CATA chair shot at rank
CRIME SCENE: Nyanga, Cape Town: The chairperson of the Cape Amalgamated Taxi Association (CATA) was shot and wounded at the taxi rank here on Thursday morning, 5 November 2026.

This shooting came within hours of another shooting incident near the Wynberg taxi rank at about 5.20 on Thursday morning in which a man was killed and a woman wounded.
The Commander of the Western Cape police media centre, Lieutenant Colonel FC Van Wyk, said the 44-year-old victim of the Nyanga shooting sustained a gunshot wound to the right side of his upper body and was taken to a hospital by private vehicle.
Van Wyk said Nyanga police registered an attempted murder case.
“The motive for this attack is believed to be taxi related. However, this forms part of the ongoing investigation and the case will be transferred to the Provincial Taxi Violence Unit. No arrests have been made yet,” he said.
