Drugs and cash seized during operations

Namakwa cops nab alleged dealers

CRIME SCENE: Namakwa District, Northern Cape: Two suspected drug dealers in their 40s have been arrested in two separate incidents

The South African Police Service (SAPS) in the Namakwa District said it continued to intensify its fight against drug-related crime through intelligence-driven operations aimed at dismantling local drug networks.

On Friday, 7 August 2026, members of the Namakwa District Task Team, supported by Namakwa Crime Intelligence, conducted two successful search-and-seizure operations in Leliefontein and Kharkams.

“During the early hours of the morning, police executed a search operation at the residence of a suspected drug dealer in Leliefontein, where drugs and cash were confiscated. A 43-year-old man was arrested on charges of dealing in drugs and is expected to appear in court soon,” said SAPS.

In a follow-up operation at approximately 6:40 in Kharkams, a search was executed at the premises of another suspected drug dealer. Police confiscated drugs and cash, which is believed to be the proceeds of illegal drug sales.

“A 46-year-old male was arrested on charges of dealing in drugs and is expected to appear in the Springbok Magistrate’s Court soon,” said SAPS.

The District Commissioner of SAPS Namakwa, Brigadier Schalk Andrews, commended the members of the Namakwa District Task Team and Namakwa Crime Intelligence for “their professionalism, dedication, and relentless efforts in combating drug-related crime”.
