Stepdad arrested for guesome murder

Boy (4) found brutally murdered

CRIME SCENE: Malebogo, Free State: A four-year-old boy has been found brutally murdered at Old Cemetery, Malebogo on Monday 10, August 2026.

Malebgo is a township area next to Hertzogville near Welkom in the Free State.

The boy’s 24-year-old stepfather has in the meantime been arrested and will make his first appearance in Hertzogville Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 11 August 2026 on a charge of murder.

According to the South African Police Service (SAPS) the Hertzogville police attended to the crime scene at Old Cemetery on 10 August 2026, where the body of the child with severe injuries to the head was found wrapped in blankets and curtains. 

Local Criminal Record Center experts based in Welkom were summoned to process the scene.

A case docket of murder was opened at Hertzogville police station, and a preliminary investigation started. 

The police visited the boy’s home in Malebogo where they found bloodstained parts of the blankets and curtains, as well as clothing that is presumed to belong to the child.

Vrou (55) met klomp dwelms gevang

MISDAADTONEEL: Mitchells Plain, Kaapstad: ‘n 55-jarige vrou van Tafelsig is gearresteer vir die besit van dwelms ter waarde van meer as R800 000.

Radio 786 berig die vrou van Mitchells Plain is gearresteer nadat die polisie inligting ontvang het rakende dwelms wat by ‘n huis in Winterhoek-straat, Tafelsig, verkoop word.

Hulle het die perseel Donderdagaand 6 Augustus deursoek en dwelms ter waarde van R882 000 gevind. Die voorraad het bestaan ​​uit 4.4 g Tik, 279 g rock kokaiïen, meer as 1 170 Mandrax-tablette en 4 000 Alprazolam-tablette.


Police in search of more suspects

CIT robbers shot dead

CRIME SCENE: Kranskop, KwaZulu-Natal: Three suspects who were wanted for various violent crimes in KwaZulu-Natal were shot and fatally wounded in a shootout with police in Kranskop in the early hours of Saturday morning, 8 August 2026.

Police acted on intelligence which uncovered the whereabouts of the suspects and when they approached a residence at Mambulu area, a shootout ensued between police and an unknown number of suspects. 

Three suspects were shot and fatally wounded during the shootout and they were found in possession of firearms. The suspects are linked to a CIT robbery which happened in the Kranskop CBD on 13 April 2026 where suspects also fired shots at a police station.

One of the suspects was injured during the explosion of the CIT vehicle and was found dead inside an abandoned vehicle in Nkandla a day after the CIT robbery.

A search is ongoing for more suspects who are believed to have evaded arrest and are armed.

Tip-off leads to alleged dealer in Tafelsig

Woman (55) nabbed for drugs

CRIME SCENE: Mitchells Plain, Cape Town: A 55-year-old woman from Tafelsig has been arrested for possession drugs worth over R800 000.

As reported on Radio 786, the Mitchells Plain woman was arrested after officers received a tip-off regarding drugs being sold at a house in Winterhoek Street, Tafelsig. 

They searched the premises on Thursday night, 6 August and discovered drugs worth R882 000. The stash consisted of 4.4g of Tik, 279g of rock cocaine, over 1 170 Mandrax Tablets and 4 000 Alprazolam tablets.

MISDAADTONEEL: Strand, Helderberg: Drie vermeende gewapende afpersers is in die Strand gearresteer.

Lede van die Suid-Afrikaanse Polisiediens (SAPD) se Operasie Lockdown 3 span Vrydag 7 Augustus 2026 het die verdagtes, tussen die ouderdomme van 22 en 24-jaar, gearresteer vir die besit van ‘n ongelisensieërde vuurwapen, besit van ‘n verbode vuurwapen en ammunisie .

Volgens die SAPD het die span inligting ontvang oor die mans wat in ‘n silwer Ford Focus ron ry en na bewering besighede in die Strand-gebied afpers.

“Hulle het die voertuig omstreeks 21:30 in Xaki-straat, Strand, opgemerk. Een van die verdagtes het probeer om met ‘n plastieksak te vlug, maar hy is gevang met twee vuurwapens en 15 rondtes ammunisie.

“Die drie sal Dinsdag 11 Augustus 2026 in die Strand-landdroshof verskyn,” het die SAPD gesê.


Police catch armed suspects while driving around

3 alleged extortionists behind bars

CRIME SCENE: Strand, Helderberg: Three alleged armed extortionists have been arrested in the strand. 

Members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) Operation Lockdown 3 arrested the suspects, between the ages of 22 and 24-years, for possession of an unlicensed firearm, possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition on Friday 7 August 2026.

According to SAPS the team received information about the men driving around in a silver Ford Focus, allegedly extorting businesses in the Strand area.

“They spotted the vehicle at Xaki Street, Strand at about 21:30. One of the suspects attempted to flee with a plastic bag but he was apprehended and two firearms were recovered along with 15 rounds of ammunition. 

“The three will appear in the Strand Magistrate’s court on Tuesday, 11 August 2026,” SAPS said.

Namakwa cops nab alleged dealers

CRIME SCENE: Namakwa District, Northern Cape: Two suspected drug dealers in their 40s have been arrested in two separate incidents

The South African Police Service (SAPS) in the Namakwa District said it continued to intensify its fight against drug-related crime through intelligence-driven operations aimed at dismantling local drug networks.

On Friday, 7 August 2026, members of the Namakwa District Task Team, supported by Namakwa Crime Intelligence, conducted two successful search-and-seizure operations in Leliefontein and Kharkams.

“During the early hours of the morning, police executed a search operation at the residence of a suspected drug dealer in Leliefontein, where drugs and cash were confiscated. A 43-year-old man was arrested on charges of dealing in drugs and is expected to appear in court soon,” said SAPS.

In a follow-up operation at approximately 6:40 in Kharkams, a search was executed at the premises of another suspected drug dealer. Police confiscated drugs and cash, which is believed to be the proceeds of illegal drug sales. 

“A 46-year-old male was arrested on charges of dealing in drugs and is expected to appear in the Springbok Magistrate’s Court soon,” said SAPS.

The District Commissioner of SAPS Namakwa, Brigadier Schalk Andrews, commended the members of the Namakwa District Task Team and Namakwa Crime Intelligence for “their professionalism, dedication, and relentless efforts in combating drug-related crime”.


Two men gunned down in broad daylight

Double murder in Kewtown

CRIME SCENE: Athlone, Cape Town: Two men were gunned down in broad daylight in Kewtown this morning.

The victims, aged 29 and 32-years, were shot and killed at Sage Crescent, Statice Heights, Athlone on Friday, 7 August at around 10:30. 

A Western Cape police media liaison officer, Thembakazi Mpendukana, said Athlone police opened two murder cases for further investigation.

“The motive for this incident is currently unknown, and no arrest has been made yet.

Konstabel Ndakhe Gwala, ‘n skakelbeampte vir die Wes-Kaapse polisie, sê die Mitchells Plain-polisie het omstreeks 4:20 op ‘n skietery in Ruwenzori-straat, Tafelsig, gereageer.

“Met hul aankoms het hulle op die liggaam van ‘n 42-jarige man met veelvuldige skietwonde aan die kop afgekom. Hy is op die toneel deur mediese personeel dood verklaar.

“Die polisie het ‘n saak van moord geopen en geen arrestasies is nog op hierdie stadium gemaak nie,” het Gwala gesê.

Man dies in hail of bullets

CRIME SCENE: Mitchells Plain, Cape Town: A man died in a hail of bullets early on Friday morning, 7 August 2026 in Tafelsig.

Constable Ndakhe Gwala, a media liaison officer for the Western Cape police, said Mitchells Plain police responded to reports of a shooting in Ruwenzori Street, Tafelsig at about 4:20 on Friday morning.

“On arrival they found a lifeless body of a 42-year-old male lying on the street with multiple gunshot wounds to the head. He was declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel.

“Police registered a case of murder for investigation and no arrest has been effected at this stage,” said Gwala.
