Suspect fires multiple shots before fleeing

Man shot dead in Strand

CRIME SCENE: Strand, Helderberg: A 49-year-old man was shot and killed in Lwandle on Thursday afternoon, 17 September 2026.

Unconfirmed reports stated the man was a tavern owner who was shot and killed inside his establishment in Pholile Park informal settlement, Lwandle.

According to a media liaison officer for the Western Cape police, Sergeant Wesley Twigg happened at about 16:00. 

“Lwandle police members were called to the crime scene where they found the victim who sustained gunshot wounds to his body. The victim was declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel. 

“According to reports the victim was approached by an unknown suspect who shot him before fleeing the scene. The motive for the attack is yet to be determined,” said Twigg.

Cops in Namakwa District intensify operations

Dagga dealing up in smoke

CRIME SCENE: Namakwa District, Northern Cape: Suspected drug dealers’ business went up in smoke on Wednesday, 16 September 2026 as the South African Police Service (SAPS) in the area intensified efforts to combat drug-related offences.

SAPS in the Namakwa District made three separate arrests and seized dagga during operations in Kleinsee and Springbok.

At approximately 08:15 on Wednesday, Kleinsee police executed a search and seizure warrant at a residence in First Avenue.

According to SAPs five males were found on the premises. A search was conducted with consent of the owner and dagga with an estimated street value of R8 870 was discovered concealed inside a cupboard in the bedroom.

A 42-year-old man was arrested for possession of dagga.

At about 09:30 the Namakwa District Task Team arrested a 47-year-old man in Bergsig, Springbok, after he was found in possession of drugs.

Later the same day, the District Task Team received information regarding suspected drug-activities also in Bergsig. 

According to SAPS the members acted swiftly and intercepted a suspicious vehicle.

“A thorough search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of eight vacuum-sealed bags containing dagga with an estimated street value of R29 600. A 53-year-old male suspect was arrested for dealing in dagga,” said SAPS..

The Namakwa District Management has welcomed the successes and warned individuals involved in the illicit drug trade that the police  will continue to relentlessly disrupt and dismantle criminal activities.

SAPS Namakwa also thanked community members for their continued cooperation and encouraged residents to report suspected criminal activities to the police.

MISDAADTONEEL: Mitchells Plain, Kaapstad: ’n 20-jarige man, wat van die polisie probeer vlug en na bewering van ’n onwettige vuurwapen probeer onstlae raak, is agter tralies.

Volgens die Suid-Afrikaanse Polisiediens (SAPD) het die Anti-bende-eenheid Woensdag, 16 September 2026, ’n intelligensie-gedrewe operasie in Beacon Valley, Mitchells Plain, uitgevoer.

“Hulle het inligting opgevolg en was op pad na die geïdentifiseerde perseel toe hulle ’n man opmerk wat na die agterkant van die huis hardloop en iets laat val. Hy is gearresteer en ’n .38 Special-rewolwer met ammunisie is op die grond gevind,” het die SAPD gesê.

PAROW: Lede van Operasie Lockdown 3 het ’n geïdentifiseerde perseel in Duncan-weg deursoek, waar hulle 60 Mandrax-tablette agter ’n kas in die eetkamer gevind het. ’n Volwasse vrou is vir die besit van dwelms gearresteer.

LANGA: ’n Besending dwelms, bestaande uit Tik, kokaïen, ecstasy en Mandrax, is op Woensdag, 16 September 2026, deur lede van Operasie Lockdown 3 by ’n huis in Haarlemstraat, Langa, gekonfiskeer.
