Cops arrest CBD scammers
CRIME SCENE: Cape Town City Centre: The City’s Metro Police this week arrested suspects who allegedly scammed visitors and tourists.

JP Smith, the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, said the K9 Unit responded to reports on Wednesday, 7 October 2026 of suspects operating in the Cape Town CBD.
“Officers located their vehicle in Queen Victoria Street, but the suspects attempted to evade police, colliding with several vehicles in their attempt to get away.
“Two passengers then jumped from the moving vehicle and a foot chase ensued. All three suspects were, however, caught and arrested.
“Inside the vehicle, officers seized security-branded caps and equipment believed to be used in ATM/card cloning. The suspects were arrested and charged,” said Smith.
