Operation Prosper make 20 arrests in Hillview

Police find assault rifles, pistols

CRIME SCENE: Hillview, Cape Town: The police arrested three suspects on Thursday, 16 July 2026 following the discovery of an assault rifle and two pistols in Hillview near Lavender Hill.

According to the South African Police Service (SAPS), a cordon and search operation in Village Heights, Hillview was conducted by members of Operation Prosper on Thursday.

“While executing their duties at one address, members found three firearms, one of which had no serial number. They arrested two men, aged 21 and 22-years and a 42-year-old woman for possession of unlicensed firearms and possession of a prohibited firearm.

Additionally, a total of 17 illegal immigrants were apprehended in the area during the operation.

The suspects will make their first appearance in the Muizenberg Magistrate’s Court once they have been charged.

Rocklands: Members of Operation Lockdown 3 struck in Rocklands, Mitchells Plain on Thursday, 16 July when they recovered an assault rifle during a search at a house in Gladiator Street.

A 35-year-old male suspect was arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm and will appear in the Mitchells Plain Magistrate’s Court once he has been charged.

MISDAADTONEEL: Langrug, Franschhoek: Die Suid-Afrikaanse Polisiediens (SAPD) het vier verdagtes gearresteer ná ‘n noodlottige skietery vroeër hierdie week.

Volgens die SAPD het verskeie polisie-eenhede in die Wes-Kaap met die Franschhoek-polisie saamgewerk om verdagtes op te spoor wat verbind word met afpersing en afpersingsverwante moorde in die gebied.

Die operasie is in Langrug uitgevoer waar vier verdagtes, tussen 21 en 30-jaaroud, gearresteer en ‘n 9 mm-pistool met 10 rondtes ammunisie gekonfiskeer is.

Die verdagtes sal hulle eerste verskyning op Maandag 20 Julie 2026 in die Paarl-landdroshof maak.

Police arrest 4 suspects for Langrug murders

Breakthrough in Franschhoek killings

CRIME SCENE: Langrug, Franschhoek: The South African Police Service (SAPS) have made four arrests following the fatal shooting of four people earlier this week.

According to SAPS various police units in the Western Cape collaborated with Franschhoek police to trace suspects linked to extortion and extortion-related murders in the area.

The operation was conducted in Langrug where four suspects, aged between 21 and 30-years, were arrested and a 9mm pistol with 10 rounds of ammunition were confiscated.

The suspects will make their first appearance in the Paarl Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 20 July 2026.

MISDAADTONEEL: Mitchells Plain, Kaapstad: Die bestuur van die Suid-Afrikaanse Polisiediens (SAPD) in die Wes-Kaap het ‘n polisieman geprys nadat sy optrede gelei het tot die arrestasie van ‘n vrou vir omkopery en dwelms.

Volgens die SAPD het die lid van die Mitchells Plain Misdaadvoorkomingseenheid Woensdag, 15 Julie 2026 ‘n oproep ontvang van ‘n bendeleier wat tans ‘n vonnis in die Pollsmoor-gevangenis uitdien.

“Die bendeleier het versoek dat die lid dwelms by sy vrou afhaal en aan ‘n gevangene oorhandig wat in die Mitchells Plain-streeskhof verskyn. Hy het die lid ‘n kontantbetaling.

“Die lid het na die adres in Otland-straat, Westridge, gegaan. Met aankoms het die vrou hom ‘n pakkie met dagga, twee gram Tik, twee messe, vier sigaret aanstekers, ‘n pakkie sigarette en kontant oorhandig. Die 32-jarige vrou is onmiddellik in hegtenis geneem vir die besit van dwelms en omkopery.

“Ons prys die lid, wat die hoogste vlak van integriteit getoon het terwyl hy sy pliste uitgevoer het,” het die SAPD gesê.

Wesbank: Lede van die Mfuleni Misdaadvoorkomingseenheid het drie mans gearresteer vir die besit van ‘n verbode vuurwapen by Walmer Crescent, Wesbank.

Volgens die SAPD het hulle op inligting gereageer en die perseel deursoek. Drie mans is binne die huis gevind. Die polisie het ‘n 9 mm-pistool sonder reeksnommer en 14 rondtes ammunisie onder ‘n matras gevind en gekonfiskeer.

CRIME SCENE: Mitchells Plain, Cape Town: The management of the South African Police Service in the Western Cape has commended a policeman after his actions led to the arrest of a woman for bribery and drugs.

According to SAPS the member of the Mitchells Plain Crime Prevention Unit received a phone call on Wednesday, 15 July 2026 from a gang leader who is currently serving a sentence at Pollsmoor Prison.

“The gang leader requested that the member collect drugs from his wife and hand them over to an inmate appearing at the Mitchells Plain Regional Court. He also offered the member a cash payment for carrying out the request.

“The member proceeded to the address in Otland Street, Westridge. Upon arrival, the woman handed him a parcel containing dagga, two grams of tik, two knives, four cigarette lighters, a packet of cigarettes and cash. The 32-year-old woman was immediately arrested for possession of drugs and bribery.

“We commend the member, who demonstrated the highest level of integrity while carrying out his duties,” said SAPS.

Wesbank: Members of the Mfuleni Crime Prevention Unit arrested three men for possession of a prohibited firearm at Walmer Crescent, Wesbank. Acting on information received, members searched the premises and found three men inside the house. A 9mm pistol with the serial number removed and 14 rounds of ammunition were recovered from under a mattress and seized.

MISDAADTONEEL: Belhar, Kaapstad: Die polisie het ‘n 22-vrou hier gearresteer vir die besit van ‘n klomp Tik en Mandrax tablette.

Volgens die Suid-Afrikaanse Polisiediens (SAPD) het hulle ‘n huis in Avon Close, Belhar dopgehou nadat Misdaadintelligensie inligting oor onwettige aktiwiteite daar ontvang het.

Die polisie is op 15 Julie 2026 na die huis waar hulle ‘n 22-jarige vrou gevind het.

“Lede het die perseel deursoek. In een van die agterkamers het hulle ‘n swart inkopiesak met 120 sakkies Tik en 64 Mandrax-tablette gevind. Lede het op die dwelms beslag gelê en die vrou gearresteer,” het die SAPD gesê.

Langa: ‘n Vermeende afperser is gearresteer nadat hy na bewering spaza-winkel eienaar gedwing het hom geld aan hom te betaal.

Volgens die SAPD is die man gearresteer ná ‘n gesamentlike operasie tussen lede van Operasie Lockdown 3, Misdaadintelligensie en die Drone eenheid.

“Inligting is Dinsdag 14 Julie 2026 ontvang oor ‘n 21-jarige verdagte wat in Winnie Mandela-rylaan, Langa, woon en na bewering geaffilieer is aan ‘n berugte afpers-bende. Daar was ook vertel hy is in besit van vuurwapens.

“Die verdagte se bewegings is gemonitor terwyl hy in Langa rondgery om na bewering afpers-geld by spaza-winkels in te samel. Op Woensdag 15 Julie 2026, omstreeks 22:00, het die span op sy plek toegeslaan en die perseel deursoek. Hulle het twee pistole sonder reeksnommers en nege rondtes ammunisie teruggevind.

“Die verdagte is gearresteer vir die besit van verbode vuurwapens,” het die SAPD gesê.

Police arrest suspected extortionist

CRIME SCENE: Langa, Cape Town: A suspected extortionist was arrested after he allegedly collected protection money from spaza shops in the area.

According to the South African Police Force (SAPS) the arrest came after a joint operation between members of Operation Lockdown 3, Crime Intelligence and the Drone Unit.

“Information was received on Tuesday, 14 July 2026, about a 21-year-old suspect residing in Winnie Mandela Drive, Langa who was allegedly affiliated with a known extortion group and in possession of firearms.

“The suspect’s movements were monitored as he drove around Langa allegedly collecting protection fees from spaza shops. On Wednesday, 15 July 2026, at about 22:00, the team descended on his place and searched the premises. They recovered two pistols with serial numbers removed and nine rounds of ammunition.

“The suspect was arrested for possession of prohibited firearms,” said SAPS.

Belhar: In an unrelated incident on the same day, the police seized 120 sachets of Tik and 64 Mandrax tablets at a house in Avon Close, Belhar.

SAPS said the house had been under surveillance after Crime Intelligence received information about illegal activities.

“Members found a 22-year-old woman at the place and searched the premises. In one of the back rooms, they discovered a black shopping bag containing drugs and arrested the woman for possession of drugs,” said SAPS.

Volgens die SAPD is die Anti-Ekonomiese Misdaad- en Vervalste en Onwettige Goedere Polisiëring-spanne in Malmesbury ontplooi ná ‘n massa-skietery Sondag, 12 Julie 2026 waarin twee mense dood en agt ernstig beseer is.

Terwyl die polisie Woensdag, 15 Julie 2026 patrollies gedoen het, het hulle twee manlike persone van 16 en 17-jaar-oud in die straat opgemerk.

“Die verdagtes is deursoek en twee vuurwapens met reeksnommers wat verwyder is, is teruggevind. Een vuurwapen was gelaai met nege rondtes ammunisie en die ander met agt rondtes.

“Albei verdagtes is gearresteer vir die besit van verbode vuurwapens en die onwettige besit van ammunisie,” het die SAPD gesê.

CRIME SCENE: Malmesbury, Swartland: The South African Police Service (SAPS) have arrested to teenagers with illegal firearms.

According to SAPS the Anti-Economic Crime Task and the Counterfeit and Illicit Goods Policing Teams were deployed in Malmesbury following a mass shooting that claimed two lives and left eight people seriously injured on Sunday, 12 July 2026.

While conducting crime prevention duties on Wednesday, 15 July 2026, members spotted two males, aged 16 and 17-years, in the street.

“The suspects were searched and two firearms with serial numbers removed were recovered. One firearm was loaded with nine rounds of ammunition, while the other contained eight rounds.

“Both suspects were arrested for possession of prohibited firearms and unlawful possession of ammunition,” said SAPS.

Konstabel Ndakhe Gwala, ‘n skakelbeampte vir die Wes-Kaapse polisie, het die voorval bevestig en gesê die Steenberg-polisie het ‘n saak van moord en drie aanklagte van poging tot moord geregistreer.

Die slagoffers was deel van ‘n groep wat ‘n gedenkdiens op ‘n oop veld in Beethoven-straat, Retreat, op Woensdagaand, 15 Julie 2026 bygewoon het.

“Volgens berigte was die slagoffers besig om die diens omstreeks 20:40 te verlaat toe ‘n wit Mercedes Benz AMG met ‘n swart dak daar stilhou.

“Vyf verdagtes het uit die voertuig geklim en op die mense geskiet. ‘n 24-jarige man is noodlottig gewond, terwyl drie slagoffers van drie, 18 en 40-jaar-oud gewond is.

“Die motief vir die skietery word ondersoek en geen arrestasies is in hierdie stadium gemaak nie,” het Gwala gesê.
