The City of Cape Town is seeking the help of the public to identify the man in this picture, who may be able to provide information regarding damage to CCTV infrastructure that occurred during protest action in Ocean View.
Kommetjie Road, between Masiphumelele and Ocean View, was closed on Thursday evening, 11 June 2026, after protesters started burning tyres and littering the road with crates and rocks.
It was reported that the protest action followed the demolition of illegally built structures next to Ocean View.
A video was circulated on social media on Friday, 12 June 2026 showing someone climbing a pole and smashing the CCTV cameras. The inset of the picture is a still taken from the video.

Protesters close road to Ocean View
Motorists have been warned to steer clear of Kommetjie Road, between Masiphumelele and Ocean View because of protest action.
The road was closed earlier on Thursday evening, 11 June 2026, after protesters started burning tyres and littering the road with crates and rocks. Flames and smoke could be seen hundreds of metres away. The Masiphumelele-Ocean View-Kommetjie police forum issued a notice warning motorists to use alternative routes. There is no access into Ocean View until further notice, it said.
