Gang leader tried to bribe him from prison - police

SAPS commend honest cop

CRIME SCENE: Mitchells Plain, Cape Town: The management of the South African Police Service in the Western Cape has commended a policeman after his actions led to the arrest of a woman for bribery and drugs.

According to SAPS the member of the Mitchells Plain Crime Prevention Unit received a phone call on Wednesday, 15 July 2026 from a gang leader who is currently serving a sentence at Pollsmoor Prison.

“The gang leader requested that the member collect drugs from his wife and hand them over to an inmate appearing at the Mitchells Plain Regional Court. He also offered the member a cash payment for carrying out the request.

“The member proceeded to the address in Otland Street, Westridge. Upon arrival, the woman handed him a parcel containing dagga, two grams of tik, two knives, four cigarette lighters, a packet of cigarettes and cash. The 32-year-old woman was immediately arrested for possession of drugs and bribery.

“We commend the member, who demonstrated the highest level of integrity while carrying out his duties,” said SAPS.

Wesbank: Members of the Mfuleni Crime Prevention Unit arrested three men for possession of a prohibited firearm at Walmer Crescent, Wesbank. Acting on information received, members searched the premises and found three men inside the house. A 9mm pistol with the serial number removed and 14 rounds of ammunition were recovered from under a mattress and seized.
