Four suspects arrested, guns with ammo seized

CRIME SCENE: Gugulethu, Cape Town: The police have uncovered an extortion ring while questioning a suspect in an attempted murder case.
According to the South African Police Service (SAPS) Gugulethu police were interrogating the suspect on Monday, 28 September 2026.
“During the interrogation he revealed details about extortion activities and firearms concealed at an address in NY136. The intelligence was conveyed to members of the Crime Prevention Unit, who immediately went to the address, where they found two suspects and confiscated a 9mm pistol with seven rounds of ammunition.
“Further probing led to a second address in NY7, where two more suspects were found in possession of a 9mm pistol without a serial number. The four suspects, aged 19, 20, 26 and 37-years, were arrested for extortion, possession of prohibited firearms and illegal possession of ammunition,” said SAPS.

CRIME SCENE: Diepsloot, Gauteng: Two foreigners have been arrested for allegedly being in possession of Tik worth over R500 000.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) Crime Prevention Unit (CPU) conducted an ad hoc operation, in response to information regarding the suspected storage and distribution of illegal narcotics at Diepsloot informal settlement on Monday, 28 September 2026.
According to SAPS the information was received from a registered informant, who indicated that a known target was expected to receive a consignment of Crystal Meth (Tik) estimated to weigh 3kg, with a street value of over R700 000.00. The drugs were allegedly intended for distribution and sale in the vicinity.
“Diepsloot SAPS CPU members responded and conducted a search at a spaza shop. During the operation, members seized approximately 2kg of Crystal Meth, with an estimated street value of over R500 000.00.
“The recipient fled the scene just before the police could arrest them. Two suspects, who were identified as Ethiopian and Malawian nationals, were subsequently arrested in connection with possession and distribution of illegal narcotics,” said SAPS.

KAAPSTAD: Vinnige optrede deur die Metrop Polisie se eenheid teen motorkapings het gelei tot die arrestasie van vier verdagtes.
Die eenheid is Sondag, 27 September 2026, ongeveer 15:36, in kennis gestel van ‘n silwer Toyota Corolla wat in TT-seksie, Site B, Khayelitsha gekaap is.
Beamptes het die voertuig by die kruising van Govan Mbeki-weg en Oscar Mpetha-rylaan opgespoor. Toe hulle nader beweeg, het twee verdagtes uit die voertuig gespring en weggehardloop.
Die beamptes het hulle agternagesit gearresteer saam met twee ander wat nog in die voertuig was, insluitend ‘n 15-jarige seun.
“Dit is bemoedigend om te sien hoe doeltreffend die personeel van dié eenheid op hierdie voorvalle reageer. Dit wys ons gereed om op te tree sodra die sake by die Stad aangemeld word.
“Maar die sindikate agter hierdie kapings moet gestuit word, net soos die afpersingsindikate wat die gemeenskappe teister,” het JP Smith, die Stad burgemeesterskomiteelid vir veiligheid en sekuriteit, gesê.
Vir die afgelope week het die Metropolisie 211 verdagtes gearresteer – insluitend 104 vir dronkbestuur – en 3 819 boetes uitgereik.
Daarbenewens het hulle ‘n hoeveelheid dwelms gekonfiskeer en verskeie gekaapte voertuie teruggevind.
Wetstoepassing-beamptes het 214 arrestasies uitgevoer en 11 521 boetes tydens weeklikse patrollies uitgereik.
Op die paaie het verkeersbeamptes 51 verdagtes gearresteer – 36 vir dronkbestuur, 11 vir roekelose en nalatige bestuur en vier op ander aanklagte. Hulle het 1 749 lasbriewe uitgevoer, 108 openbare vervoervoertuie geskut en 42 118 boetes uitgereik.
“Inwoners van die Stad kan wetteloosheid by ons inbelsentrum aanmeld deur 021 480 7700 te skakel of die Stad se App te gebruik om ‘n voorval direk by Veiligheid en Sekuriteit aan te meld,” het Smith gesê.

CRIME SCENE: Harrismith, KwaZulu-Natal: Three police officers were assaulted by five attackers during the early hours of Sunday morning, 27 September 2026.
Four of the suspects have since been arrested and the police officers received medical treatment in hospital.
According to the South African Police Service (SAPS) the three off-duty officers were attacked while they were seated in their private vehicles outside a tavern in Harrismith.
One of the officers noticed a group of people attacking two of his colleagues. He immediately got out of his vehicle to intervene, but was also assaulted and injured in the process.
The five suspects fled the scene in an unknown vehicle at approximately 02:00.
Following a swift response and preliminary investigation, police managed to arrest four of the five suspects, aged between 21 and 25-years The fifth suspect remains at large.
Cases of attempted murder are being investigated.

Hul arrestasies volg op dié van Jasmine Maureen Robert (29), wat vroeër vandeesmaand in verband met dieselfde saak gearresteer is. Robert sal na verwagting op 5 Oktober 2026 weer in die hof verskyn vir ‘n aansoek om regshulp. Die twee nuutste verdagtes sal Woensdag, 30 September 2026, vir die eerste keer in die Kaapstadse landdroshof verskyn.
MISDAADTONEEL: Kaapstad: Die Suid-Afrikaanse Polisiediens (SAPD) het ‘n moontlike slagoffer van mensehandel gered en ‘n verdagte gearresteer weens haar beweerde betrokkenheid by ‘n mensehandel-netwerk.
Volgens ‘n woordvoerder van die Direktoraat vir Prioriteit-misdaadondersoek (die Hawks), adjudant-offisier Zinzi Hani, is die 22-jarige slagoffer na bewering deur die 29-jarige verdagte via TikTok na Kaapstad gelok onder die valse voorwendsel dat sy ‘n werk as haarkapper sou kry.
Die jong vrou het in April 2026 ingestem, en die verdagte het reëlings getref en betaal vir al haar reisdokumente, paspoort en vliegkaartjies na Kaapstad.
“Met haar aankoms in Kaapstad is sy deur die verdagte opgetel en na ‘n hotel geneem. Ondersoeke het aan die lig gebring dat die verdagte die slagoffer se paspoort sowel as haar selfoon afgevat het.
“Sy het ook probeer om die slagoffer tot prostitusie te dwing, maar sy het geweier,” het Hani gesê.
Op Sondag, 13 September, het die slagoffer daarin geslaag om te ontsnap en na die Woodstock-polisiekantoor gehardloop, waar sy gehelp is.

“Sy is deur die slagoffer uitgewys en is onmiddellik deur ‘n SAPD-lid gearresteer. Die saak is daarna na die Hawks verwys vir verdere ondersoek,” het Hani gesê.
Victim (22) lured to Cape Town for sex work
Alleged Tik Tok trafficker nabbed
UPADATE! Two suspects, aged 25 and 35-years, were arrested on Tuesday, 29 September 2026, by the Hawks’ Economic Protected Resources team on charges of trafficking in persons. Their arrest follows that of Jasmine Maureen Robert (29) who was arrested earlier this month on this same matter. Robert is expected back in court on 5 October 2026 for Legal Aid application. The latest two suspects, will make their first appearance in the Cape Town Magistrates Court on Wednesday, 30 September 2026.
CRIME SCENE: Cape Town: The South African Police Service (SAPS) have rescued a possible victim of human trafficking and arrested a suspect for involvement in a trafficking ring.
According to a spokesperson for the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks), Warrant Officer Zinzi Hani, the 22-year-old victim was allegedly lured to Cape Town on Tik Tok by the 29-year-old suspect under the false pretenses of getting her a job as a hair stylist.
This was during April 2026. The young woman agreed and the suspect made arrangements and paid for all her travel documents, passport and flight tickets to Cape Town.
“Upon her arrival in Cape town she was picked up by the suspect where she was taken to a hotel. Investigations revealed the suspect took the victim’s passport as well as her cell phone.
“She also attempted to force the victim into prostitution, but she refused,” said Hani
On Sunday, 13 September the victim managed to escape and ran to Woodstock SAPS where she was assisted.
The suspect also came to Woodstock SAPS to make enquiries regarding the whereabouts of the victim.
“She was pointed out by the victim and was immediately arrested by the SAPS member and instantly detained. The matter was then referred to the Hawks for further probing,” said Hani.
15-year-old boy among suspects in hijacked vehicle
Metro cops quickly catch hijackers
CAPE TOWN: Quick action by the Metro Police Anti-Hijacking Unit have led to the arrests of four hijacking suspects and recovery of a hijacked vehicle.
On Sunday, 27 September 2026, at approximately 15:36 the Unit received a notification of a silver Toyota Corolla that had been hijacked in TT section, Site B, Khayelitsha.
Officers located the vehicle at the intersection of Govan Mbeki Road and Oscar Mpetha Drive. As they approached, two suspects abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot.
Officers chased after them and four suspects were arrested, two still inside the vehicle, including a 15-year-old, and were taken to Harare police station.
“It is encouraging to see how effectively the anti-hijacking staff are responding to these incidents. It shows that, when these matters are reported to the City, we can take action.
“However, we cannot continuously respond to hijackings and recovering vehicles. The syndicates behind these hijackings must be shut down, similar to the extortion syndicates plaguing these communities,” said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, JP Smith.
Metro Police officers, meanwhile, arrested 211 suspects including 104 for drunk driving, and issued 3 819 fines over the past week.
In addition, they confiscated a number of drugs and recovered several hijacked vehicles.
Their Law Enforcement colleagues made 214 arrests and issued 11 521 notices during weekly patrols.
On the roads, Traffic Officers arrested 51 suspects – 36 for drunk driving, 11 for reckless and negligent driving and four on other charges. They executed 1 749 warrants, impounded 108 public transport vehicles and issued 42 118 fines.
“City residents can report lawlessness to our call centre by phoning 021 480 7700 or using the City App to log an incident directly with Safety and Security,” said Smith.
Police and business work together to thwart robbery
Three CIT robbers shot dead
CRIME SCENE: Tshwane, Gauteng: Three suspected cash-in-transit (CIT) robbers were shot dead and one suspect was arrested following a shootout with police on Monday, 28 September 2026.
A multidisciplinary team comprising the South African Police Service (SAPS) Tactical Response Team, Anti-Gang Unit, Gauteng Traffic Airwing and private security companies through Business Against Crime South Africa was following up on intelligence about suspects planning a robbery.
The team spotted a white Hyundai H1 on the R80 highway in Tshwane and attempted to stop the vehicle, using blue lights. The occupants allegedly opened fire on the police, who responded, resulting in three suspects being fatally wounded.
An AK-47 rifle and a 9mm pistol were recovered from the vehicle.
One suspect believed to be working with the dead robbers was travelling in a Toyota Avanza and was arrested. He was found in possession of a 9mm pistol.
The Deputy Provincial Commissioner for Policing in Gauteng, Major General Fred Kekana, applauded the multidisciplinary team for its continued efforts to disrupt CIT robberies and cross-pavement robberies in the province.
