“Of dit nou bendeverwant is of nie, genoeg is genoeg.

In a WhatsApp message to Belhar residents, local councillor Ashley Addinall, said once again the community had been shaken by violence.
“Whether gang-related or not, one thing remains clear: enough is enough. Our people are tired of living in fear. Our mothers are tired of crying. Our children are tired of growing up surrounded by violence, drugs and hopelessness.
“God did not create gangsters, drug addicts, thieves, or murderers. No child is born wanting to destroy lives or live on the streets. These are the painful results of a system that for decades has marginalized and neglected the people of the Cape Flats.
“We must start standing together as one community to fight for change. Our youth need jobs, mentorship, sporting programmes, educational opportunities, rehabilitation centres, skills development and positive role models.
“We cannot continue accepting violence as a normal part of life. Every shooting destroys families, traumatizes children and breaks communities apart.
“Silence and division will never solve our problems. Unity, action and community involvement will.
“The future of Belhar depends on all of us including those who are involve in drugs and gangsterism because they need to change their ways and stand with the community in order to heal our community,” said Addinall.
