CRIME SCENE: Bellville, Cape Town: A 54-year-old Nigerian national has been arrested after police allegedly found him with a stash of drugs in his possession.
According to the South African Police Service (SAPS) Operation Lockdown 3 members arrested the man on Tuesday, 17 August 2026, for the possession of drugs and bribery.
“The members followed up information about drugs at a premises in Parksig, Bellville. They searched the premises and found 148,3 grams of crystal meth (Tik), 31 small packets containing crystal meth, 140 Mandrax tablets, a plastic packet containing Mandrax powder and uncut crystal meth.
“The suspect offered the members R5 000 in cash for his release. He also faces a charge in terms of the Immigration Act,” said SAPS.

MISDAADTONEEL: Tweeling, Vrystaat: ‘n 40-jarige man is deur die polisie doodgeskiet kort nadat hy Dinsdag, 18 Augustus 2026 sy eks-meisie geskiet het.
Volgens inligting het die 36-jarige vrou omstreeks 17:45 haar werk verlaat en na ‘n plek gegaan van waar sy huistoe sou ryloop.
Die Suid-Afrikaanse Polisiediens (SAPD) sê sy het kort daarna in ‘n wit motorvoertuig geklim, onwetend dat haar eks-kêrel reeds binne was.
Toe die voertuig in 10de-Straat, Tweeling stilhou, het albei uitgeklim. Die man het haar na bewering gegryp en in die kop geskiet. Die verdagte het toe van die toneel gevlug, sê SAPS.
Getuies het die polisie onmiddellik in kennis gestel en inligting verskaf oor die verdagte se bewegings.
“Twee polisie voertuie, een van die Eenheid vir Gesinsgeweld, Kinderbeskerming en Seksuele Oortredings (FCS) en een van Tweeling se sigbare polisiëring, het vinnig gereageer en die verdagte opgespoor waar hy besig was om duim te gooi.
“Die FCS lede, wat in ‘n Mahindra-voertuig gereis het en in privaat klere was, het langs hom stilgehou. Die verdagte het die voertuig genader, blykbaar in die veronderstelling dat die insittendes hom ‘n saamry-geleentheid wou aanbied.
“Terwyl hy met die FCS lede gepraat het, het die verdagte die sigbare polisiëringsvoertuig met uniformlede agter die Mahindra sien stilhou,” het die SAPD gesê.
Die man het na bewering ‘n vuurwapen uitgepluk en op die uniform lede losgebrand. Die lede in die Mahindra het onmiddellik reageer en die verdagte is noodlottig gewond.
‘n Moordsaak is geopen in verband met die noodlottige skietery van die 36-jarige vrou. ‘n Geregtelike doodsondersoek is ook geregistreer rakende die dood van die 40-jarige verdagte, het SAPS gesê.
Die Provinsiale Kommissaris van die Vrystaat, Luitenant-generaal Thabang Lesia, het die wrede moord veroordeel en kommer uitgespreek oor die baie voorvalle wat verband hou met gesinsgeweld. Hy het verder die lede van die publiek wat die polisie onmiddellik in kennis gestel het en inligting verskaf het om die verdagte op te spoor, geprys vir hulle bydrae.
Man shot dead after killing ex-girlfriend

CRIME SCENE: Tweeling, Free State: A 40-year-old man was shot dead by police shortly after shooting and killing his ex-girlfriend on Tuesday, 18 August 2026.
According to the preliminary information, the 36-year-old woman finished work at approximately 17:45 and proceeded towards a hiking spot.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) said she got into a white motor vehicle, unaware that her former boyfriend was already inside.
When the vehicle reached 10th Street in Tweeling, both got out and the man allegedly grabbed her and shot her in the head at close range. The suspect then fled the scene.
Witnesses immediately alerted the police and provided information regarding the suspect’s movements.
“Two police vehicles, one from the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) and another from Tweeling Visible Policing, responded swiftly and pursued the suspect.
“The suspect was subsequently spotted hitchhiking. The FCS Unit members, travelling in a Mahindra vehicle and dressed in civilian clothing, stopped alongside him. The suspect approached the vehicle, apparently believing that the occupants were offering him a lift.
“As he engaged with the members, the suspect noticed the second police vehicle with uniformed members, stopping behind the Mahindra,” said SAPS.
The man allegedly drew a firearm and opened fire on the uniformed members. The members in the Mahindra immediately responded and the suspect was fatally wounded during the ensuing exchange of gunfire.
A murder case has been opened in connection with the fatal shooting of the 36-year-old woman. An inquest docket has also been registered regarding the death of the 40-year-old suspect.
The Provincial Commissioner of the Free State, Lieutenant General Thabang Lesia, has condemned the brutal killing and expressed concern over the escalation of domestic violence-related incidents. He further commended the members of the public who immediately alerted the police and provided information that assisted in locating the suspect.

MISDAADTONEEL: Muizenberg, Kaapstad: Die Suid-Afrikaanse Polisiediens (SAPD) soek inligting wat kan help met die ondersoek na ‘n vermeende reeksverkragter en rower in die Muizenberg-gebied.
Volgens die SAPD staan ’n 35-jarige man tans tereg op aanklagte wat verband hou met sewe verkragtings- en roofsake wat tussen 2023 en 2026 by die Muizenberg-polisiestasie aangemeld is. Die beskuldigde is met die sake verbind deur DNS-analise, foto-identifikasie en ooreenkomste in sy modus operandi,
Die SAPD het gesê die beskuldigde het na bewering sosiale media en WhatsApp-groepe gebruik om vroue te lok onder die valse voorwendsel van ‘n werk of verhouding. Die vroue is na bewering aangemoedig om hom in die Capricorn/Muizenberg-gebied te ontmoet, waar hy hulle oor ‘n oop veld sou lei voordat hy hulle na bewering verkrag en beroof het.
Die verdagte is op 15 Februarie 2026 gearresteer en bly in aanhouding nadat borgtog geweier is. Hy moet weer op 20 Augustus 2026 in die hof verskyn.
Die SAPD glo dat daar ander slagoffers mag wees wat nog nie voorvalle aangemeld het nie. Enigiemand wat moontlik deur die beskuldigde geviktimiseer is, of wat inligting het wat die ondersoek kan help, word versoek om na vore te kom.

Alleged serial rapist face seven charges
Police seeking info in rape cases
CRIME SCENE: Muizenberg, Cape Town: The South African Police Service (SAPS) is looking for information that can help in the investigation of an alleged serial rapist and robber in the Muizenberg-area.
According to SAPS a 35-year-old man is currently facing charges relating to seven rape and robbery cases reported at the Muizenberg police station between 2023 and 2026. The accused has been linked to the cases through DNA analysis, photo identification and similarities in his modus operandi.
SAPS said the accused allegedly used social media and WhatsApp groups to lure women under the pretext of meeting for work or a relationship. The women were allegedly encouraged to meet him in the Capricorn/Muizenberg area, where he would lead them across an open field before allegedly using violence against them and committing rape and robbery.
The suspect was arrested on 15 February 2026 and remains in custody after bail was denied. He is due to appear in court again on 20 August 2026.
SAPS believe there may be other victims who have not yet reported incidents. Anyone who may have been victimised by the accused, or who has information that could assist the investigation, is urged to come forward.
