'He chose a different path, but lost his life in this way'
Young man gunned down at station
CRIME SCENE: Bonteheuwel, Cape Town: A young man has been gunned down in cold blood at the Bonteheuwel train station.

According to Sergeant Wesley Twigg, a media liaison officer for the Western Cape police, the tragic incident occurred on Thursday late afternoon, 17 September 2026.
Twigg said the 23-year-old man was shot in his head at about 17.30 at the station in Bofors Circle.
“Elsies River police responded to a complaint of a shooting and upon arrival on the scene they found the victim with a gunshot wound to his head. The victim was declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel.
“The motive for the attack is believed to be gang related. The suspect/s fled the scene and are yet to be arrested. A murder case was registered for investigation’” said Twigg.
The ward councillor for Bonteheuwel, Angus McKenzie, conveyed his condolences to the family of the young man.
McKenzie posted on Facebook: “Darren had previously been involved in anti-social behaviour, but over the past few years he had made a conscious decision to change his life and focus on taking care of those closest to him. It is heartbreaking that a young man who chose a different path has lost his life in this way.
“I appeal to anyone who may have witnessed the shooting or has any information that could assist investigators to please come forward and share it through the appropriate law-enforcement channels or our community tip-off line.
“Someone knows what happened. Let’s help bring the perpetrators to justice.”
