Grim discovery at Grassy Park petrol station
Newborn found in dirt bin
CRIME SCENE: Grassy Park, Cape Town: The local community were left in shock on Wednesday morning, 24 June 2026 when a newborn baby was discovered in a black dirt bin.

Western Cape police media liaison officer, Captain FC Van Wyk, said South African Police Service members in Grassy Park received a complaint of a baby found deceased in a black dirt bin at around 8.30am at a petrol station on the corner of Prince George Drive and 4th Avenue.
“Upon their arrival they were shown to the body of a newly born baby girl. Circumstances surrounding this incident are under investigation. Grassy Park SAPS opened an inquest for investigation,” said Van Wyk.

This is the third incident of a baby being found dead after being dumped since the beginning of May 2026.
The body of a newborn was discovered on the corner of Second Avenue and Antelope Street, Lotus River, on Sunday afternoon, 3 May 2026 at about 14:00.
On Monday morning, 4 May a foetus was found by a worker who was busy cleaning an open field in Vrygrond Avenue, Capricorn.
