Raid brings success for cops
CRIME SCENE: Eerste River, Cape Town: The Anti-Economic Crime Task Team continued to clamp down on drug networks in the Cape Flats with an early morning raid on Tuesday, 25 August 2026.
According to the South African Police Service (SAPS) the Task Team worked in collaboration with the Provincial Counterfeit and Illicit Goods Unit when they seized 340 mandrax tablets in Kleinvlei, Eerste River.
“The teams acted on intelligence and conducted a search at a house in Spandau Road where they found a 38-year-old male suspect. A total of 340 mandrax tablets with an estimated street value of R20 000 were confiscated. The suspect was arrested for possession of drugs,” said SAPS..
Manenberg: The Anti-Gang-Unit arrested a 43-year-old alleged gangster for possession of a prohibited firearm in Manenberg.
The Unit was doing patrols when they received information about a firearm at a house in Rhone Walk. They recovered a firearm without a serial number at the house.

MISDAADTONEEL: Wittebome, Kaapstad: ‘n Jong winkel-eienaar is Dinsdagmiddag, 25 Augustus 2026 gewond en sy vriend is dood in ‘n skietvoorval voor sy winkel.
Volgens die polisie het die 36-jarige eienaar van ‘n tekkie winkel buite met sy vriend gesit toe ‘n onbekende man hulle nader en op hulle losbrand.
Konstabel Ndakhe Gwala, ‘n Wes-Kaapse polisiewoordvoerder, sê die voorval het omstreeks 12:00 in Exeter-weg, Wittebome, plaasgevind.
“Ons kan bevestig Wynberg-speurders ondersoek sake van moord en poging tot moord on ná die skietery in Exeter-weg.
“Die 36-jarige eienaar het in die winkel gehardloop terwyl sy 31-jarige vriend na die straat gehardloop het. Die vriend het verskeie skietwonde in sy maag opgedoen en op die toneel aan die beserings beswyk.
“Die motief vir die aanval word ondersoek en geen arrestasie is in hierdie stadium gemaak nie,” het Gwala gesê.
Gunman wounds owner, kills friend
Murder at sneaker shop
CRIME SCENE: Wittebome, Cape Town: A young business owner was wounded and his friend killed during a shooting incident in front of his shop on Tuesday afternoon, 25 August 2026.
According to reports, a 36-year-old male, who is the owner of a sneaker shop, was sitting outside with his friend when an unknown male sneaked up to them and opened fire.
Constable Ndakhe Gwala, a media liaison officer for the Western Cape police, said the incident happened at about noon in Exeter Road, Wittebome.
“This office confirms that Wynberg detectives are investigating a case of murder and attempted murder following the shooting in Exeter Road.
“The 36-year-old owner ran inside the shop while his 31-year-old friend ran to the street. The friend sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his stomach and succumbed to the injuries at the scene.
“The motive for the attack is a subject of police investigation and no arrest has been made at this stage,” said Gwala.

MISDAADTONEEL: Gordonsbaai: Twee mans is gearresteer vir die onwettige besit van perlemoen ná ‘n wenk van die publiek.
Metro-polisiebeamptes van die Stad Kaapstad het Maandag 24 Augustus 2026 omstreeks 09:30 inligting ontvang oor ‘n grys Toyota Tazz wat in die rigting van Gordonsbaai ry met perlemoen.
Volgens die Stad se burgemeester-komiteelid vir Veiligheid en Sekuriteit het die beamptes die motor op die hoek van Faure Marine- en Sir Lowry’s Pass-rylaan afgetrek.
“Die bestuurder het ingestem dat die motor deursoek kan word en beamptes het vier sakke, 489 onskulpte perlemoen in die kattebak gevind,” het Smith gesê.
Die verdagtes, tussen 30 en 34-jaar-oud, is gearresteer vir die onwettige besit van perlemoen.
Dit is die derde keer in ses weke dat die metropolisie verdagtes met groot getalle onwettige perlemoen aankeer, volgens Smith.
Op Dinsdag, 14 Julie 2026 het beamptes drie verdagtes, tussen die ouderdomme van 27 en 34-jaar, vir die besit van 223 ontskulpte perlemoen en 279 perlemoen in skulpe langs Victoria-weg in Kampsbaa gearresteeri.
Drie dae later is vier verdagtes, tussen die ouderdomme van 19 en 33-jaar, in Clovelly-weg, Vishoek vir die besit van perlemoen van byna 90 kilogram, gearresteer.
Suspects shoot taxi driver as commuters watch

CRIME SCENE: N2 Highway, Cape Town: Commuters watched in horror as a taxi driver was gunned down near the Borchards Quarry turn-off on the N2 on Tuesday morning, 25 August 2026.
Constable Ndakhe Gwala, a media liaison officer for the Western Cape plice, said Gugulethu police registered a case of murder following the shooting incident at about 10:58.
“According to reports, the deceased who was identified as a 27-year-old taxi driver, was chased by two unknown suspects from Kanana Informal Settlement.
“He was shot in his head and declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel. The motive for the attack is believed to be related to taxi violence. No arrest has been made yet at this stage,” said Gwala.

Gunmen shoot arrested suspects
CRIME SCENE: Cato Manor, Kwazulu-Natal: Two alleged cash-in-transit-robbers were wounded by their partners in crime in a bizarre incident on Monday night.
The action started while police in Cato Manor were conducting routine crime prevention and stop-and-search duties when they spotted a silver Toyota Etios parked in Raymond Road.
According to the South African Police Service (SAPS) the members approached the vehicle and found two occupants inside.
“A subsequent search led to the recovery of an AK-47 assault rifle and four fully loaded magazines inside the vehicle. The two suspects were duly arrested.
“While driving along Dunbar Road to take the suspects to a police station, they were followed by two vehicles, a white Toyota double cab and a white Toyota Corolla Cross.
“The arrested suspects warned the police officers to drive off because the occupants of those vehicles were going to shoot at them. They also informed the police that they were waiting on those vehicles to deliver another AK-47 for a cash-in-transit robbery that was planned for Tuesday, 25 August 2026,” said SAPS.
Just as the police started speeding off, they came under heavy gunfire from the occupants of the two vehicles.
Police said there were several members of the public in the vicinity which prevented them from returning fire.
“Instead, police drove tactically until they found refuge at a police station. The two arrested suspects sustained gunshot wounds and were rushed to hospital, where they are recovering under police guard,” said SAPS.
Police in Kwazulu-Natal have launched a manhunt for the suspects.

Third bust in six weeks for Metro Cops
Abalone suspects arrested
CRIME SCENE: Gordon’s Bay: Two men have been arrested for the illegal possession of abalone following a tip-off from the public.
Metro Police officers from the City of Cape Town received information at approximately 09:30 on Monday, 24 August 2026 about a grey Toyota Tazz traveling in the direction of Gordon’s Bay, transporting abalone.
According to the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security the officers spotted the car at the corner of Faure Marine and Sir Lowry’s Pass Drive.
“The driver consented to a search of the vehicle and officers found four bags in the boot, containing 489 unshucked abalone,” said Smith.
The suspects, aged 30 and 34-years were arrested for Illegal Possession of Abalone and detained at Gordon’s Bay SAPS. The vehicle was taken to the SAPS Stikland Vehicle Impound.
This is the third abalone bust in transit for Metro Police in the last six weeks, according to Smith
On Tuesday, 14 July 2026, officers arrested three suspects, aged between 27 and 34-years for possession of 223 unshucked abalone and 279 shucked abalone along Victoria Road in Camps Bay.
Three days later they arrested four suspects, aged between 19 and 33-years for possession of abalone weighing nearly 90 kilograms, on Clovelly Road in Fish Hoek.
