The incident happened on the corner of Jakkalsvlei Avenue and Kiaat Way.

“This senseless act of violence comes in the wake of the warnings we issued regarding possible retaliation following last night’s killing,” said the ward councillor for Bonteheuwel, Angus McKenzie in a Facebook post this evening.

On Tuesday, 5 May 2026 a young man was also shot and killed in Bonteheuwel.

“Let us be clear the life lost today was not a gang member, but an innocent individual who did not deserve to become a victim of this ongoing cycle of violence.”

Shortly after the shooting, McKenzie said they received strong, credible information from residents and eyewitnesses via his tip-off line.

“That information was immediately relayed to our safety and security teams on the ground. Within minutes, they acted. The suspects’ vehicle was identified, stopped, and searched.”

McKenzie said in his Facebook post a” firearm with ammunition was recovered, and multiple suspects matching the provided descriptions were apprehended. All suspects have been arrested and will be processed at Bishop Lavis Police Station.

“Tonight, we mourn the loss of an innocent life. Last night, a life was also lost to gang violence. But in the midst of this pain, the power of community stood firm.”

He later said that the vehicle used in Wednesday evening’s shooting was confirmed hijacked a few days ago in Bridgetown, Athlone.

The suspects had changed the number plates.
