Man (71) arrested for selling replica arms

Elderly nabbed for gun crimes

NATIONAL: The South African Police Service (SAPS) arrested an elderly man for allegedly modifying and selling replica firearms.

According to SAPS, the eThekwini District Tracing Unit, conducted an operation in Cato Manor after receiving information about the suspect.

It was further alleged he was selling the modified firearms and ammunition to foreign nationals.

During the operation, police recovered the following: three 9mm pistols, two homemade shotguns, 11 barrels and eight pistol slides. Other items recovered were magazines, ammunition, empty cartridges, a welding machine, a drilling machine and a grinder.

A 71-year-old suspect was arrested and charged with possession of unlicensed firearms, said SAPS.
