Deadly weapons taken off streets
CRIME SCENE: Hanover Park, Cape Town: Two deadly weapons have been removed from two of the most crime ridden areas on the Cape Flats.

According to the South African Police Service (SAPS) its Anti-Gang Unit, deployed in Hanover Park due to ongoing gang violence, acted quickly on information and seized two firearms in two separate incidents.
On Wednesday, 22 July 2026, members received information regarding a firearm being stored at a premises in Surwood Walk, Hanover Park. A 9mm pistol and 17 rounds of ammunition were found in a cupboard in one of the rooms.
A 27-year-old suspect was arrested on charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and illegal possession of ammunition.
On Tuesday, 21 July 2026, the Unit gathered information about a firearm hidden at a premises in Parkers Walk, Parkwood. A Norinco Star pistol without a serial number and nine 9mm rounds of ammunition were confiscated during the search.
During the same period, a tracing of operation was conducted and a 23-year-old male was arrested for a murder committed earlier this month in Grassy Park.
