Police find 3 bags filled with Khat
Drug bust at airport
CRIME SCENE: Cape Town International Airport: A man has been arrested here for allegedly trying to smuggle over 50kg of Khat out of Cape Town.

The South African Police Service (SAPS) Border unit at the Cape Town International Airport arrested the 46-year-old man after the Khat was discovered in his luggage on Saturday, 4 July 2026.
The Unit was conducting routine patrols at about 12:20 in the central terminal building when they received information about a suspicious person at one of the airport’s departure counters. Upon engaging with the man, police did a search and discovered approximately 50.7kg of suspected Khat concealed in three suitcases.
The suspect was arrested on a charge of dealing in drugs.
The acting Provincial Commissioner of the Western Cape police, Major General Luyanda Damoyi, commended the members involved for their alertness and professionalism.
