Two people shot and killed in same street on same day
Three shootings take three lives
CRIME SCENE: Retreat, Cape Town: Two people were reportedly shot in the same street in Cafda Village on Wednesday 23 September 2026.
In the first incident on Wednesday morning just after 11am a man was shot and wounded on a field next to Elsie Manning Street. According to reports the victim was walking to a nearby shop when he was attacked.
He was taken to hospital, but unconfirmed reports state he died on his way there.
Then, at approximately 21:40, the police responded to another shooting incident in Elsie Manning, according to a Western Cape Police Media Liaison Officer, Captain FC Van Wyk. “Upon arrival, members found the body of a 29-year-old male who sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body.
“According to reports occupants in a white Toyota Etios and grey Peugeot shot him while on his bicycle. He dropped the bike and ran, but collapsed and died. The motive is believed to be gang related. Steenberg police registered a murder case for investigation,” said Van Wyk.
In a third shooting on the same day in the Greater Retreat-Steenberg area, a man was killed and two others wounded at about 17:40 in St Alexander Street, Montague Village.
According to the police the shots were fired from a white minibus.
No arrests have yet been made.
Police catch one suspect hiding under a bed
Alleged ATM bombers nabbed
CRIME SCENE: Pretoria, Gauteng: The South African Police Services (SAPS) have arrested two suspects allegedly involved in ATM bombings and business robberies.
One of the suspects was caught hiding under a bed, according to SAPS.
The suspects, both aged 31-years, were arrested during a multidisciplinary intelligence-led operation conducted by the Gauteng Crime Intelligence, Tactical and Special Operations, Gauteng Highway Patrol, Pretoria West Detectives and Vusela Covert, on Wednesday, 23 September 2026.
The operation followed crime intelligence regarding individuals allegedly involved in ATM bombings, ATM safe pull-outs, drop-safe bombings and business robberies in Gauteng and neighbouring provinces.
“The team proceeded to a residence in Lotus Gardens, Pretoria West. Upon arrival, a woman was found at the premises and indicated that she was alone. A search of the residence was conducted, during which one of the suspects was found hiding underneath a bed.
“The investigation continued, leading police to the premises of the second suspect, which was also searched. During the operation, police recovered a Z88 pistol and a semi-automatic rifle, both without serial numbers. A search of a motor vehicle was also conducted, resulting in the recovery of rifle ammunition and magazines,” said SAPS.
