Killings may be linked to fibre installation in Gugulethu
Another triple murder rocks City
CRIME SCENE: Gugulethu, Cape Town: A second triple murder in less than 48 hours has shocked Cape Town residents.
The police responded to a crime scene at about 09:57 in Z Memani Street, KTC informal settlement in Gugulethu, on Tuesday, 22 September 2026 and discovered the bodies of three men who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds to their upper bodies and heads. All three victims were declared deceased at the scene.
According to the police, preliminary information suggests that the deceased may have been involved in an altercation with unknown suspects following an alleged robbery involving employees of a company installing fibre in the area.
This information forms part of the investigation and has not yet been confirmed.

The investigation has been taken over by detectives from the Provincial Serious Violent Crime Unit, who are working to establish the circumstances that led to the incident and to identify those responsible.
The deaths come soon after a triple murder and attempted murder following a shooting in Phumleni, Lingelethu-West, on Sunday, 20 September 2026 just after 22:00.

Police nab 10 suspects after shootout
CRIME SCENE: Cleveland, Gauteng: The South African Police Services (SAPS) have fatally shot a suspect and arrested 10 more, all found in a light truck.
The police also recovered nine firearms following a shootout with the suspects on Monday, 21 September 2026, at approximately 19:36.
According to SAPS, Gauteng members were conducting patrols in the area, when they noticed a suspicious Hyundai H100 fitted with blue lights and a siren.
The vehicle stopped when police approached, but suddenly drove off again. Police called for backup and continued following the suspicious vehicle.
“When the vehicle eventually stopped, three suspects allegedly jumped out and opened fire at the police. A shootout ensued between the police and the suspects. Two suspects fled the scene on foot, while a third suspect was fatally shot.
“Police subsequently searched the vehicle and found ten suspects inside. Nine firearms, magazines and live ammunition were recovered.
“Cleveland police have opened cases of murder, attempted murder, attempted business robbery, and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition,” said SAPS
Police track armed suspect to scrapyard where is shot
Breakthrough in hijack-murder case
CRIME SCENE: Eldorado Park, Johannesburg: There was high drama at a scrapyard in Freedom Park on Monday 21 September 2026 when police tried to arrest a suspect and he fired at them.
The suspect is linked to a murder and hijacking incident in which a woman’s body was found along a roadside at Nancefield in Eldorado Park on 24 August 2026. The 27-year-old deceased had injuries to her upper body, and a murder and hijacking case was subsequently opened.
On 21 September 2026, at about 10:00, intelligence information led police to the scrapyard where one of the suspects, aged 27-years, was traced.
According to the police when he saw them he produced a firearm while trying to flee the scene, resulting in a shootout with the police. He sustained injuries and was taken to hospital, where he remains under police guard. Police recovered a .38 Special revolver with its serial number filed off and one live round.
Further intensive investigations led to the arrest of two additional suspects, aged 35 and 36-years on Monday night at about 19:45 at Freedom Park, bringing the total number of arrests to three. The deceased’s vehicle has not yet been recovered.
Police arrest suspect after raid in Hout Bay
Marine life worth R500 000 seized
CRIME SCENE: Hout Bay, Cape Town: A man has been arrested and illicit marine resources valued at R500 000 confiscated in a raid at a house.
According to the South African Police Service (SAPS) the Anti-Economic Crime Task Team and Counterfeit and Illicit Policing Team did a crime intelligence driven operation which led to the arrest of a 38-year-old man on Monday, 21 September 2026 at 04:30.
“A large quantity of lobsters, abalone, prawns and lobster eggs with an estimated street value of R500 000-00 hidden in a big freezer were found. Diving equipment and a scale were also found and confiscated.
“The suspect failed to give a valid reason for being in possession of the marine resources and was arrested on charges of contravention of the Marine Living Resource Act.
“The Department of Agriculture, Forestry, Fisheries and Environment were called to the scene, and all the exhibits were counted and confirmed by them,” said SAPS.
CCTV operator leads police to suspect in Langa
Sharp eye spots illegal firearm
CRIME SCENE: Langa, Cape Town: The sharp eye of a CCTV operator together with the City’s enforcement agencies led to the quick arrest of three suspects in the early hours of Monday morning, 21 September 2026.
The CCTV operator spotted a suspect carrying a firearm in Washington Drive, Langa just after 01:00.
The suspect went inside a premises in the area, and emerged a short while later, where he handed the firearm over to a second man.
Law Enforcement and South African Police Service (SAPS) officers responded to the alert, and were guided to the suspect by the CCTV operator. SAPS officers took a 21-year-old man into custody for the possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition.
‘We’ve had numerous examples in recent weeks of how technology boosts the fight against crime. This latest incident simply reiterates that point very clearly.
“Even more encouraging is the manner in which inter-agency collaboration is growing between our enforcement services and SAPS and what is possible when we work together,’ said Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, JP Smith.
Bellville: In another incident on Sunday, 20th September, a vehicle was hijacked in Makhaza, Khayelitsha. The City’s Metro Police Tactical Response Unit (TRU) members later found it parked at the taxi rank.
They set up surveillance on the vehicle and observed three suspects returning to the car and driving it away.
A tactical vehicle stop was initiated and the occupants attempted to flee the scene. All 3 occupants were apprehended and handed over to Bellville SAPS, for “possession of a hijacked vehicle.”
The City’s law enforcement agencies made 469 arrests in the past week, and issued 72 842 fines during weekly enforcement patrols.
