Moordverdagte aangekeer

MISDAADTONEEL: Lavender Hill, Kaapstad: Die Suid-Afrikaanse Polisiediens (SAPD) het ‘n moordverdagte gearresteer en ‘n vuurwapen in Lavender Hill gekonfiskeer.

Volgens die SAPD het die Anti-Bende-Eenheid op Woensdag, 22 Julie 2026 ‘n deursoek-en-stop-operasie in Grindallaan uitgevoer. Tydens die operasie het hulle ‘n 23-jarige man deursoek en ‘n 9mm Star-pistool sonder ‘n reeksnommer en 64 rondtes ammunisie in sy besit gevind.

“Die lede word in die gebied ontplooi weens voortdurende bendegeweld. Verdere ondersoek het ook aangedui dat die verdagte gesoek word in verband met ‘n moord wat in Julie vanjaar gepleeg is.

“Die verdagte sal Maandag 27 Julie 2026 voor die Wynberg-landdroshof verskyn,” het die SAPD gesê.

Police catch murder suspect

CRIME SCENE: Lavender Hill, Cape Town: The South African Police Service (SAPS) have arrested a murder suspect and confiscated a firearm in Lavender Hill.

According to SAPS the Anti-Gang-Unit conducted a search and stop operation in Grindal Avenue on Wednesday, 22 July 2026. During the operation they searched a 23-year-old a man and found a 9mm Star pistol without a serial number and 64 rounds of ammunition in his possession.

“The members are deployed in the area due to ongoing gang violence. Further investigation also indicated that the suspect is wanted in connection with a murder case perpetrated in July this year.

“The suspect will appear before the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 27 July 2026,” said SAPS.

Polisie red ontvoer slagoffer

NASIONAAL: Verdagtes wat ‘n man na bewering ontvoer het, het ‘n onwelkome besoek van die polisie ontvang toe hulle kort nácdie misdaad aangekeer is.

Volgens die Suid-Afrikaanse Polisiediens (SAPD) het die Vrystaatse Provinsiale Moord- en Roofeenheid, die Welkom K9-eenheid en die Parkweg Taktiese Reaksiespan (TRT) saamgewerk om ses mans tussen die ouderdomme van 28 en 46-jaar-oud te vang.

‘n 29-jarige man is na bewering op Vrydag 24 Julie 2026 met ‘n vuurwapen gedreig en uit sy huis in Steyn ontvoer. Die saak is by die Welkom-polisie en die Provinsiale Moord- en Roofeenheid in Thabong aangemeld.

Die familie van die slagoffer het oproepe ontvang wat ‘n losprys vir sy vrylating geëis het. Volgens die SAPD is die Welkom K9- en die TRT-eenheid geaktiveer waarna inligting hulle na ‘n huis in Flamingo Park gelei.

Toe die polisie daar opdaag, het die verdagtes probeer vlug, maar is vinnig aangekeer.

Die 29-jarige slagoffer is in ‘n erge skok toestand in die garage gevind met albei hande agter sy rug vasgebind. Hy het beserings aan die agterkant van sy kop en kneusplekke aan sy hande en voete opgedoen.

Die polisie het twee handwapens en ammunisie gekry en op drie voertuie beslag gelê, waarvan een as gesteel in Winburg aangemeld is.

Die ses verdagtes sal Maandag 27 Julie 2026 in die Welkom-landdroshof verskyn.


Man found in shock, suspects arrested

Police rescue kidnap victim

NATIONAL: A group of alleged kidnappers received and unwelcome visit from the police who apprehended them soon after they had taken their victim.

According to the South African Police Service (SAPS) a collaboration between the Free State Provincial Murder and Robbery Unit, the Welkom K9 Unit, and the Parkweg Tactical Response Team (TRT) resulted in the swift arrest of six men aged between 28 and 46-years.

On Friday, 24 July 2026, a 29-year-old male was allegedly kidnapped at gunpoint from his house in Steyn. The matter was reported to the Welkom Police and the Provincial Murder and Robbery Unit based in Thabong.

The family of the victim received phone calls from the alleged suspects demanding a ransom for his release.

According to SAPS the Welkom K9 and the TRT Unit were activated.

Information led police to a house in Flamingo Park.

When the police arrived the suspects attempted to flee but were quickly apprehended.

The 29-year-old victim was found in a severe state of shock inside the garage with both hands tied behind his back. He sustained injuries to the back of the head and bruises on his hands and feet.

Police seized two handguns, ammunition, and three vehicles, one of which were reported stolen in Winburg.

The six suspects will appear in the Welkom Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 27 July 2026.


Two, including scrapyard owner, arrested

Police find R10 m of Transnet property

NATIONAL: The South African Police Service (SAOS) have made a breakthrough against theft of state infrastructure when they arrested two people allegedly found in possession of Transnet property worth R10 million.

A multidisciplinary operation involving members of the Mount Ruth Rapid Rail Unit, Transnet and Ndevana SAPS led to the arrest of the two suspects earlier this month at Ndevana Location, outside Qonce in the Eastern Cape.

Acting on information received, the joint operational team conducted a search at a scrap metal dealership in Ndevana. Transnet officials positively identified several items belonging to the entity.

Among the items found were overhead track equipment, railway rails weighing approximately,  transformer batteries and copper.

The suspect, aged 25 and 35-years, were arrested at the dealership and charged with possession of suspected stolen property and contravention of the Criminal Matters Amendment Act 18 of 2015.

The suspects appeared before the Qonce Magistrate’s Court on 17 July 2026, where the 25-year-old accused was released on bail to allow for further investigation.

The 35-year-old owner of the scrap metal dealership was remanded in custody and is expected to appear before the same court again on 28 July 2026.


22-jarige man probeer weghardloop

Polisie vang gou wapen verdagte

MISDAADTONEEL: Mfuleni, Kaapstad: ‘n Jong man wat probeer ontsnap nadat hy na bewering ‘n vuurwapen weggegooi het, is gou ingehaal deur die lang arm van die gereg.

Die 22-jarige verdagte van Mfuleni het in die polisie sele beland vir die onwettige besit van ‘n vuurwapen en 36 rondtes ammunisie.

Volgens die Suid-Afrikaanse Polisiediens (SAPD) het die Misdaadvoorkomingseenheid van Mfuleni die verdagte op Woensdag, 22 Julie 2026 in Mhlathuzana-straat aangekeer.

Die SAPD het gesê die lede het drie manlike verdagtes op die hoek van Tokwanastraat sien staan.

“Toe hulle die verdagtes nader, het hulle in verskillende rigtings begin hardloop, en die lede het hulle te voet agternagesit. Een van die verdagtes het ‘n vuurwapen in ‘n erf in Mhlathuzana-straat gegooi en aangehou hardloop, maar die lede het hom ingehaal en gearresteer.

Lwandle, Strand: Lede van Operasie Lockdown 3 het ‘n 39-jarige man in Lwanje-straat gearresteer vir die besit van ‘n verbode vuurwapen en ammunisie.


Man (22) arrested for illegal gun, ammo

Long arm catches slow suspect

CRIME SCENE: Mfuleni, Cape Town: A young man tried to escape after allegedly throwing a firearm to the ground, but he was too slow for the long arm of the law.

The 22-year old suspect from Mfuleni instead landed in police custody for possession of a firearm and 36 rounds of ammunition.

According to the South African Police Service (SAPS) the Crime Prevention Unit of Mfuleni apprehended the suspect in Mhlathuzana Street on Wednesday, 22 July 2026.

SAPS said the members saw three male suspects standing at the corner of Tokwana Street.

“As they approached the suspects, they started running in different directions, and the members chased after them on foot. One of the suspects threw a firearm into a residence in Mhlathuzana Street and continued to run, but the members eventually caught him.

Lwandle, Strand: Operation Lockdown 3 arrested a 39-year-old man in Lwanje Street for possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition.


R1,5-miljoen-voertuig in Woodstock gesteel

Kaapse kar in Upington onderskep

MISDAADTONEEL: Upington, Noord-Kaap: ‘n Voertuig, ter waarde van R1.5 miljoen en wat in Woodstock, Kaapstad, gesteel is, is in die Noord-Kaap teruggevind.

Die K9-eenheid en Grenspolisie van Upington het Donderdag, 23 Julie 2026 omstreeks 07:30 die 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado teruggevind en ‘n 27-jarige verdagte gearresteer.

Die voertuig is ongeveer 12 ure tevore as gesteel in Woodstock aangemeld.

Volgens die Suid-Afrikaanse Polisiediens (SAPD) het toegewyde lede in Upington inligting van ‘n opsporingsmaatskappy ontvang, wat hulle na die voertuig naby die Upington sentrale sakegebied gelei het.

Die voertuig is onderskep en die bestuurder gearresteer.

Die Distrikskommissaris van die ZF Mgcawu-distrik, majoor-generaal Monica Sebili, het diegene wat betrokke was geprys vir hul vinnige reaksie, professionaliteit en toewyding.


SUV stolen in Woodstock 12 hours earlier

Upington cops intercept Cape vehicle

CRIME SCENE: Upington, Northern Cape: A vehicle, valued at R1.5 million and stolen in Woodstock, Cape Town, has been recovered in the Northern Cape.

The K9 Unit and Border Policing in Upington recovered the 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado and the arrested a 27-year-old suspect on Thursday, 23 July 2026, at about 07:30.

The vehicle was reported stolen in Woodstock about 12 hours earlier.

According to the South African Police Service (SAPS), dedicated members in Upington received information from a tracking company, which led them to the exact location of the vehicle near the Upington Central Business District.

The suspected stolen vehicle was intercepted and the driver was subsequently arrested.

The District Commissioner of the ZF Mgcawu District, Major General Monica Sebili, commended those involved for their swift response, professionalism, and commitment.
