5 under arrest after significant seizures

Drug merchants bust

CRIME SCENE: Garden Route, Southern Cape: Five suspects are behind bars after a significant drug busts here.

The drug seizures in Ladismith and Kwanokuthula had a combined estimated street value of R142 000.

In the first incident, during the early morning hours of Sunday, 3 May 2026, Kwanokuthula police acted on information about a suspicious vehicle traveling along the N2 highway. The vehicle was intercepted in Wilderman Street, Phase 03.

A search was done and 13,5 kilograms of dagga with an estimated street value of R104 000 was discovered. Four suspects aged between 26 and 47-years were arrested, each facing charges of dealing in drugs.

In the second incident, on Monday, 4 May 2026 at around midday, Ladismith police conducted a raid at a house in Uilkraal, 90 mandrax tablets and 110 sachets of tik were discovere. A 29-year- old man was arrested on charges of dealing in drugs.

MISDAADTONEEL: Tuinroete, Suid-Kaap: Dwelmhandel langs die Tuinroete is ‘n gatslag toegedien toe die Suid Afrikaanse polisiediens (SAPD) vyf verdagtes vasgetrek en ‘n groot aantal dwelms gekonfiskeer het.

Die dwelms, wat in Ladismith en Kwanokuthula gevind is, het ‘n gekombineerde straatwaarde van sowat R142 000.

In die eerste voorval, gedurende die vroeë oggendure van Sondag 3 Mei 2026, het die polisie in Kwanokuthula gereageer op inligting oor ‘n verdagte voertuig wat langs die N2-snelweg ry. Die voertuig is in Wildermanstraat, Fase 03, afgetrek.

‘n Soektog is gedoen en 13,5-kilogram dagga met ‘n straatwaarde van sowat R104 000 is ontdek. Vier verdagtes tussen 26 en 47-jaar is gearresteer op aanklagte van dwelmhandel.

In die tweede voorval, Maandag, 4 Mei 2026 omstreeks 12nm, het die polisie in Ladismith ‘n klopjag by ‘n huis in Uilkraal uitgevoer en 90 Mandrax tablette en 110 sakkies Tik ontdek. ‘n 29-jarige man is gearresteer op ‘n aanklag van dwelmhandel.

MISDAADTONEEL: Kraaifontein, Kaapstad: ‘n Jong vrou van hier is gearresteer nadat die Suid-Afrikaanse Polisiediens (SAPD) ‘n 9mm-pistool en 150 rondtes ammunisie gevind het.

Die Kraaifontein-misdaadvoorkomingseenheid het ‘n lasbrief by ‘n huis in Rigolettostraat, Scottsdene, op Sondag 3 Mei 2026 omstreeks 23:30 uitgevoer, het die Wes-Kaapse polisie in ‘n verklaring gesê.

“Hulle het ‘n 28-jarige vrou by die adres gevind en die perseel deursoek. Hulle het ‘n 9mm-pistool, 124 rondtes .45-ammunisie, 19 rondtes .38-ammunisie en nege rondtes 9mm-ammunisie gevind,” lui die verklaring.

Die verdagte is in hegtenis geneem vir die besit van ‘n ongelisensieerde vuurwapen en ammunisie.

CRIME SCENE: Kraaifontein, Cape Town: The South African Police Service (SAPS) has seized a 9mm pistol and 150 rounds of ammunition at a house in Rigoletto Street, Scottsdene.

The Kraaifontein Crime Prevention Unit executed a search warrant at the house on Sunday 3 May 2026 at around 23:30, said the Western Cape police in a statement.

“They found a 28-year-old female at the address and proceeded to search the premises. They founds a 9mm pistol, 124 rounds of .45 ammunition, 19 rounds of .38 ammunition and nine rounds of 9mm ammunition,” said the statement.

The suspect was arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

Wetstoepassers van die Stad Kaapstad se hande was weer vol oor die afeglope week wat op 3 Mei 2026 geëindig het.

Gedurende dié week het die offisiere 374 arrestasies, waarvan meer as 50 vir bestuur onder die invloed van alkohol, gemaak.

Op Sondagaand 3 Mei 2026 in Bellville-Suid is sewe mense tydens ‘n onwettige straat wedren gearresteer, waaronder twee bestuurders wat besig was om te race.

Vyf vermeende dronk bestuurders is ook tydens die onwettige byeenkoms, wat sowat 500 mense gelok het, het die Stad in ‘n verklaring gesê.

“Ek wil die beamptes prys vir hul vinnige optrede om hierdie byeenkoms op te breek, maar die werklikheid is dat hierdie onwettige optrede algemeen is en ‘n bron van frustrasie en gevaar vir omliggende gemeenskappe en ander padgebruikers,” het die Burgemeesterskomiteelid vir Veiligheid en Sekuriteit, JP Smith, gesê.

In ander operasies het verkeersbeamptes 60 arrestasies gemaak – 52 vir bestuur onder die invloed van alkohol, vyf vir roekelose en nalatige bestuur en drie vir ander oortredings.

Die beamptes het ook 142 openbare vervoervoertuie in beslag geneem en 645 lasbriewe vir arrestasie uitgevoer.

Metropolisiebeamptes het 110 arrestasies gemaak en 5 367 boetes uitgereik.

Op Woensdag 29 April 2026 het ‘n CCTV-operateur ‘n verdagte gesien ‘n vuurwapen in ‘n rugsak plaas. Die metropolisie is ontbied stel en tydens die deursoeking het hulle ‘n nagemaakte vuurwapen gevind. Die 26-jarige-man is by die Grassy Park SAPS aangehou.

Op dieselfde dag het beamptes nog ‘n nagemaakte uurwapen, een rondte ammunisie en ‘n klein hoeveelheid Mandrax en kokaïen teruggevind nadat hulle gereageer het op berigte van skote wat in Vleiweg, Belgravia afgevuur is. ‘n 34-jarige man is in hegtenis geneem.

Die Anti-Kapingseenheid het intussen ten minste ses voertuie oor die langnaweek teruggevind. Twee gesteelde voertuie is gestroop gevind in ‘n informele nedersetting in Philippi; ‘n derde is langs Edinburgh Drive in Bishop’s Court teruggevind en drie ander in Khayelitsha en Mfuleni.

Wetstoepassingsbeamptes het 204 arrestasies gemaak en 8 685 boetes uitgereik tydens die week.

LEAP-beamptes het twee vuurwapens teruggevind. In Manenberg is ‘n 37-jarige man Woensdag 29 April 2026 gearresteer vir die besit van ‘n onwettige vuurwapen en Saterdag 2 Mei 2026 het beamptes in Gugulethu ‘n 28-jarige gearresteer vir die besit van ‘n onwettifge vuurwapen en 14 rondtes ammunisie.

Die Openbare Noodkommunikasiesentrum het gedurende die week 1 638 oproepe om hulp aangeteken – 86 was vir aanranding, 39 vir gesinsgeweld, 224 oor geraaas en 18 en klagtes oor drink en bakleiery in die openbaar, lui die verklaring.


Fadiel Adams: I won't be intimidated

NCC leader arrested

CRIME SCENE: Pelican Park, Cape Town: The South African Police Service (SAPS) arrested the leader of the National Coloured Congress (NCC) and Member of Parliament, Fadiel Adams at the parliamentary village in Pelican Park on Tuesday afternoon, 5 May 2026.

This came after the SAPS Political Killings Task Team (PKTT) had earlier on Tuesday made an appeal for Adams to hand himself over at the nearest police station. According to the police the matter relates to a case of fraud and defeating and or obstructing the course of justice.

The police said it was in possession of a J50 warrant of arrest for Adams.

“The warrant relates to serious allegations that he interfered with ongoing investigations into the murder of the ANC Youth League Leader, Mr Sindiso Magaqa.

“The task team discovered that Mr Adams interfered with the now convicted and sentenced hitman at a very sensitive and advanced stage of the police’s investigation.

“Police have gone through extensive efforts to locate Mr Adams, including visiting multiple addresses associated with him. Arrangements were made with his attorney to hand himself over on Monday, 4 May 2026, at the Cape Town Central Police Station, but as of now, he has not cooperated.

“Mr Adams was scheduled to appear before a KwaZulu-Natal court on Monday, but failed to do so,” read a police statement.

Adams had repeatedly before stated that he won’t be intimidated by the police.

MISDAADTONEEL: Pelican Park, Kaapstad: Die Suid-Afrikaanse Polisiediens (SAPD) het Dinsdagmiddag 5 Mei 2026 die leier van die National Coloured Congress (NCC) en Parlementslid, Fadiel Adams, by die parlementêre behuisingskompleks in Pelican Park gearresteer.

Dit volg nadat die SAPD politieke moorde-taakspan (PKTT) vroeër Dinsdag ‘n beroep op Adams gedoen het om homself by die naaste polisiestasie oor te gee. Volgens die polisie hou die saak verband met ‘n saak van bedrog en die verydeling en/of belemmering van die regsproses.

Die polisie het gesê hulle is in besit is van ‘n J50-lasbrief vir Adams se arrestasie.

“Die lasbrief hou verband met ernstige bewerings dat hy ingemeng het met die huidige ondersoeke na die moord op die ANC-jeugligaleier, mnr. Sindiso Magaqa.

“Die taakspan het ontdek dat mnr. Adams ingemeng het met die nou veroordeelde en gevonnisde huurmoordenaar in ‘n baie sensitiewe en gevorderde stadium van die polisie se ondersoek.

“Die polisie het verskeie pogings aangewend om mnr. Adams op te spoor, insluitend die besoek van verskeie adresse wat met hom verband hou. Reëlings is met sy prokureur getref om himself Maandag 4 Mei 2026 by die Kaapstad-Sentraal-polisiestasie oor te gee, maar tot dusver het hy nie saamgewerk nie.

“Mnr. Adams moes Maandag voor ‘n hof in KwaZulu-Natal verskyn, maar het versuim om dit te doen,” lui ‘n polisieverklaring.


More than 50 arrested in short period

Drunk drivers keep officers busy

The City of Cape Town’s enforcement agencies were kept extremely busy over the week ending 3 May 2026, making 374 arrests over the period.

More than 50 of these were for driving under the influence of alcohol, a major headache on local roads.

An operation against illegal street racing in Bellville South on Sunday night, 3 May 2026 resulted in the arrest of seven people, including two drivers who were intercepted while taking part the race.

The traffic service’s Ghost and Random Breath Testing Units disrupted an illegal gathering in Bellville South also arrested five other motorists at the same event for driving under the influence as a crowd of about 500 people dispersed following the officers’ arrival, the City said in a statement.

“I want to commend the officers for their swift action in breaking up this gathering, but the reality is that these illegal actions are commonplace and a source of frustration and danger to surrounding communities and other road users,” said the Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, JP Smith.

In other operations traffic officers recorded 60 arrests – 52 were for driving under the influence of alcohol, five for reckless and negligent driving and three for other offences.

The officers also impounded 142 public transport vehicles and executed 645 warrants of arrest.

Metro police officers made 110 arrests and issued 5 367 traffic and by-law fines.

On Wednesday, 29 April 2026, a CCTV operator spotted a suspect handling a firearm and placing it in a backpack. Metro police were dispatched to investigate and on searching the suspect, they recovered an imitation firearm. The 26-year-old was detained at Grassy Park SAPS.

On the same day, officers recovered another imitation firearm, one live round of ammunition and a small amount of Mandrax and Cocaine after responding to reports of shots being fired in Vlei Road in Belgravia. A 34-year-old male was arrested and detained at Athlone SAPS.

The Anti-Hijacking Unit, meanwhile, recovered at least six vehicles over the long weekend. Two stolen vehicles were found stripped in an informal settlement in Philippi; a third was recovered along Edinburgh Drive in Bishop’s Court and three others in Khayelitsha and Mfuleni.

Law enforcement officers made 204 arrests and issued 8 685 notices during weekly operations.

LEAP officers recovered two firearms. In Manenberg, a 37-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday, 29 April 2026 for possession of a prohibited firearm and on Saturday, 2 May 2026, officers in Gugulethu arrested a 28-year-old for the possession of a prohibited firearm and 14 rounds of ammunition.

The Public Emergency Communication Centre recorded 1 638 calls for assistance this past weekend. Of the calls received 86 were physical assault , 39 for domestic violence, 224 noise nuisance complaints and 18 complaints about drinking and fighting in public, said the statement.
