FROM THE COURTS: Two men who stole from the same retail store in Upington in separate incidents have been sentenced to time behind bars.

In April 2026, 23-year-old Ashley Mataba stole several items valued at R517. He was subsequently convicted of theft by the Upington Magistrates’ Court and sentenced to 30 months’ imprisonment.

In May 2026, 28-year-old Michael Bloem stole items valued at R534 from the same store. He was convicted of theft by the same court and sentenced to three years’ imprisonment.

The Acting District Commissioner of the ZF Mgcawu District, Brigadier Peet Coetzee, commended the investigating officer, Detective Sergeant Harold Booysen, for his meticulous investigation, which contributed to the successful prosecution and convictions of both accused.
