CRIME SCENE:Newfields, Cape Town: A teenager was killed and a woman wounded in a shooting incident here on Tuesday night, 25 August 2026.
A media liaison officer for the Western CApe police, Captain FC Van Wyk, said Philippi police registered a murder and an attempted murder case following the incident which happened at 19:30 on an open field next in Surran Road, Newfields.
“A 17-year-old male was shot and fatally wounded and a 35-year-old female injured.
The teenager sustained gunshot wounds to his abdomen and shoulder, and the woman was shot in her back.
“The motive is believed to be gang related. The suspect/s fled the scene and are yet to be arrested,” said Van Wyk.

Die man is vasgekeer tydens ‘n stop-en-deursoek-operasie Dinsdag 25 Augustus 202 op die N2 in Riviersonderend, waar dwelms ter waarde van nagenoeg R11 miljoen ontdek is.
Volgens die Suid-Afrikaanse Polisiediens (SAPD) het die polisie ‘n swart Nissan Tida omstreeks 22:35 tydens die operasie voorgekeer.
“Met die deursoeking van die voertuig het die polisie 87 pakkies Mandrax-tablette, 16 pakkies ongesnyde crystal meth (Tik) en twee blokke kokaïen in die kattebak gevind.
“‘n 37-jarige buitelandse man is gearresteer vir die besit van dwelms,” het die SAPD gesê.

CRIME SCENE: Riviersonderend, Overberg: A foreign national’s alleged drug trafficking has ended abruptly in this small town.
The man was trapped during a vehicle stop-and-search operation on the N2 in Riviersonderend, where drugs worth an estimated R11 million was discovered on Tuesday, 25 August 2026.
According to the South African Police Service (SAPS), police stopped a black Nissan Tida at about 22:35 during the operation.
“Upon searching the vehicle, police found 87 packets of Mandrax tablets, 16 packets of uncut crystal meth and two blocks of cocaine in the boot.
“A 37-year-old foreign national male was arrested for possession of drugs,” said SAPS
R200 m worth of cocaine seized at OR Tambo Internation

CRIME SCENE: OR Tambo International Airport, Gauteng: The South African Police Service (SAPS) have confiscated a huge amount of cocaine here.
On Tuesday, 25 August 2026, South African Police Service (SAPS) members attached to OR Tambo International and other law enforcement authorities, including Customs officials, intercepted two separate consignments of cocaine.
In the first incident, two large travel suitcases were intercepted at the airport terminal. The suitcases contained blocks of suspected cocaine weighing approximately 84 kilograms.
In a separate interception at the cargo section, four boxes containing approximately 250 kilograms of suspected cocaine, packed into 220 blocks, were seized.
The combined estimated street value of the seized cocaine is more than R200 million.
No arrests have been made at this stage. Investigations are underway to identify and apprehend those responsible for the importation and distribution of the drugs.
The Acting National Commissioner of SAPS, Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane, has commended the multidisciplinary team for its vigilance and continued efforts to disrupt drug trafficking through the country’s major international entry points.
“These successes send a strong message that we will not allow South Africa to be used as a transit point or market for illicit drugs. We will continue working with our law enforcement partners to detect, intercept and dismantle drug trafficking networks,” said Dimpane.

Police captain killed on duty
CRIME SCENE: Knysna, Southern Cape: The senseless killings are continuing unabated in this pristine and once peaceful holiday town.
The latest victim is a police captain whose death has left his colleagues in the Western Cape in shock.
The captain was killed in the early hours of Wednesday, 26 August 2026 in a shootout with a suspect during an operation in Knysna.
The 50-year-old captain was attached to the Provincial Tactical Response Team and deployed in the area as part of investigations into the murder of councillor and former mayor of Knysna, Aubrey Tsengwa, as well as two others, Mandla Matiwane and Mandla Tyololo, in separate shooting incidents last week.
At the time of the captain’s death, the SAPS integrated team was executing an operation following up on information about illegal firearms at the Sewende Laan informal settlement on Uniondale Road.
The 38-year-old suspect also died in the shootout. Two firearms were found in his possession.
According to the South African Police Services (SAPS) psychosocial support is currently being provided to the police team at the scene, as well as to the captain’s colleagues in Cape Town.
Three suspects appeared in court for Tsengwa’s murder, with investigations ongoing into the murders of Matiwane and Tyololo.
Western Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Sizakhele Dyantyi, has conveyed condolences to the family and colleagues of the deceased police official.
