UPDATE! The death toll in N2 accident near Heidelberg have reached five, the police have confirmed. The people who had been travelling in the motor vehicle were a family of four. The father (42) and mother (43) died on the scene, while their two sons, aged 13 and 20, died in hospital. The fifth casualty was a passenger in the minibus, a 34-year-old woman.

ACCIDENT SCENE: At least three people have died and 14 injured in a crash on the N2 near Heidelberg on Tuesday morning, 7 July 2026.

The crash happened between a minibus and motor vehicle in the direction of Swellendam at about 10:00, according to sources at the scene.

The Western Cape’s Chief Director for Traffic Management, Maxine Bezuidenhoud, confirmed that three people were declared dead on the scene.

Heidelberg police have opened a case of culpable homicide.

Bezuidenhoud urged road users to drive with caution in the area.
