Man dies, three, including toddler, injured

CRIME SCENE: Retreat, Cape Town: Four people, including a toddler, have been shot at a memorial service here.

Constable Ndakhe Gwala, a media liaison officer for the Western Cape police, confirmed the incident and said Steenberg police registered a case of murder and three counts of attempted murder.

The victims were part of a group who attended a memorial service on an open field in Beethoven Street, Retreat on Wednesday, 15 July 2026 at about 20:40.

“According to reports the victims were preparing to leave the service when a white Mercedes Benz AMG with black roof stopped there.

“Five suspects emerged from the vehicle and shot at the attendees. A 24-year-old male was fatally wounded while three victims aged three, 18 and 40-years were wounded.

“The motive for the shooting is being investigated and no arrest has been made at this stage,” said Gwala.

Thembakazi Mpendukana, ‘n skakelbeampte vir die Wes-Kaapse polisie, sê die Steenberg-polisie het ‘n moordsaak geopen na die voorval wat omstreeks 12:20 in Fawley-hof, Lavender Hill, plaasgevind het.

“Die polisie het ‘n 28-jarige manlike slagoffer op die grond gevind met skietwonde aan sy bolyf. Hy is deur mediese personeel op die toneel dood verklaar.

Thembakazi Mpendukana, a media liaison officer for the Western Cape police, said Steenberg police opened a murder case following the incident that happened at Fawley Court, Lavender Hill at about 12:20.

“Police reports state that the members found a 28-year-old male victim lying on the ground with gunshot wounds on his upper body. He was declared deceased by medical personnel on the scene and the motive is currently unknown.

“The detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding this incident and no arrest has been made yet,” said Mpendukana.

CRIME SCENE: Nyanga, Cape Town: Police in the Western Cape are offering a cash reward of up to R50 000 for information of a murder investigation.

According to the South African Police Service (SAPS) Nyanga police responded to a shooting incident on 29 June 2026 at about 15:45, during which Bashira Issaka (35), a Ghanaian national, was shot and killed inside his red container business premises by suspects who were allegedly demanding a protection fee.

According to SAPS the investigating officer is pursuing all available leads to bring the perpetrators to justice and is appealing to the community for assistance. The identities of those who provide information will remain anonymous. A cash reward is offered for information leading to the successful arrest and conviction of the suspects.

Thieves cause significant damage power lines

CRIME SCENE: Somerset West, Helderberg: Power to Somerset Mall and surrounding areas should be restored by early evening on Wednesday, 15 July 2026.

The area has been without electricity for more than three days after thieves caused damage to high voltage electrical infrastructure.

According to Eskom the damage has disrupted power supply to the shopping centre and nearby industrial areas. Its technical teams have been working continuously to repair the damaged infrastructure and restore electricity as quickly and safely as possible.

The estimated time of restoration for is 18:00 on Wednesday.

People with information about infrastructure theft are encouraged to report it anonymously to Eskom’s toll-free crime hotline on 0800 11 27 22 or their nearest South African Police Service (SAPS) station.

JONGSTE! Speurders van die anti-bende-eenheid, wat reg deur die bank werk sedert ‘n noodlottige skietvoorval in Wesbank, Malmesbury, het nog twee verdagtes van 26 en 32-jaar-oud, gearresteer.

Dit bring die aantal arrestasies op drie te staan, dae nadat die aanval plaasgevind het.

Die eerste verdagte van 27-jaar-oud, het Dinsdag, 14 Julie 2026 in die Malmesbury-landdroshof verskyn. Die twee jongste verdagtes sal na verwagting Woensdag, 15 Julie 2026 in die hof verskyn.

Volgens die Suid-Afrikaanse Polisiediens (SAPD) dui voorlopige ondersoeke daarop die drie verdagtes is gekoppel aan ‘n plaaslike bende wat in die Malmesbury-gebied bedrywig is.

Volgens die SAPD is ‘n agste persoon ook sedert die voorval by die gewondes gevoeg.

“Ondersoekbeamptes gaan voort om elke beskikbare leidraad op te volg terwyl hulle werk om agter die kap van die byl te kom. Die vinnige vordering wat in die saak gemaak is, weerspieël die vasberadenheid van die ondersoekspan om diegene wat verantwoordelik is te identifiseer en verseker dat hulle voor die howe gebring word,” het die SAPD gesê.

MISDAADTONEEL: Wesbank, Malmesbury: Die Suid-Afrikaanse Polisiediens (SAPD) het ‘n 27-jarige verdagte gearresteer in verband met ‘n massaskietery hier.

Die verdagte is Maandag, 13 Julie 2026 gearresteer en sal na verwagting Dinsdag 14 Julie 2026 in die Malmesbury-landdroshof verskyn op aanklagte wat verband hou met die skiet-aanval op nege mense.

Die polisie ondersoek twee aanklagte van moord en sewe aanklagte van poging tot moord ná die skietery in die vroeë oggendure van Sondag, 12 Julie 2026.

Die polisie het omstreeks 04:40 op die voorval in Godetia-straat gereageer, waar hulle die liggame van ‘n 22-jarige man en ‘n 21-jarige vrou gevind het wat noodlottige skietwonde opgedoen het.

Ses volwassenes en ‘n baba is gewond en in die hospitaal opgeneem vir mediese behandeling. Die baba is later na die Rooi Kruis-kinderhospitaal oorgeplaas. Die gewondes is in ‘n stabiele toestand, het die SAPD gesê.

“Voorlopige ondersoeke dui daarop dat ‘n groep mense buite ‘n woning was toe onbekende verdagtes op hulle losgebrand het. Bewyse op die toneel dui daarop dat meer as een aanvaller moontlik by die aanval betrokke was.

“Die moontlikheid dat die voorval bendeverwant is, word ondersoek.

“Na die voorval is polisiëring in die gebied versterk om verdere geweld en enige moontlike vergeldingsaanvalle te voorkom,” het die SAPD gesê.

UPDATE! Anti-Gang-Unit detectives, who have been working around the clock since a fatal shooting incident in Wesbank, Malmesbury, have arrested two more suspects, aged 26 and 32-years-old.

This brings the number of arrests to three, marking a significant breakthrough in the investigation only days after the attack occurred, said the South African Police Service (SAPS)

The first suspect, aged 27, appeared before the Malmesbury Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 14 July 2026. The two latest suspects are expected to appear in court on Wednesday, 15 July 2026.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the three suspects are linked to a local gang operating in the Malmesbury area, .

Another person has since been added to the wounded, bringing the total number of injuries to eight people.

“Investigators continue to pursue every available lead as they work to uncover the full circumstances surrounding the attack. The swift progress made in the case reflects the determination of the investigating team to identify those responsible and ensure that they are brought before the courts,” said SAPS.

CRIME SCENE: Wesbank, Malmesbury: The South African Police Service (SAPS) have arrested a 27-year-old suspect in connection with a mass shooting incident here.

The suspect was arrested on Monday, 13 July 2026, and is expected to appear in the Malmesbury Magistrates Court on Tuesday, 14 July 2026, on charges relating to the shooting of nine people.

The police are investigating two counts of murder and seven counts of attempted murder following the shooting during the early hours of Sunday, 12 July 2026.

Police responded to the incident at approximately 04:40 in Godetia Street, where they found the bodies of a 22-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman who had sustained fatal gunshot wounds.

Six adults and an infant were injured in the shooting and were admitted to hospital for medical treatment. The infant was subsequently transferred to Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital. The injured victims are in a stable condition, said SAPS.

“Preliminary investigations indicate that a group of people were outside a residence when unknown suspects opened fire on them. Evidence recovered at the scene suggests that more than one assailant may have been involved in the attack.

“The possibility that the incident may be gang-related is being investigated.

“In the wake of the incident, policing in the area has been reinforced to prevent further violence and any possible retaliatory attacks,” said SAPS.

MISDAADTONEEL: Grabouw: Die polisie het Donderdag 9 Julie 2026 ‘n 60-jarige man gearresteer en Mandrax ter waarde van R2,1 miljoen op die N2-snelweg gekonfiskeer.

‘n Multidissiplinêre span, bestaande uit die Valke se Suid-Afrikaanse Narkotika Buro (SANAB), provinsiale verkeer van Caledon en die Kaapstad-polisie se K9-eenheid, het op inligting gereageer en ‘n roetine-voertuigkontrolepunt op die N2 in Grabouw opgesit.

Volgens ‘n Valke-woordvoerder, luitenant-kolonel Siyabulela Vukubi, is ‘n silwer Audi voorgekeer en die K9-narkotiese hond het positief gereageer toe hy begin suffel.

“Die voertuig is deusoek en Mandrax ter waarde van R2,1 miljoen is in ‘n versteekte kompartement gevind. ‘n 60-jarige manlike verdagte is gearresteer en verskyn Maandag 13 Julie 2026 in die Grabouw-landdroshof,” het Vukubi gesê.

UPDATE! The 60-year-old Bradley Cecil Jasmin appeared in court on Monday morning, 13 July 2026 in connection with a drug bust on the N2 highway in Grabouw. The matter was postponed to 22 July 2026 for a formal bail application.

CRIME SCENE: Grabouw: A 60-year-old man was arrested and Mandrax to the value of R2,1million confiscated on the N2 highway on Thursday, 9 July 2026.

A multi-disciplinary team comprising the Hawks’ South African Narcotics Enforcement Bureau (SANEB), Provincial Traffic based in Caledon and the Cape Town police K9 unit acted on intelligence when they conducted a routine vehicle check point on the N2 in Grabouw.

According to a Hawks spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Siyabulela Vukubi, a silver Audi was randomly stopped and the K9 narcotic dog reacted positively to what was in the car.

“Upon further search, Mandrax to the value of R2,1million were found in a hidden compartment. A 60 -year-old male suspect was arrested and is due to appear in the Grabouw Magistrates Court on Monday, 13 July 2026,” said Lieutenant Colonel Vukubi.
