Police discover drug storage

CRIME SCENE: Heideveld, Cape Town: The South African Police Service (SAPS) have uncovered a drug storage belonging to a local gang in Sneeuberg Street, Heideveld.

Police members attached to Operation Lockdown 3 acted on intelligence and descended on the premises on Sunday, 21 June 2026. According to the police they searched the premises and recovered two digital scales, 48 Mandrax tablets and 39 sachets of cocaine.

A 40-year-old man then voluntarily handed over a black bag containing 678 sachets of tik, 63 grams of Tik crystals and 28 rounds of 9mm ammunition. A further probe led to the recovery of a 9mm pistol and an undisclosed amount of cash.

The 40-year-old was arrested for possession of drugs, possession of an unlicensed firearm, and illegal possession of ammunition.

Manenberg: In another incident, a 52-year-old man was arrested for possession of a prohibited firearm in Picos Walk, Manenberg, on Tuesday, 23 June 2026. The members followed up on information about a firearm, and they went to the suspect’s home at around 03:00. While searching the premises, they found a 9mm pistol without a serial number and 15 rounds of ammunition. The suspect admitted that he is affiliated to a gang and that he bought the firearm for protection against a rival group.
