Provincial Commissioner of Limpopo, Lieutenant General Jan Scheepers, commended police members for their continued commitment to crime prevention and law enforcement across the province.
“We will continue to strengthen our presence in communities and pursue those who threaten the safety of our people.”
Police find four shot men, three die

CRIME SCENE: Lingelethu West, Cape Town: The Western Cape police are investigating a triple murder and attempted murder following a shooting in Phumleni, Lingelethu-West, on Sunday, 20 September 2026.
At approximately 22:20, police responded to a shooting at an informal dwelling where they found four males with gunshot wounds inside. Three victims, aged between 27 and 36-years, were declared deceased at the scene, while a 38-year-old male was transported to a medical facility for treatment.
Serious Violent Crime detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting. No arrests have been made at this stage.

Breakthrough in women killings
CRIME SCENE: Gauteng: The South African Police Service (SAPS) has made a breakthrough in the murder investigation involving the ninth victim in the Gauteng-women killings case.
A man and two women were arrested over the weekend by members of the Gauteng Murder and Robbery Unit, in connection with the murder.
The Acting National Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane, says all nine murder cases are receiving priority attention.
“We remain committed to ensuring that these investigations are pursued with the urgency and determination they require. Our investigators are following all available leads and are working tirelessly to bring those responsible to justice,” says Dimpane.

CRIME SCENE: Gauteng: A man who is suspected of raping 14 women, is back behind after being bail released on bail
Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit detectives in Ulundi arrested the 36-year-old suspect on Sunday, 20 September 2026, in the Ncotshane area in Nongoma in connection with the rape of the 14 women in the Zululand district and Gauteng Province.
He allegedly raped a woman in January 2010. He was arrested, released on bail and absconded from court.
According to the South African Police Service (SAPS), he allegedly raped seven women in Pongola, four women in Primrose and Germiston in Gauteng Province, and one woman each in the Paulpietersburg and Magudu policing precincts, while in bail
“His modus operandi was to break either a window or a door of the houses of women who were staying alone and threaten them with a knife. Investigations linked him to all the cases through DNA analysis.
“The suspect will appear in the Mahlabathini Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 21 September 2026, for his failure to appear in court in 2010, and thereafter he will be formally charged for the other 13 rape cases,” said SAPS.
