Law enforcement agencies on high alert
Three held for taxi murder
CRIME SCENE: Cape Town: Law enforcement agencies have arrested three suspects shortly after a taxi driver was shot and killed in the ongoing taxi feud between the Cape Amalgamated Taxi Association (CATA) and the Cape Organisation for the Democratic Taxi Association (CODETA).

On Thursday night, 29 October 2026 a taxi driver, who was in a vehicle with a female companion, came under attack from gunmen who fled after shooting in Mfuleni. The taxi driver succumbed to his injuries, and the woman was injured and taken to a medical facility.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) said four firearms were seized by Mfuleni SAPS Crime Prevention Unit members shortly after the incident.
According to SAPS detectives from the Provincial Taxi Violence Unit, acting on intelligence, also arrested a 54-year-old taxi driver at the Site C, Khayelitsha taxi rank with an unlicensed firearm and 15 rounds of ammunition.
“With the execution of the joint operational plan targeting taxi-related shooting incidents in Cape Town in full swing, the leadership of the integrated law enforcement agencies, comprising the SAPS in the Western Cape and the City of Cape Town’s law enforcement agencies, met on Friday morning for an assessment exercise at the Municipality’s Joint Public Safety Operations Centre in Parow.
“The assessment meeting afforded the joint security management core an opportunity to view live visuals from identified hotspots, transmitted through the City’s Joint Public Safety Operations Centre,” said SAPS.
Currently, the deployments are in force at various locations throughout the City of Cape Town.
“Multiple impoundments have been effected since yesterday as part of concerted efforts by the City’s Traffic Services to deal with the taxi violence threat and its enabling factors.
“Western Cape SAPS, together with the City of Cape Town’s Metro Police, Law Enforcement and Traffic Services, remain on high alert as they continue to execute targeted operations in the interest of safety for all.”
