2 arrested as they try to flee in stolen car

CRIME SCENE: Mitchells Plain, Cape Town: The Flying Squad have arrested two alleged hijackers and confiscated an illegal gun. 

According to the South African Police Service (SAPS) members of the Flying Squad were busy patrolling in Bravo Street, Beacon Valley industrial area at around 17:00 when they spotted a white Kia motor vehicle without registration plates.

“The driver attempted to flee, but he was stopped in his tracks. During a search of the vehicle, a .38 Special revolver without a serial number and four rounds of ammunition were recovered. 

“Further investigation revealed that the vehicle had been reported stolen in Parow. Two, aged 25 and 27-years, were arrested for possession of a hijacked vehicle, a prohibited firearm and ammunition,” said SAPS.

Die skietery volg op ‘n drie-dubbele moord wat Sondag 23 Augustus 2026 omstreeks 21:10 in ‘n huis ook in Klipfontein-weg, Silvertown, plaasgevind het.

Volgens die Suid-Afrikaanse Polisiediens (SAPD) ondersoek speurders van die Anti-bende-eenheid die omstandighede rondom die skietvoorvalle.

Lede van die Athlone SAPD het Sondagaand, 23 Augustus ‘n klag ontvang van ‘n skieterty by ‘n huis in Klipfontein-weg.

“Met hul aankoms het hulle die liggame van twee mans van 19 en 36-jaar-oud langs mekaar in die kombuis, met veelvuldige skietwonde, gevind. Hulle is op die toneel dood verklaar. ‘n Derde slagoffer van  22-jaar-oud is in die kop geskiet en na ‘n mediese fasiliteit geneem, waar hy later gesterf het.

“Athlone-polisie het drie aanklagte van moord geregistreer,” het die SAPD gesê.

Happy Valley: Maandag-oggend 24 Augustus 2026 om 01:45 het Mfuleni SAPD gereageer op ‘n skietvoorval in Marshall Crescent, Happy Valley.

“Met hul aankoms is die liggame van ‘n vrou en twee mans van tussen 20 en 25-jaar-oud in ‘n hok gevind met veelvuldige skietwonde. Al drie slagoffers is deur paramedici op die toneel dood verklaar.

“Daar word geglo die voorvalle is bendeverwant en die verdagtes moet nog gearresteer word,” het die SAPD gesê.

CRIME SCENE: Athlone, Cape Town: Two people were shot and killed in Klipfontein Road, Silvertown on Monday morning, 24 August, 2026.

The shooting followed a triple murder which happened on Sunday, 23 August 2026, at about 21:10 inside a house on Lower Klipfontein Road, Silvertown.

According to the South African Police Service (SAPS) Anti-Gang-Unit detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting incidents.

Athlone SAPS members received a complaint of the shooting incident at a premises in Lower Klipfontein Road.

“Upon arrival, they found the bodies of two males aged 19 and 36-years lying next to each other in the kitchen, with multiple gunshot wounds to their upper bodies. They were declared dead at the scene. A third victim, aged 22-years, was shot in the head and taken to a nearby medical facility, where he later died.

“Athlone police registered three counts of murder,” said SAPS.

Happy Valley: On Monday morning, 24 August 2026, at 01:45, Mfuleni SAPS members responded to a shooting incident in Marshall Crescent, Happy Valley. 

“Upon arrival the bodies of a woman and two men  aged between 20 and 25-years, were found in a shack with multiple gunshot wounds. All three victims were declared deceased at the scene by paramedics. 

“The incidents are believed to be gang-related, and the suspects are yet to be arrested,” said SAPS.

Die Mitchell’s Plain-polisie het twee aanklagte van moord en een van poging tot moord geopen ná die aanval Vrydagaand, 21 Augustus 2026, omstreeks 20:28.

“Polisielede het reageer op ‘n klag van ‘n skietery en met hul aankoms op die toneel in Venice Close, Portlands, het hulle die slagoffers met skietwonde aan hul liggame gevind. Twee mans van 27 en 35-jaar-oud is op die toneel dood verklaar en ‘n 24-jarige man is gewond. Hy is na ‘n mediese fasiliteit vervoer vir behandeling.

“Die motief vir die aanval is vermoedelik bende-verwant. Die verdagte(s) het van die toneel gevlug en is nog nie igearresteer nie,” het Twigg gesê.

CRIME SCENE: Mitchells Plain, Cape Town: Two people have been shot and killed and a third wounded in a suspected gang related incident.

Sergeant Wesley Twigg, a media liaison officer for the Western Cape police, said 

Mitchell’s Plain police registered two counts of murder and one of attempted murder following the attack on Friday night, 21 August 2026, at about 20:28.

“Police members responded to a complaint of a shooting and upon arrival on the scene in Venice Close, Portland,  they found the victims with gunshot wounds to their bodies.

“Two males aged 27 and 35-years were fatally wounded and a 24-year-old male was wounded. He was transported to a medical facility for treatment. 

“The motive for the attack is believed to be gang related. The suspect/s fled the scene and are yet to be arrested,” said Twigg.

MISDAADTONEEL: Eldorado Park, Gauteng: ‘n Ontvoerde slagoffer is veilig tuis nadat die polisie hom gered en sy aanvallers gearresteer het.

Die Suid-Afrikaanse Polisiediens (SAPD) in Eldorado Park het inligting ontvang oor ‘n 32-jarige man wat op 20 Augustus 2026 in Jeppe ontvoer is.

Volgens die SAPD het die verdagtes na bewering ‘n losprys vir sy vrylating geëis.

“Inligting is geoperasionaliseer en die verdagtes se voertuig is later by die Freedom Park informele nerdersetting opgemerk. Die polisie het die voertuig genader, en al drie verdagtes, tussen 32 en 39-jaar-oud gearresteer.

“Die slagoffer is ongedeerd gevind. Twee 9 mm-vuurwapens is teruggevind en sal aan ballistiese toetse onderwerp word om verbindtenis met ander misdade te bepaal,” het die SAPD gesê.

Voorlopige ondersoeke het aan die lig gebring dat die verdagtes van die George Goch-koshuis in Jeppe afkomstig was.


Suspects demand ransom, arrested

Police rescue kidnap victim

CRIME SCENE: Eldorado Park, Gauteng: A kidnapped victim is safe at home after police rescued him and arrested his attackers.

The South African Police Service (SAPS) in Eldorado Park received information about a 32-year-old man who was kidnapped at Jeppe on 20 August 2026. 

According to SAPS the suspects allegedly demanded a ransom for his release.

“Information received was operationalised. The vehicle matching the description of the suspects, aged between 32 and 39-years, was later spotted at the Freedom Park informational settlement. The police swiftly approached the vehicle, and all three suspects were apprehended. 

“The victim was rescued unharmed. Two 9mm firearms were recovered and will be subjected to ballistic testing to determine linkages to other crimes committed,” said SAPS.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects were from George Goch hostel in Jeppe. Police investigations are continuing.

Volgens konstabel Ndakhe Gwala, ‘n skakelbeampte vir die Wes-Kaapse polisie, het die Mitchells Plain-polisie ‘n saak van poging tot moord aanhangig gemaak ná die skietery wat Donderdag, 20 Augustus 2026 omstreeks 20:45 in Atletiek-straat, Beacon Valley, plaasgevind het.

“Volgens berigte is die seun deur drie onbekende verdagtes geskiet terwyl hy op pad huis toe was. Hy het skietwonde aan die agterkant van sy kop, regter arm en boude opgedoen. Die motief vir die aanval word ondersoek, en geen arrestasies is in hierdie stadium gemaak nie,” het Gwala gesê.

MISDAADTONEEL: Knysna, Suid-Kaap: Twee mans is brutaal doodgeskiet ‘n dag nadat ‘n voormalige burgemeester van Knysna ook in ‘n koeëlreën in die gebied gesterf het.

Wes-Kaapse speurders vir ernstige geweldsmisdaad (SVC) het ‘n klopjag van stapel gestuur na die moordenaars in die jongste skietvoorval Donderdagaand 20 Augustus 2026.

Volgens ‘n Wes-Kaapse polisiewoordvoerder, Brigadier Novela Potelwa, was die twee oorledenes, 47 en 48 jaar oud, in ‘n voertuig in Bongani toe hulle omstreeks 21:00 deur gewapende mans aangeval is.

Die provinsiale speurspan vir ernstige geweldsmisdade wat Woensdagaand, 19 Augustus 2026 se moord op die voormalige burgemeester en wyksraadslid, Aubrey Tsengwa (48), ondersoek, is sedertdien versterk.

Potelwa het gesê bykomende SVC-speurders is in die gebied ontplooi om die skietvoorvalle te ondersoek.

“Die motief vir beide voorvalle word ondersoe,” het Potelwa gesê.

Court withdraws charges against top police officers

Cops confident of taking down syndicates

NATIONAL: The South African Police Service (SAPS) says it remains resolute in taking down highly organised criminal networks and bringing serious and violent criminals to justice.

This follows the withdrawal of fraud and corruption charges against Lieutenant General Dumisani Khumalo and six others in a matter before the Pretoria Magistrates’ Court.

The Acting National Commissioner of the South African Police Service (SAPS), Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane, welcomed the withdrawal of the charges and said SAPS was confident that the withdrawal of the charges will allow the senior officers to refocus fully on their mandate of preventing and combating crime.

“As Divisional Commissioner of Crime Intelligence and Project Manager of the Political Killings Task Team (PKTT), Lieutenant General Khumalo will continue to focus on strengthening intelligence-driven operations, dismantling highly organised criminal networks, disrupting criminal syndicates and ensuring that actionable intelligence supports targeted police operations,” said Dimpane.
