Protesters close road to Ocean View

Motorists have been warned to steer clear of Kommetjie Road, between Masiphumelele and Ocean View because of protest action.

The road was closed earlier on Thursday evening, 11 June 2026, after protesters started burning tyres and littering the road with crates and rocks. Flames and smoke could be seen hundreds of metres away. The Masiphumelele-Ocean View-Kommetjie police forum issued a notice warning motorists to use alternative routes. There is no access into Ocean View until further notice, it said.

It was reported that the protest action followed the demolition of illegally built structures next to Ocean View.

THE Woodstock police are seeking the assistance of the public to trace Ebrahim Farland, depicted in the photograph, who they believe can assist them with their investigation in a murder case.

The case relates to an adult male who was fatally wounded in Walmer Estate, Woodstock, in September 2025. Farland is not regarded as a suspect at this stage.

Anyone with any information or who knows the whereabouts of Farland is kindly requested to contact the investigating officer detective Sergeant David Basson on 071 035 7096 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111. Alternatively, make use of the MySAPS-App to send a tip-off.

SANParke span net wyd vir stropers

MISDAADTONEEL: Kaappunt: Die Suid-Afrikaanse Nasionale Parke (SANParke) het ‘n ‘groot sukses’ behaal in sy pogings om mariene lewe te beskerm.

Dit volg nadat SANParke se omgewingsmisdaad-ondersoekeenheid (OMI) 12 vermeende perlemoenstropers verhoed het om hul planne uit te voer.

‘n Intelligensie-gedrewe operasie is  Dinsdagaand 9, Junie 2026 deur die OMI in die Kaappunt-gedeelte van die Tafelberg Nasionale Park (TMNP) uitgevoer.

Volgens ‘n verklaring van SANParke maak die operasie deel uit van ‘n uitgebreide ondersoek na die onwettige ontginning van mariene hulpbronne.

“Tydens die operasie is twee verdagte voertuie onderskep en deursoek. ‘n Beduidende hoeveelheid duiktoerusting is ontdek, wat dui op voorbereidings vir onwettige perlemoen stropery binne die beskermde gebied.

“Die 12 verdagtes, wat op pad was na die Kaappunt-gedeelte van TMNP, is gearresteer en is na die Simonstad-polisiestasie geneem vir aanhouding. Alle duiktoerusting is gekonfiskeer.

“Hierdie operasie, wat effektief verhoed dat ‘n gekoördineerde groep ‘n nasionale park binnegaan om onwettige stropery uit te voer, word as ‘n groot sukses beskou. Die arrestasies beklemtoon voortgesette pogings deur wetstoepassingsowerhede om omgewingsmisdaad te bestry en Suid-Afrika se mariene hulpbronne te beskerm,” het SANParke gesê.

Poachers dive into SANParks’ net

CRIME SCENE: Cape Point: Twelve suspected abalone poachers are behind bars following swift action by the South African National Parks (SANParks) Environmental Crime Investigation (ECI) unit.

An intelligence-driven enforcement operation was carried out on the evening of Tuesday, 9 June 2026 by the ECI in the Cape Point section of Table Mountain National Park (TMNP).

According to a SANParks statement the operation formed part of an ongoing major investigation into illegal marine resource exploitation.

“During the operation, two suspicious vehicles were intercepted and searched. A significant quantity of diving equipment was discovered, indicating preparations for illegal abalone harvesting within the protected area.

“The 12 suspects, who were en route to the Cape Point section of TMNP, were arrested and detained at Simon’s Town police station. All diving equipment was seized.

“This operation is regarded as a major success, effectively preventing a coordinated group from entering a national park to carry out illegal poaching. The arrests highlight ongoing efforts by law enforcement authorities to combat environmental crime and protect South Africa’s marine resources,” said SANParks.

MISDAADTONEEL: Ocean View, Kaapstad: Die Suid-Afrikaanse Polisiediens (SAPD) het ‘n klomp koper en dagga by ‘n perseel in Ocean View gekonfiskeer.

Volgens die polisie het lede van Operasie Lockdown 3 Dinsdagaand, 10 Junie 2026, ‘n intelligensie-gedrewe operasie by ‘n perseel in Riverside-weg, Ocean View, uitgevoer op soek na dwelms.

Tydens die deursoeking het hulle 36kg koper en ‘n groot pak dagga en 38 klein pakkies dagga gevind.

‘n 54-jarige man is gearresteer vir die besit van dagga en vermoedelike gesteelde eiendom en moet Vrydag, 12 Junie 2026, in die Simonstad-landdroshof verskyn.

Bishop Lavis: In ‘n onverwante saak het lede van die anti-bende-eenheid wat in Bishop Lavis ontplooi is, voetpatrollies in die 7de Laan plakkerskamp uitgevoer toe hulle ‘n groen plastieksak in ‘n elektriese boks vind. Nadat die lede die plastieksak deursoek het, het hulle ‘n 9mm-pistool met 15 rondtes ammunisie gevind. ‘n Ondersoek na die oorsprong van die vuurwapen is van stapel gestuur.


Metal, dagga and firearm recovered

Success for Operation Lockdown

CRIME SCENE: Ocean View, Cape Town: The South African Police Service (SAPS) have recovered copper, brass and dagga at a premises in Ocean View.

According to the police, members of Operation Lockdown 3, conducted an intelligence driven operation at a premises in Riverside Road, Ocean View on Tuesday night, 10 June 2026, searching for drugs.

During the search they found 31kg of copper wire and fittings, 5kg of brass fittings and wire as well as a parcel dagga and 38 small packets dagga.

A 54-year-old man was arrested for the possession of dagga and presumed stolen property and is due to appear in the Simon’s Town Magistrates’ court on Friday, 12 June 2026.

Bishop Lavis: In an unrelated matter members of the Anti-Gang Unit deployed in Bishop Lavis area were conducting foot patrols in 7th Avenue informal settlement, when they found a green plastic bag hidden in an electrical box. Upon searching the plastic bag, the members found a 9mm pistol with 15 rounds of ammunition. An investigation into the origin of the firearm armed was launched.

MISDAADTONEEL: Swellendam, Suid-Kaap: Personeel van die munisipaliteit hier het Woensdag, 10 Junie 2026 ‘n gru-ontdekking gemaak toe hulle op die liggaam van ‘n pasgebore baba, versteek in ‘n swart vullissak, afgekom het.

Anneleen Vorster, die Munisipale Bestuurder, het in ‘n mediaverklaring gesê ‘n vullisverwyderingspan het die baba-lykie ontdek terwyl hulle besig was met roetinepligte in Sneuvlokkiestraat, Railton.

“Al die nodige prosesse om die omstandighede rakende hierdie tragiese voorval te bepaal, se gevolg word. Die nodige berading is vir die vullisverwyderingspan gereël na afloop vann hierdie traumatiese voorval.

“Die munisipaliteit deel ons innige simpatie met inwoners, veral die mense in die onmiddellike naburige omgewing. Ons moedig inwoners aan om gebruik te maak van enige beskikbare trauma-ondersteuning gedurende hierdie moeilike tyd,” het Vorster gesê.

Volgens adjudant-offisier Christopher Spies, ‘n media skakelbeampte vir die Suid-Kaap-polisie, is ‘n dossier vir die verberging van geboorte geopen nadat die liggaam van ‘n baba agter ‘n vullis-trok ontdek is.

“Swellendam-polisielede is omstreeks 12:50 na die toneel ontbied . Met hul aankoms het die trok bestuurder die lede na ‘n sak verwys waarin die liggaam tussen vullis gevind is. Die baba is deur paramedici op die toneel dood verklaar,” het Spies gesê.

Refuse removal team make shocking discovery

Newborn found dead in garbage

CRIME SCENE: Swellendam, Southern Cape: Refuse removal staff of the Swellendam municipality made a shocking discovery on Wednesday, 10 June 2026 when they found the body of a newborn baby hidden in a black refuse bag.

Anneleen Vorster, the Municipal Manager for Swellendam Municipality, said in a media release the refuse removal team discovered the infant while on routine duties in Sneeuvlokkie Street, Railton.

“Due process will follow to determine the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident. The necessary counselling has been arranged for the refuse removal team.

“The municipality convey its sympathy with residents and especially the immediate surrounding community members. We urge residents to make use of available trauma support services during this difficult time,” said Vorster.

According to Warrant Officer Christopher Spies, a media liaison officer for the Southern Cape police, a concealment of birth docket was opened after the body of an infant was discovered at the back of a garbage truck.

“Swellendam police members were summoned to the scene at about 12:50 on 10 June 2026. On arrival the truck driver directed the members to a garbage bag where the body was found among debris. The infant was declared dead by paramedics on scene,” said Spies
