Foreigners arrested for makeshift detergents
2 in hot water over fake goods
CRIME SCENE: Windmill Park, Springs: Two foreign nations have been caught red handed while manufacturing fake cleaning products.

According to the South African Police Service (SAPS) the two suspects, aged 37 and 50-years, were arrested in Windmill Park informal settlement on Tuesday, 18 August 2026, by the Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation team together with Public Order Policing based in Springs.
SAPS said it received information from a brand holder regarding a makeshift manufacturing facility producing detergents and foam bath products. The police followed up on the information and visited two addresses in the settlement.
“Upon arrival at the premises, members discovered large quantities of chemicals and finished products, including thick bleach, fabric softener, dishwashing liquid and bath foam.
“It is alleged that the chemicals are mixed in 200-litre barrels and subsequently repackaged into recycled containers bearing labels of well-known brands manufactured by Unilever and Colgate-Palmolive,” said SAPS.
All seized finished products and chemicals will be subjected to forensic chemical analysis to determine their composition and to establish whether they are in contravention of applicable legislation.
