Two wounded in fight over routes in Delft

Wild shootout at taxi rank

CRIME SCENE: Delft, Cape Town: The Palm Taxi Rank had to be temporarily shut down on Wednesday, 28 October 2026 after a wild shootout between taxi drivers which injured two people.

According to Thembakazi Mpendukana, a media liaison officer for the Western Cape police, Delft police opened two attempted murder and discharge of firearm cases following the shooting incident at around 07:00.

“Two men were wounded during the shooting and were rushed to hospital by private vehicle for medical care. No arrest has been made yet,” said Mpendukana.

The City of Cape Town’s Mayoral Committee Member for Mobility, Rob Quintas, said the shooting was a result of route disputes between the Cape Amalgamated Taxi Association (CATA) and the Cape Organisation for the Democratic Taxi Association (CODETA).

Quintas said resources had been deployed to protect commuters and public transport infrastructure, and he called on both associations to end the hostilities immediately.
