Child trafficker gets life
FROM THE COURTS: A Zimbabwean man who lived with a 12-year-old girl as his wife in Robertson, has been sentenced to life imprisonment by the Worcester Regional Court.
David Chauke (33) was sentenced on Monday, 14 September 2026 for Trafficking in Persons and other related offenses after he was convicted on 16 April 2026.
The case started in November 2020 when information was received about the girl who was living with an adult male as his wife. The matter was reported to the Hawks for probing, which led to the arrest of Chauke in November 2020.
He faced, amongst others, a charge of trafficking in persons for which he received a life imprisonment. On a charge of abduction he got 5 years rape he received life imprisonment, for sexual exploitation of children15 years and contravention of the Immigration Act 12 months imprisonment.
The sentences imposed on the last four charges will run concurrently with the trafficking sentence.
The accused was entered into the National Register for Sex Offenders.
The Hawks’ Provincial head, Major General Makgato, applauded the collaborative efforts by the multi-disciplinary team comprising of the Hawks, Department of Social Development, Interpol, SAPS Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offenses Unit (FCS) and the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) that brought about this sentence.
“The exploitation of our young children by hard-core criminals will never be tolerated and we will ensure that we fulfill our constitutional mandate to protect our future generation,” said Makgato.
'No links to serial killer yet, but similarities a concern'
Fifth woman found murdered
UPDATE! Another woman’s body was found this morning, Tuesday, 15 September 2026 on the side of the road in Kwa-Thema, Springs. The discovery comes just a day after a woman’s body was found in Olifantsfontein near Kempton Park. This is the sixth woman’s body found in Ekurhuleni in the past two months.
CRIME SCENE: Ekurhuleni, Gauteng: Fears of a serial killer roaming the streets of Kempton Park and surrounding areas are mounting after the body of a fifth woman was found on Monday morning, 14 September 2026.
The half-naked body was discovered on the side of a road in Olifantsfontein. Monday’s grim discovery follows two days after a fourth body was discovered on Saturday, 12 September 2026 on a field in Kempton Park. Before this, three other bodies were found in the same area over a period of about two months
While the South African Police Service (SAPS) have stopped short of linking the deaths to a serial killer, it issued a warning to women in and around Kempton Park, particularly the Rhodesfield area, to exercise extreme caution.
The police said preliminary information gathered by detectives indicates similarities in the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
“The women were found half naked and with visible bruising, and the discovery sites of the first four women were located within the same vicinity. The similarities are sufficiently concerning for the police to issue a public warning and intensify investigations.
“Women in and around Kempton Park are urged not to walk or run alone, particularly in isolated areas. They should avoid secluded spaces, remain vigilant and, where possible, travel or exercise in groups.
“The safety of women remains a priority for SAPS, and the police will not wait for further incidents before taking decisive action,” the police said.
The Acting National Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane, has directed the Gauteng Provincial Commissioner to immediately establish a dedicated multidisciplinary task team to investigate the cases and determine whether there are links between the incidents.
The task team will be led by the Gauteng Deputy Provincial Commissioner, Major General Mbuso Khumalo, who has been tasked with ensuring that all investigative avenues are pursued and that no stone is left unturned in establishing who is responsible for these deaths.

Police also find suspicious vehicle, but no arrests
Cops make R300 m cocaine bust
CRIME SCENE: Northriding, Johannesburg: The South African Police Service (SAPS) have seized cocaine worth an estimated R300 million in a massive drug bust.
According to SAPS Honeydew police conducted an operation at a plot in Northriding at about 20:30 on Saturday, 12 September 2026 after receiving information regarding suspected drug-related activities.
During the operation, police also seized a black Land Cruiser SUV after it was allegedly found displaying false registration numbers and with an allegedly altered Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).
No arrests have been made at this stage. Police investigations are continuing to establish the circumstances surrounding the seizure.
The police said it would continue to work with other law-enforcement stakeholders and communities to ensure that criminal activities are effectively addressed.
