Teen dies in Atlantis shooting
CRIME SCENE: Atlantis, Cape Town: Three people were shot, on fatally, when gunmen opened fire in Witsand on Wednesday night, 29 Juily 2026.
According to a media liaison officer for the Western Cape police, Sergeant Wesley Twigg, the police responded to a shooting incident in Thambo Street, Witsand, Atlantis at about 19:55.
“When the members arrived on the scene they found the victims with gunshot wounds to their bodies. A 19-year-old male was declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel, while the other victims, aged 21 and 27-years, were transported to a medical facility for treatment.
“The suspects fled the scene and the motive for the attack is yet to be determined. Atlantis detectives are investigation murder and attempted murder cases,” said Twigg.

The South African National Civic Organisation (Sanco) in Witsand, Atlantis has strongly condemned the killing of a business owner and the shooting of another business owner, allegedly by extortionists.
Sanco’s JS Masakala branch said it was deeply shocked and saddened by the shooting of Peter Davidson and the other business owner.
Davidson was shot and killed on Friday night, 3 July 2026 while closing his shop in Chris Hani Street, Witsand at around 21:00.
According to Sanco Davidson had been receiving threats from people claiming to be “protectors” but refused to give in to their demands to pay protection fees. These threats were repeatedly reported to the authorities and criminal cases were opened.
“As community leaders we requested that these mattes be treated as urgent due to the risk posed to the lives of business owners and residents.
“Mr Davidson was a respected member of the Luphulo Business Forum. He was a dedicated, humble and humble and hardworking individual who made a meaningful contribution to the development of the community.
“His tragic death is not only a only a loss to his family, but the entire Witsand community. We call on the South African Police Service (SAPS) to prioritise this investigation and ensure that those responsible are arrested without delay.
“SAPS need to intensify efforts to dismantle extortion networks operating within our communities. Residents and business owners deserve to live and work without fear of intimidation, violence and murder,” said Sanco.
According to Sergeant Wesley Twigg, a media liaison officer for the Western Cape police, the 53-year-old Davidson sustained one gunshot wound and was declared dead at the hospital.
Atlantis police are investigating a murder case.
