380 kg dagga in toilette versteek
NASIONAAL: Die Suid-Afrikaanse Polisiediens (SAPD) in die Noord-Kaap en provinsiale verkeersbeamptes het ‘n buitelander gearresteer omdat hy na bewering dagga ter waarde van R7,5 miljoen vervoer het.
Die 37-jarige man is Woensdag, 22 Julie 2026 tydens ‘n operasie by die weegbrug op die N1-snelweg in Colesberg, waar 380 kg dagga gekonfiskeer is, gearresteer.
Volgens die SAPD het verkeersbeamptes omstreeks 13:50 ‘n wit Foton-vragmotor wat mobiele toilette vervoer het, voorgekeer nadat hulle ‘n wenk ontvang het dat dit gebruik word om dagga te versteek.
Tydens die inspeksie het hulle ‘n sterk reuk van dagga uit een van die toilette gekry en ‘n groot sak binne gevind.
“Die polisie is na die toneel ontbied en het na ‘n deeglike deursoeking sewe groot ontdek wat met kleefband toegedraai was en na bewering dagga bevat het.
“Die bestuurder is deur die Colesberg SAPD gearresteer en aangekla vir handel in dagga.
“Die vragmotor en sleepwa is ook gekonfiskeer,” het die SAPD gesê.
Die Noord-Kaapse Provinsiale Polisiekommissaris, luitenant-generaal Koliswa Otola, het die amptenare geprys vir hulle goeie optrede en gesê die beslaglegging toon die waarde van samewerking tussen wetstoepassings-agentskappe in die ontwrigting van dwelmsmokkelary.
Police arrest foreigner on N1 highway
380 kg of dagga found in toilets
NATIONAL: The South African Police Service (SAPS) in the Northern Cape, together with provincial traffic officials, have arrested a foreigner on suspicion of transporting dagga valued at R7,5 million.
The 37-year-old man was arrested during an operation at the weigh bridge on the N1 highway in Colesberg on Wednesday, 22 July 2026 where 380kg of dagga was seized.
According to SAPS at approximately 13:50, traffic officials stopped a white Foton truck transporting mobile toilets after receiving a tip-off that it was being used to conceal dagga. During the inspection, they detected a strong smell of dagga coming from one of the toilets and found a large bag inside.
“Police were called to the scene and, after a thorough search, discovered seven bulk bags wrapped in tape and containing suspected dagga.
“The driver was arrested by Colesberg SAPS and charged with dealing in dagga. The truck and trailer were also confiscated,” said SAPS.
The Northern Cape Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Koliswa Otola, commended the officials for their vigilance and swift response, saying the seizure shows the value of cooperation between law enforcement agencies in disrupting drug trafficking.

MISDAADTONEEL: Lotusrivier, Kaapstad: Die Stad Kaapstad sê hy wil nie hê borgtog moet aan kabeldiewe toegestaan word nie.
Dit kom nadat die Stad se wetstoepassingsbeamptes Maandagaand, 20 Julie 2026 die drie vermeende kabeldiewe in Plantation-weg, Lotusrivier, gearresteer het.
Die verdagtes is op heterdaad betrap nadat hulle op CCTV gesien is. Beamptes het ook ‘n graaf, groot messe en ‘n draadsnyer gekonfiskeer.
“Ons Stad het ‘n groot problem met kabeldiewe en diegene wat van infrastruktuur-verwante misdade beskuldig word, moet nie toegelaat word om terug te keer na ons gemeenskappe terwyl hulle verhoorafwagtend is nie,” het die Stad se burgemeesterskomiteelid vir Veiligheid en Sekuriteit, JP Smith, gesê.
“Kabeldiefstal ontwrig noodsaaklike dienste, veroorsaak wydverspreide ongerief vir inwoners en besighede, plaas ‘n enorme finansiële las op belastingbetalers en kan openbare veiligheid in gevaar stel.
“Bendebedrywighede, huisbraak, motordiefstal en ander misdade floreer in die donker. ’n Boodskap moet gestuur word aan die sindikate agter hierdie voortdurende diefstal dat, indien julle gevang word, sal julle agter tralies bly,” het Smith gesê.
Hy het die gemeenskappe bedank wat “kabeldiefstal aan die Stad rapporteer”.

Deadly weapons taken off streets
CRIME SCENE: Hanover Park, Cape Town: Two deadly weapons have been removed from two of the most crime ridden areas on the Cape Flats.
According to the South African Police Service (SAPS) its Anti-Gang Unit, deployed in Hanover Park due to ongoing gang violence, acted quickly on information and seized two firearms in two separate incidents.
On Wednesday, 22 July 2026, members received information regarding a firearm being stored at a premises in Surwood Walk, Hanover Park. A 9mm pistol and 17 rounds of ammunition were found in a cupboard in one of the rooms.
A 27-year-old suspect was arrested on charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and illegal possession of ammunition.
On Tuesday, 21 July 2026, the Unit gathered information about a firearm hidden at a premises in Parkers Walk, Parkwood. A Norinco Star pistol without a serial number and nine 9mm rounds of ammunition were confiscated during the search.
During the same period, a tracing of operation was conducted and a 23-year-old male was arrested for a murder committed earlier this month in Grassy Park.

Kaptein FC Van Wyk, ‘n mediaskakelbeampte vir die Wes-Kaapse polisie, het gesê die Lentegeur-polisie het Dinsdag, 21 Julie 2026 reageer op ‘n klagte oor ‘n skietery by ‘n veld in Lobelia-straat.
“Toe die lede omstreeks 15:30 by die toneel aankom, het hulle ‘n man in sy 20s met ‘n skietwond aan die kop op die veld gevind. Die omstandighede rondom hierdie voorval word ondersoek. Die motief en verdagte is onbekend,” het Van Wyk gesê.

Man carjacked in Delft
CRIME SCENE: Delft, Cape Town: A man was robbed of his car by three armed men on Tuesday, 21 July 2026.
A police media liaison officer for the Western Cape, Thembakazi Mpendukana, said Delft police opened a carjacking case following an incident at N2 Gateway, Delft around 21:30.
“Three unknown male suspects pointed a gun at a man then took his white Hyundai Grand i10 and drove away with it. No injuries were reported. The investigation is ongoing and no arrest has been made yet,” Mpendukana.
There was speculation in the community the victim was an e-hailing driver and that he was shot and shoved in the boot, before the suspects drove off with the car. The police, however, did not confirm this.
'City faces onslaught of crime'
Cable thieves caught in the act
CRIME SCENE: Lotus River, Cape Town: The City of Cape Town has called on the National Prosecting Authority (NPA) and South African Police Service (SAPS) to oppose bail for three alleged cable thieves.
On Monday evening, 20 July 2026 the City’s Law Enforcement officers arrested the three suspects in Plantation Road, Lotus River.
The suspects were caught in the act after being spotted on CCTV. Officers also confiscated a shovel, large knives and a pair of wire cutters.
“Our City is facing an onslaught of cable theft and those accused of infrastructure-related crimes should not be allowed back into our communities while awaiting trial,” said the City’s Mayoral Committee member for Safety and Security, JP Smith.
“Cable theft is not a victimless crime. It disrupts essential services, causes widespread inconvenience for residents and businesses, places an enormous financial burden on taxpayers and can compromise public safety.
“Gangsterism, housebreakings, car theft and other crimes flourish in the dark. A message must be sent to the syndicates behind this constant theft that, if caught, you will stay behind bars,” said Smith.
He thanked the communities who are “diligently reporting cable theft to the City”. Any suspected cable theft can be reported to 021 480 7700.

“Amptenare van die Stellenbosch Munisipaliteit se verkeersdienste, wetstoepassing, ambulans en SAPD was op die toneel,” het die Munisipaliteit gesê.

CRIME SCENE: Mitchells Plain, Cape Town: The South African Police Service (SAPS) are investigating a murder case following the discovery of a body in Lentegeur.
Captain FC Van Wyk, a media liaison officer for the Western Cape police, said Lentegeur police attended to a complaint about a shooting on Tuesday, 21 July 2026 at an open field in Lobelia Street.
“When the members arrived at the scene at about 15:30 they found a male in his 20s with a gunshot wound to the head laying on the field. Circumstances surrounding this incident are under investigation. The motive and suspect is unknown,” said Van Wyk.
Multiple injuries in tragic Franschhoek crash
Two die as truck, car collide
ACCIDENT SCENE: Franschhoek, Stellenbosch: At least two people were killed in a head-on collision between a light motor vehicle and a truck on Tuesday night, 21 July 2026.
The Stellenbosch Municipality said in a statement the accident occurred on the R45 near Paserene Wine Farm outside Franschhoek. Two people were also critically innured and several others sustained slight to minor injuries.
“Officials from Stellenbosch Municipality traffic services, law enforcement, ambulances and SAPS were on the scene,” said the Municipality.
