Two arrested for gun, ammo

CRIME SCENE: Manenberg, Cape Town: The South African Police Service (SAPS) have arrested two alleged gangsters and recovered an illegal weapon and ammunition.

According to SAPS the eradication of illegal firearms remains a key priority in the Western Cape as Operation Lockdown III intensifies.

Members of the Anti-Gang-Unit and Operation Lockdown III confiscated the prohibited firearm and various calibres of ammunition during on Monday, 3 August 2026.

The search commenced at a house in Colleen Street, Manenberg, where they found a 9mm pistol without a serial number and 56 rounds of ammunition.

They proceeded to an address in Niele Court and recovered 71 rounds of ammunition of different calibres. The two gang-affiliated male suspects, aged 24 and 44-years, were arrested for possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition.
