Suspect allegedly hid weapon under mattress in bedroom

Man nabbed for homemade rifle

CRIME SCENE: Kalkfontein, Cape Town: The South African Police Service (SAPS) have arrested a man who allegedly hid a homemade rifle under a mattress.

According to SAPS Kuilsriver police followed up on information about a firearm at premises in Vereenigde Street, Kalkfontein, on Wednesday evening, 7 October 2026.

“The members searched the premises and found a homemade rifle with one round of ammunition hidden under a mattress in the bedroom. They arrested an adult male for possession of a homemade firearm and illegal possession of ammunition.”

In an unrelated matter on Thursday, 8 October 2026, members of Operation Prosper conducted an intelligence-driven operation in Algoa Court, Hanover Park, where they apprehended an adult male who was found in possession of a .38 Special revolver with 16 rounds of ammunition. 

They also arrested two adult males who are wanted for attempted murder, which occurred in December 2025 in Hanover Park.

In Charlesville het ‘n intelligensie-gedrewe operasie deur die anti-bende-eenheid gelei tot die vonds van ‘n 9mm-pistool met 26 patrone wat onder ‘n Toyota Hilux in ‘n erf versteek was. ‘n 30-jarige man is gearresteer.

MISDAADTONEEL: Cafda Village, Kaapstad: ’n Man en ’n vrou is koelbloedig doodgeskiet in die jongste sinnelose voorval van geweld in Kaapstad.

Die jongste voorval het Vrydagoggend, 9 Oktober 2026, omstreeks 09:30 in Ensor-straat, Cafda Village, plaasgevind, volgens die Suid-Afrikaanse Polisiediens (SAPD).

Wesley Twigg, ’n woordvoerder vir die Wes-Kaapse polisie, sê Steenberg-polisie het op die skietery gereageer nadat hulle ’n klagte oor vuurwapen skote ontvang het.

“Toe hulle by die toneel aankom, het hulle ’n 30-jarige man en 46-jarige vrou met skietwonde aangetref. Albei slagoffers is op die toneel deur mediese personeel dood verklaar.

“Die omstandighede rondom die voorval word ondersoek en geen arrestasies is nog gemaak nie. Steenberg-speurders ondersoek twee aanklagte van moord,” het Twigg gesê.

Second fatal shooting to hit area in 24 hours

CRIME SCENE: Cafda VIllage, Cape Town: A man and a woman have been shot dead in cold blood in the latest senseless shooting to rock Cape Town.

The latest incident happened in Ensor Street, Cafda Village at about 09:30 on Friday morning, 9 October 2026, according to the South African Police Service (SAPS).

Wesley Twigg, a Western Cape police media liaison officer, said Steenberg police responded to the shooting following a complaint of gunshots.

“When they arrived at the scene they found a 30-year-old man and a 46-year-old woman with gunshot wounds. Both victims were declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel. 

“The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation and no arrests have been made yet. Steenberg detectives are investigating two counts of murder,” said Twigg.

The incident follows close on the heels of another shooting which occurred not far from Ensor Street, in which a young man was shot and killed in Blagden street on Thursday, 8 October 2026. (Also read: Man shot dead near hospital – Crime Scene Report )


3 suspects arrested after 2 vehicles searched in Hout Bay

Hawks seize drugs worth R10m

CRIME SCENE: Hout Bay, Cape Town: Three suspects, aged between 41 and 60-years were arrested on Thursday, 8 October 2026 by the Hawks’ South African Narcotics Enforcement Bureau (SANEB) team following a drug bust worth over R10 million.

Warrant Officer Zinzi Hani, a Hawk spokesperson, said the arrests emanated from an intelligence driven operation that resulted in two vehicles being stopped and searched.

“During the stop and search 172 000 mandrax tablets, hidden in a false compartment, were seized.

“The suspects are due to make their first  appearance at the Wynberg Magistrates Court on Monday, 12 October 2026,” Hani.

CRIME SCENE: Cape Town City Centre: The City’s Metro Police this week arrested suspects who allegedly scammed  visitors and tourists.

JP Smith, the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, said the K9 Unit responded  to reports on Wednesday, 7 October 2026 of suspects operating in the Cape Town CBD.

“Officers located their vehicle in Queen Victoria Street, but the suspects attempted to evade police, colliding with several vehicles in their attempt to get away.

“Two passengers then jumped from the moving vehicle and a foot chase ensued. All three suspects were, however, caught and arrested.

“Inside the vehicle, officers seized security-branded caps and equipment believed to be used in ATM/card cloning. The suspects were arrested and charged,” said Smith.

WESTERN CAPE: Various police units intensified their fight against illegal firearms this week, with multiple successful operations leading to arrests and the recovery of several weapons and ammunition.

In Mitchells Plain, members of the Crime Prevention Unit were patrolling Polo Street, Beacon Valley on Wednesday, 7 October 2026, when they heard gunshots. Officers pursued a speeding Toyota Yaris, and after a chase, apprehended two suspects who fled on foot. Three 9mm pistols with ammunition were seized. The two men face charges of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

In Villiersdorp, swift police action, also on 7 October, targeted suspects allegedly extorting spaza shop owners. Officers intercepted a Suzuki Swift linked to the group and discovered a 9mm pistol with 15 rounds and a Star .45 calibre firearm with 14 rounds inside the vehicle. Four suspects, aged between 21 and 39, were arrested and are due to appear in the Caledon Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 9 October 2026.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday 6 October in Military Heights, Seawind, Anti‑Gang Unit members on foot patrol received information about a suspect carrying a toiletry bag with a firearm. The suspect fled, discarding the bag, which was recovered with a firearm and 30 rounds of ammunition. An investigation into the weapon’s origin is underway.

Also on 6 October, in Charlesville, an intelligence‑driven Anti‑Gang Unit operation led to the discovery of a 9mm pistol with 26 rounds hidden under a Toyota Hilux in a yard. A 30‑year‑old man was arrested .

Police say these coordinated operations underscore their commitment to removing illegal firearms from communities and curbing gang‑related violence across the province.
