Violent convicts get life and 18-years in prison
Detective secures long jail terms
FROM THE COURTS: In just two days, a detective from Fraserburg police in the Northern Cape has secured two lengthy sentences in different cases.
On Tuesday, 15 September 2026 Detective Sergeant Ursula van Wyk secured an 18-year prison sentence for an attempted murder accused in the Fraserburg Regional Court
On Christmans day, 25 December 2025, the accused, More-Aine Andreas (27), was evicted from a residence by the complainant’s aunt.The accused demanded that the complainant, who is his life partner, leave the premises with him.
When she refused Andreas became violent and threw bricks at her, causing serious and life-threatening injuries.
He fled the scene and was arrested on 29 December 2025. He appeared in court the following day, was denied bail and remained in custody until the finalisation of the trial.
Detective van Wyk returned to the same court on Wednesday, 16 September 2026, where she secured a life sentence for a parolee convicted of attempted murder.
The 40-year-old Hendrik Blou, also known as “Platkop,” was sentenced to life imprisonment for an incident that occurred on 23 February 2024.
The victim, 24-year-old Dori-Ann Waterboer, ended her relationship with the accused, but as she walked away from him, Blou attacked and stabbed her repeatedly with a knife, causing her to lose consciousness.
Waterboer regained consciousness at Calvinia Hospital, where she received medical treatment for multiple stab wounds to her back, head, face and both eyes. She subsequently lost sight in her right eye.
The Northern Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Koliswa Otola, commended Van Wyk for her dedication, perseverance and meticulous investigative work.
“Detective Sergeant van Wyk’s determination to pursue these matters to their conclusion demonstrates the commitment of our detectives to securing justice for victims of violent crime,” said Otola.
These outcomes demonstrate the important role played by dedicated detectives in building strong cases and pursuing justice on behalf of victims and their families.
