Man tries to hide gun under mattress

Operation Lockdown nets 2 suspects

CRIME SCENE: Khayelitsha, Cape Town: A 48-year-old woman was arrested at around midnight on Thursday 21 May 2026 for illegal possession ammunition.

Operation Lockdown 3 members found the suspect in possession of 18 rounds of ammunition at Guquka Street, Town Two.

Phillipi: Members of Operation Lockdown 3 arrested a 39-year-old man in the Siqalo Informal Settlement in Phillipi for possession of an illegal firearm

The police received information and proceeded to the man’s informal house. They searched the place and discovered .38 Special revolver without a serial number and seven rounds of ammunition under the suspect’s mattress.

CRIME SCENE: Bonteheuwel, Cape Town: The police have removed another illegal firearm from Cape Town streets.

On Thursday, 16 April 2026 at about 23:15, Operation lockdown III police were busy patrolling the streets of Bonteheuwel when they spotted a man who started running when he saw the police vehicle.

While running he dropped something on the ground and ran into a yard in Juniper Street. Police followed him and recovered the dropped items which turned out to be a .38 Special revolver firearm with 27 rounds of .38 Specia ammunition and 28 rounds of 9mm ammunition. He was arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

Once charged he will appear in the Bishop Lavis Magistrate’s court.
