CRIME SCENE: Elsies River, Cape Town: The fight against illegal guns and drugs on the Cape Flats is continuing unabatedly.

During intelligence-driven operations on Wednesday, 1 July 2026, the police arrested two men following the discovery of illegal items in their possession.
According to the South African Service (SAPS), the members followed up on information about a man walking around with, possibly with a firearm in his possession. When they found the 37-year-old suspect in 35th Street, Elsies River, they search him and found three rounds of ammunition and half a mandrax tablet in his pockets.
Bishop Lavis: In a separate incident, at approximately 20:25 on Wednesday 1 July 2026, the police arrested a 31-year-old man for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition after they found a 9mm pistol and 11 rounds of ammunition at his residence in Davids Street.
