Slagoffer weier om 'protectors' te betaal

Afpersers vermoor sakeman

Uniforms in verdagtes se besit gekry

Polisie vang ‘blou-lig’ rowers

Suspects caught after high-speed chase

Police nail ‘blue light’ robbers

NATIONAL: The South African Police Service (SAPS) have made a breakthrough against “blue light” robberies and hijackings.

The Devon SAPS in Gauteng and Mpumalanga Organised Crime Unit arrested two suspects, aged, 31 and 41-years, during a stop-and-search operation in Devon on Friday, 3 July 2026.

The drama began when a vehicle failed to stop during the operation. A chase ensued until the vehicle was stopped at Leslie. Upon searching the suspects and the vehicle, police found an unlicensed firearm loaded with ammunition, blue lights, uniforms of SAPS and the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department. Further investigation revealed that the vehicle they were driving was recently hijacked.

The acting Provincial Commissioner of SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General Zeph Mkhwanazi commended the police officers who effected this arrest.

“The arrest of these two suspects sends a strong message that police will not tolerate criminals who disguise as law enforcement officers to terrorise innocent and unsuspecting motorists. The use of blue lights and police uniforms to commit robbery and hijackings is a very serious criminal offence and undermines public trust,” said Mkhwanazi.
