CRIME SCENE: Bloemfontein, Free State: Police are searching for two suspects following an incident involving two 21-year-old students, one of whom was almost sexually assaulted.

The incident happened in the Memorial Road area near the cemetery in Bloemfontein on 21 September 2026, according to the South African Police Service (SAPS).

The two victims were walking in the Uitsig area when they were robbed of their personal belongings. The female victim was allegedly forced into nearby bushes, where she fought off the suspect before running for help. A passer-by stopped to assist her.

The incident was reported at Park Road Police Station and a case of attempted sexual offence and robbery with a weapon other than a firearm has been registered.

SAPS said the matter was currently under investigation and no arrests had yet been made.
