Police foil firearms deal

CRIME SCENE: Pelican Heights, Cape Town: The South African Police Service’s (SAPS) National Intervention Unit (NIU) have arrested a woman and two men when they were found with an AK47 assault rifle and a box of ammunition.

The NIU on Wednesday, 08 July 2026 at 19:50 responded to information that firearms are to be sold in Pelican Heights near Strandfontein.

According to SAPS an operation was put into place and the two vehicles were pulled over at Seagull Street and searched.

“They found an AK 47 without a serial number and a box with a large amount of ammunition in a Hyundai vehicle.

Three suspects including a 27-year-old female and two males aged 38 and 42-years were arrested for possession of a prohibited firearm and illegal possession of ammunition. The case will be investigated by the Provincial Detectives Organised Crime. The suspects are due to appear in the Muizenberg Magistrates court once charged.

CRIME SCENE: Knysna, Southern Cape: The police have arrested two men for a double murder in this popular holiday town.

According to the South African Police Service (SAPS) on Monday, 6 July 2026 at about 06:00 two men were dragged from a shack near Mbetane Street, Khayalethu in Knysna.

SAPS said the pair was taken to Bongani, Knysna where they were assaulted. Both victims, aged 33 and 44-years-old sustained serious injuries and were transported Knysna Provincial Hospital, where both later died.

The suspects aged 33 and 42-years were arrested on Thursday, 9 July 2026 and were expected to make their first court appearance in the Knysna Magistrates court on Friday, 10 July 2026.

The suspects, remains in police custody and are each facing two counts of murder and kidnapping. SAPS said the investigation into the matter continues and more suspects could be arrested.

The crash happened between a minibus and motor vehicle in the direction of Swellendam at about 10:00, according to sources at the scene.

The Western Cape’s Chief Director for Traffic Management, Maxine Bezuidenhoud, confirmed that three people were declared dead on the scene.

Heidelberg police have opened a case of culpable homicide.

Bezuidenhoud urged road users to drive with caution in the area.

Volgens ‘n Valke-woordvoerder, luitenant-kolonel Siyabulela Vukubi, is ‘n silwer Audi voorgekeer en die K9-narkotiese hond het positief gereageer toe hy begin suffel.

CRIME SCENE: Grabouw: A 60-year-old man was arrested and Mandrax to the value of R2,1million confiscated on the N2 highway on Thursday, 9 July 2026.

A multi-disciplinary team comprising the Hawks’ South African Narcotics Enforcement Bureau (SANEB), Provincial Traffic based in Caledon and the Cape Town police K9 unit acted on intelligence when they conducted a routine vehicle check point on the N2 in Grabouw.

According to a Hawks spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Siyabulela Vukubi, a silver Audi was randomly stopped and the K9 narcotic dog reacted positively to what was in the car.

“Upon further search, Mandrax to the value of R2,1million were found in a hidden compartment. A 60 -year-old male suspect was arrested and is due to appear in the Grabouw Magistrates Court on Monday, 13 July 2026,” said Lieutenant Colonel Vukubi.
